  1. All so they can draft a kid underslot that they would've gotten later anyway, just so they can show everyone how smart they are. This could be a time spent gathering important information on the young guys on the fringe. Young hitters learning to adjust to major league pitching. Hell, use a few rotation slots to piggyback some young starters. Give them 4 innings each, not like they'd let them throw more than that anyway. Could be a creative way to lessen the load on the bullpen you don't have. The ones that show promise can be developed as starters. The ones that don't can drop their worst pitch and crank up the heater to reinvent themselves as an actual bullpen piece. But no, more important to improve your chances at the #1 pick by 2.3%
  2. Well, that was gross. Time for some Nascarball
  3. His feet hurt? Not being sarcastic or facetious, I'm sure it takes a lot of work just to keep the pain manageable. The idea of less ground to cover I'm sure had some appeal. Plus, it would minimize his biggest weakness (range) and accentuate his biggest strength (arm)
  4. But I didn't say anything about the draft lottery
  5. Gasper playing in stilts wouldn’t be the worst idea
  6. There's no way they actually think that. However, they do think we're dumb enough to believe it. If they actually reinvest the salary savings and retain the starters, then I'll eat as big a plate of crow as they can find. But there's nothing they've done since they were eliminated from the playoffs that tells me that they will
  7. Tanking for draft capital makes no sense in baseball's setup. The odds are too smoothed over from position to position, there are limitations on a long-term tank, and prospects even at the top have too much variance for it to be worthwhile. If Falvey truly gave away four years of Varland for whatever marginal one-time uptick in draft odds that would provide for 2026, then not only should he be fired, he should be imprisoned
  8. Peter man, the other team gets to hit too. That ain't a winning run I generally would rather not bunt in the top of the tenth (bottom is a different story). But with a nonfactor at the plate ... sure, lay one down And I'm not ready to complain about Funderburk being on the team as long as Erasmo Ramirez is on the team
  9. Especially for Vasquez, knowing that the Twins would've given him away for a can of beans if there was even one other team that wanted him
  10. One trade addition brought up. No pitchers, not even at the expense of Erasmo "I'm 35 and my ERA is approaching 7 at AAA" Ramirez So much for "adding players who can help now" (quoted directly from Falvey's love letter to the fans)
  11. Honestly, I think we'll get our answer by next spring. If the payroll savings are reinvested and Pablo/Ryan/Ober are retained, then Falvey really is spearheading this initiative. But if the savings are pocketed and at least two of the three are shipped off, then Twins fans better be ready to party like it's 1999
  12. I share that fear the more I think about it. If the rationale behind the sell-off was to prep the team for sale ... then why didn't they do it last year when they made the team available for sale? Also, Manfred recently said he was confident a sale will happen, and he can't approach a microphone without stepping on a rake (remember how we were going to hear all about the TV package replacement for ESPN at the all-star break?), so that certainly doesn't help my doubts in this area
  13. You think this letter went out without an ownership proofread? I'm the opposite. I think he wrote this with a Pohlad holding a gun to his head
  14. I know right? No respect these days For some reason, I can't find the word "bullpen" anywhere in the letter. Even used CTRL-F. Something must be wrong with my computer
  15. When the Duran trade was announced, I was a little underwhelmed by the return. It turned out to be my favorite trade they made. That's disconcerting
  16. Here's the email I - and I'm sure others here - received from Falvey today. I'm interested in everyone's thoughts. Dear Hambino, This week, we made a clear and deliberate decision to strengthen the next chapter of championship-caliber baseball for the Minnesota Twins. We didn’t make surface moves. We acted with purpose. That meant adding players who can help now, deepening our talent pipeline for 2026 and beyond, and reinforcing the foundation for long-term success. This wasn’t about patchwork or small adjustments. It was about holding ourselves to the standard we expect. The season so far hasn’t met that mark. We knew it was time to respond. We’ve bolstered our pitching. We added arms ready to contribute now, along with others on the cusp of breaking through. The rotation has gained depth, and the minor league system behind it has become even more robust, with emerging talent pushing the group forward. On the position player side, we brought in impact potential. Players with the tools to grow into everyday contributors and raise the overall ceiling of the roster. The foundation is getting stronger, and we believe the next wave is starting to take shape. We know moves like this spark reactions. That’s natural. It reflects how much you care. That’s why we’re positioning the Twins to compete at a higher level, not just in the short term, but in a way that can endure the ups and downs of a long season. That’s the kind of team you deserve. The mission hasn’t changed. We’re here to build a team that can win a World Series. This is the next push. Thank you for your support. It's your passion that drives us every day. Derek Falvey
  17. I was not a fan of the Outman acquisition. But if he has any value, it’s as short-term Buxton insurance in center. I read that he’s reporting to AAA. If they’re not going to use him now, then what was the point of picking him up?
  18. The feelings about today are about the returns in trade as much as the players going out the door. Stewart given away for nothing Varland moved while still pre-arb Jax and Duran (especially Jax) dealt for underwhelming returns given the leverage the Twins had in the reliever market Tagging France to the Varland trade, reducing the return in the process, all for a pittance of cash savings The acquisition of another 37 LH hitting outfielders that can't hit A tear down was justified. It could have easily happened without any of the above happening.
  19. I can't. I like dark humor and hate myself
  20. Has any team ever even done just the second part?
