  1. True on AJ, but we got an injured LH pitcher who did nothing whatsoever for Dougie. We basically traded him for an open roster spot.
  2. Alternatively, maybe we should see if Rosario is for real before we trade Dozier. But if we want to improve pitching, a trade would really help. If we trade Dozier, we are further committing to Mauer and a bunch of 24-25-yr-olds. I'm not so sure about that plan.
  3. Single-bid sealed envelope auctions are a complete crapshoot, especially when they happen infrequently and the quality of the good being auctioned varies dramatically. It would be pretty tough to fire someone for winning one, especially when it worked out the way it did. Submitting a bid that was one-third of the winning bid, which still turned out to be a bargain, would be a much better way to get fired, I would think.
  4. Who's playing first for the Twins if Parmalee and Colabello are both Red Wings? Are you assuming the Twins sign Morneau or another free agent? That doesn't seem likely to me, but it could happen.
  5. Aren't those upside-down???
  6. Let's see if Pelfrey gives the ump the hairy eyeball when he walks off the mound. They had quite a glare-fest going after that "ball" to the first batter.
  7. I think that was Top Gun questioning the leadership, not Berardino. That was way too long to be a Twitter post. It would be nice to get his and LaVelle's take on some of these issues- not every beat reporter plays nice all the time.
  8. My goal for the rest of the year is to play the AAA/AAAA guys as much as possible and figure out who stays and who goes. Clear spots on the 40-man for who needs promoting. Shine up Willy and Doom so you can put them in the display window at the winter meetings, and get whatever you can. Start preparing your glossy marketing brochures to send to every FA pitcher in the world. And think carefully about the coaching staff. I'm not a "change for change's sake" guy, but I'm not sure Gardy is the same manager he was 5 years ago and an upgrade is definitely possible. I think losing 90 3 yrs in a row can take it out of a manager just like it does a team and a fan base.
  9. Start a thread about Ryan and free agents, and respond to each post. Problem solved.
  10. 2013 is over. This is Spring Training 2014, Target Field Edition. And I'm enjoying it- let the kids play.
  11. Predictions for 2014: a healthy Oswaldo Arcia absolutely shatters Bobby Darwin's single-season Twins record for strikeouts. Maybe by August 15.
  12. We're playing this game so that we can all dream about Pinto this winter.
  13. This game is in hand. If the Twins try to steal a base the Angels will probably bean someone for thinking we're running up the score. And just imagine- 2 runs, with 0 hits with RISP! We Rule!
  14. To be fair, Nishi had to give back the money so he could be a star in Japan instead of a AA player... I think Ryan is far from infallible, but I'm not worried about losing this guy. We're already wondering what to do with Dozier/Rosario, and this prospect is going to be a 2B. If Ryan doesn't spend the money on pitching, I'm going to be extremely upset. So he's got that to worry about, which probably won't keep him up at night.
  15. ...so wait...you don't want the Twins to sign him, correct? I'm not sure what you really think about him
  16. I would too, but it might be hard for him to move there from long relief unless they are willing to let him come out after 3 innings. It might be better for him to have him come to spring training planning to compete for the rotation.
  17. Yeah, that's what guys think when they start divorce proceedings...
  18. Hey, Plouffe struck out looking. In further updates, the sun will set tonight. Grrrr....
  19. Neither one of them likely has much trade-in value at the moment, but you hate to just put them out at the curb. Just like you hate to have to rely on them.
  20. Yeah, I've been to some pretty lightly-attended games in Oakland, and agreed, it's still a good time. Houston just looks like a huge, empty tomb. A friend said one of his buddies went to an A's game back in the 80s that had something like 380 people in attendance. Almost no ushers, so most people went behind home plate. Other guys staked out their own entire section. His buddy ended up getting 17 foul balls that game.
  21. Yeah, I was thinking he probably meant show-off triples but I figured I'd leave it in his words.
  22. He's just a hunka hunka burnin' love...
  23. From the Strib: "Dozier has the most extra base hits in all of MLB since June 28, or at least he did as of gametime yesterday. Yes, more than Miguel Cabrera. More than anyone. He has 36 of them -- 10 homers, 24 doubles and two show-off doubles. He is slugging .502 in that span." I watch the game more closely when Dozier's coming up to bat. I almost expect something good to happen right now. It's a nice feeling. Imagine how much fun it must be for him.
  24. Even when Dozier wasn't hitting early this year, his fielding at second was very good. He doesn't make bad plays on the base paths. I always feel like he's trying. With Plouffe, there are too many times he just looks lost, at the plate, in the field, or even recently on the bases. I am not nearly as optimistic that he will turn into a valued part of this team, compared to Dozier.
  25. No, a bad dog. I will go lay by my dish and think about what I've done.
