  1. No, you can't send him down. The 90 day rule refers to days he has to be active; he can be on the DL if he's injured, but he can't be sent down.
  2. Hicks hasn't proven anything to me yet, except that some day he might be better than average. Counting on him as the CF starter next spring? What is it, fourth time's the charm?
  3. Yeah, true, but you can only play so many outfielders at once.
  4. And we also know that the Royals gave up Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and two pitchers. Seems like an awful lot in addition to Aaron Hicks, for two years of Greinke as the rest of our team was falling apart.
  5. If we don't trade someone and they decline, we should have sold high. If we do trade someone and they improve, we shouldn't have sold low. If only we could predict player career arcs with complete accuracy, then we wouldn't have this problem. I think the most likely expectation is that neither player becomes anything more than a useful piece, but we needed a catching piece. I will be happy if both players exceed expectations.
  6. Yeah, once we gave away JJ Hardy to make a spot, there was a spot for him.
  7. The Cleveland announcers were talking about Buxton being on first, and they said "he looks like he's about four strides from second base the way he runs."
  8. I saw Santana come to the plate and my thought was "what, we're not even TRYING to win?"
  9. That might just be totally beyond something.
  10. So Hicks gets what, 7 plate appearances tonight? Hee hee. I love this.
  11. You know, I really like close, tight baseball games. But I really like knocking the other team's pitcher out in the second, too. In fact, I like it a lot. Yesterday we let the pitcher make it through the third, but that was Chris Sale so that's understandable.
  12. Man, I don't know what I want more- one of those Buckaroo suits, or a glitter-finish Telecaster. Getting both just seems like more than I can even dream about. Now I'm a-gonna go listen to "Streets of Bakersfield".
  13. OK, restarting the heart now. Big win.
  14. Well, he seems resigned to the Sox losing another one, especially with fielding errors in the 8th.
  15. Wow, then Bux scores on what was practically an infield popup. I live in Chicago and am forced to watch on TV. Hawk and Stone are drooling over Buxton.
  16. Not to complain, but how did Buxton not score on a deep single to right center? I expected him to cross the plate about two feet behind Suzuki.
  17. Here's the telecast: {Crack}...crowd roars...silence..."dadgummit"...sound of shuffling papers, door closing. Fade to commercial.
  18. I'm having a hard time working through my picks for September adds. The whole idea that we are actually trying to make the playoffs is throwing me off. What a nice change.
  19. I know there's a lot of muttering about Bowden as a AAAA pitcher, but I wonder if he'd be a good fit as a reliever. Seems to be a real arm there. Oswaldo was 0-3, but at least he didn't strike out. Let's imagine he hit 3 hard line drives. Average is now at .202.
  20. A lot of those players were picked up in trades when they were in the minors. I think we only drafted four or five of the position players and starters. We've been able to acquire some good young players over the years. Florimon's RBI the other night was his first as a Pirate. He's 2 for 19, 2 BBs, 10 K's. The Pirates might be able to turn him into a good starting pitcher, though, given their track record.
  21. I liked the Santana signing, but now I'm thinking he helped the team the most by getting suspended.
  22. And the washing machines have a 6-year waiting list.
  23. Good interviews, thanks. Good luck to both!
  24. I couldn't even watch the last NY game. Completely swore off the Twins. That lasted about 40 hours. Now I'm back. Now I'm posting during work again. I'll probably break into a house to steal something I can pawn so I can buy a Sano jersey before long. As I told my wife last week, for about the 500th time, it's just stupid how much of my life outlook depends on that most recent Twins score. "Hi, my name's Jeff, and I'm a twinsoholic." (crowd:) <Hi, Jeff>...
  25. Well, Eddie taketh away, but there he giveth. What a miserable fail of a half-inning. Very smart of Nunez to throw to first there, but of course once he dropped the sure thing grounder, what's the difference. Lots of fight from the Twins tonight. Not using Duensing...not having a bus full of guys thrown out on the bases...different story.
