  1. They all have the same floor we do- homeless tweaker meth-heads. Hopefully that's no more realistic for them than it is for us. Well, for me anyway. I don't know what other people have going on. Good luck to us all.
  2. I would rather have Polanco on the team than Nunez, and if Buxton shows he's ready I'd rather have Polanco than D Santana.
  3. So instead of another thread where we continually debate whether the glass is half-full or half-empty, here's one debating whether the glass is badly cracked or completely shattered. Knock yourselves out. For those who are planning to tell me "if you don't like it start your own thread", I would but lately they all seem to end up in the same place anyway, It's kind of like listening to Reusse except without the hilarious cackling. Extending Kurt Suzuki, Jason Bartlett, I suppose Mauer and Ortiz and the bullpen can only be a few posts away. If anyone out there has a baseball glove, lives in northern Illinois, and wants to play catch, I'm available. Have a great day.
  4. Somebody must be making quite a good living doing Tommy John surgeries in the Fort Myers area. I hope a lot of these guys make a full recovery.
  5. ?? Yeah, I would say that's true, if he's better than he looked last year. Not automatically. Ryan saying they think they can fix him suggests he needs to show some upside.
  6. If healthy, they'll be good. But they are old, and at least a few key pieces are going to miss significant parts of the season with injuries. That's what I said last year, and it's even more likely to be true this year.
  7. The part I liked best, out of a great set of questions and answers, was pitching inside. Nothing wrong with making a batter move their feet once in a while, and bad things are a lot more likely to happen if you don't do that. Can't wait to see him in the Bigs!
  8. Congratulations on your son! Wonderful times ahead. (Sleep much?) I think he has the chance to see some exciting baseball, even if he's stil a couple years away from understanding when the hit-and-run makes the most sense.
  9. Yeah, I watched Harmon play a lot of baseball. I don't care what he weighed, he (and many others) were a lot slower than Sano.
  10. Based on overall athleticism, I would rather have Sano in the outfield than Kyle Schwarber, and Joe Maddon seemed to think Schwarber was worth the risk. Schwarber had played 36 minor-league games in the outfield in 2014, none there in 2015 until he was called up by the Cubs. Two-thirds of his appearances, including all of his playoff games, were in the outfield. I didn't get any positional stats from Indiana, but I believe he was their full-time catcher. I think Sano will be a much better outfielder than what I've seen from Schwarber. Sure, he'd be better at third, but I don't think this is as crazy as some make it sound.
  11. Realistic expectations? No. Not very many players ever get to Sale's level. You shouldn't expect the top 6 players every year to get there.
  12. Man, without the invention of Tommy John surgery...yikes.
  13. Let's remember being selected isn't the same thing as being kept. Some selected guys are sent back, or the team works out a trade to keep them so they can send them down for a while. So if we lose someone today, it might only end up being a loan.
  14. How many baseball players have BEEN over 250 pounds (not counting pitchers and first basemen)? I bet there haven't been very many third basemen who played more than 100 games while over 250 pounds either, so this stat argues he shouldn't be there either.
  15. That's fair, but it's also fair to note that the team that snapped him up traded to get their old infielder back and is now looking to trade Danny away. He's definitely better than he was with the Twins, but his new nickname ought to be "Suitcase". And great article, by the way. Fascinating stuff.
  16. Don't teams video at-bats whether or not games are televised?
  17. Wait, Aaron Hicks is one of the most well-rounded players in the majors? Did they actually ever watch him hit against a right-handed pitcher???
  18. No, you can't send him down. The 90 day rule refers to days he has to be active; he can be on the DL if he's injured, but he can't be sent down.
  19. Hicks hasn't proven anything to me yet, except that some day he might be better than average. Counting on him as the CF starter next spring? What is it, fourth time's the charm?
  20. Yeah, true, but you can only play so many outfielders at once.
  21. And we also know that the Royals gave up Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and two pitchers. Seems like an awful lot in addition to Aaron Hicks, for two years of Greinke as the rest of our team was falling apart.
  22. If we don't trade someone and they decline, we should have sold high. If we do trade someone and they improve, we shouldn't have sold low. If only we could predict player career arcs with complete accuracy, then we wouldn't have this problem. I think the most likely expectation is that neither player becomes anything more than a useful piece, but we needed a catching piece. I will be happy if both players exceed expectations.
  23. Yeah, once we gave away JJ Hardy to make a spot, there was a spot for him.
  24. The Cleveland announcers were talking about Buxton being on first, and they said "he looks like he's about four strides from second base the way he runs."
