  1. Yeah, and he wears a uni top that is quite a bit larger in the shoulders. He's a much stronger guy than when he was with the Twins. I remember when I talked to my mom- she was sad to hear we had traded Gomez, and asked if we got anything for him. I described Hardy pretty positively. She thought for a few seconds and then said "Did the Brewers ever watch Gomez?" I laughed pretty hard.
  2. Absolutely. Or a Dennis Eckersley wild-eyed fist pump. Let's see how he handles that. and the bullpen can have a kick line
  3. Yeah, two months ago. GoGo doesn't forget!
  4. Yeah, that's more or less exactly how I pictured him.
  5. No mirrors in your life, right?
  6. And you can cancel the postgame show! A wicked-hard nubber by Parms.
  7. At least it really was a home run, unlike last year when he ran around the bases after hitting a long foul. And the whiskey is Four Roses.
  8. Hit a home run. Then the fireworks started. You've got to watch the video- check the front page of mlb.com
  9. Watching Torii hit into a double play against the Twins is a good thing. I always enjoy it. Watching a Twin not strike out would be really good too. Carlos Gomez had a fun evening tonight, didn't he?
  10. KC has been an asset to the Twins this year. It's frightening to think about who might have filled his 31 starts. Walters or Hernandez, anyone? Yeah, he's not a #1 or #2, but he's been a solid major leaguer. We've certainly seen a lot worse.
  11. Yeah, that makes me wonder if all the other managers also wanted to fight that guy at some point, and gave Mint some cred for actually trying to do it.
  12. Any discord will be dismissed as coming from the nattering nabobs of negativism.
  13. I was thinking the same thing this morning, and I'll cast my imaginary vote for Dozier. That's despite reading the following from Berardino this morning: Twins with Mauer: 4.04 runs scored per game; without, 3.36 Twins with Mauer: 4.59 runs allowed per game; without, 5.49 Twins with Mauer: .445 winning %age; without, .356 Those are astonishing gaps for one player's difference.
  14. Two really good innings in a row for Pelfrey. After 4, his pitch count is at about 246. Quintana is only 100 behind him. I hope this game finishes before I have to get up to go to work at 7 am.
  15. Then it's the Game Night in Asia thread.
  16. Are you planning on replacing it with a picture of Dozier eating corn on the cob?
  17. Sometimes I think this should be called the "Game Night" thread instead of the Game thread. It's not a bad thing, I'm just a truth in advertising guy. Arcia's really got the swing going tonight. Not the hitting part, so far, but the swinging part is going well.
  18. Nice atbat by Dozier
  19. I predicted in a game thread last week that Arcia would absolutely destroy the Twins' single-season record for strikeouts some year soon. It's 145, by Bobby Darwin (closely challenged by Carlos Gomez, 142, and Willingham, 142 last year). He might break it in August. 145 is a pretty low total for an all-time team record, though. A dozen guys have already exceeded that this year alone, led by Chris Carter with 199 K's so far. Adam Dunn has been at 165 or higher for all 11 years he's played a full season. I'm with others, .280 with 20+ homers. I hope his strikeouts don't hit Dunn levels, though- that would make .280 a lot tougher. I haven't been very impressed with his defense so far. I hope he gets more comfortable out there. Evan Longoria has as many strikeouts now as Mark Reynolds (though with 150 more ABs). I could live with Arcia at Longoria's level!
  20. Nope, back at ya. Plouffe's "good 3 months" were quite a bit less than that, at least if you look at games played. He played 3 weeks in May, 2 weeks in June, and 2 weeks so far in Sept. So I'll take April, July, and August. That's 13 weeks. 7 good weeks out of 20 is pretty close to 1 out of 3, whether the unit is months or weeks. When he's hot, he's hot. And when he's not... April .217/.304/.377/.681 July .189/.223/.300/.523 August .196/.264/.330/.594 July and August are not a slump. They are a disaster.
  21. Clete Thomas is who he is; so are the starters. You can chew on the GM for having them on the team, or the manager for playing them, but Clete isn't going to hit 35 home runs. He's not going to throw guys out very often. Correia isn't going to put up an ERA of 2.75. You want Pelfrey to better than he's been for the last 7 years? Dream on. Why chew on them for being, in the words of Dennis Green, who we thought they were? Plouffe is a high pick, and someone who has shown stretches of being a Very Good Player. But he's just crazily erratic, an All-Star for a month and a AA call-up for a month. Who is he, really? We don't know. That's frustrating. He doesn't seem to perform too well in clutch situations at the plate. Home runs are nice, but getting them with runners on once in a while would be even nicer. Instead, we seem to see an awful lot of pop-ups and called third strikes in those situations. He always seemed like he ought to be a better hitter than that. It's frustrating. He also has played with what seems to be a lack of passion. Gardy say his lack of hitting is eating him up- fine, but as Riverbrian said, he could still get his uniform dirty once in a while. That's why I'm fed up with Plouffe. He coulda been a contendah. He's not a bum, not yet, but he's on his way. And a good September doesn't change that for me. He could still help this team with his bat, but it has to show up more than one month every three.
  22. Today's meaningless but fun fact: beginning Sept 1, Pinto has 7x as many RBI as Morneau.
  23. Josmil Pinto...yeah, I like the sound of that. His bat hitting the ball, I mean. Then the roar of the crowd. That sound.
