  1. Or, if he is part of the solution, maybe they hire a VP of baseball operations from outside to do all those assesments, and keep Antony on as GM.
  2. I don't claim to know if Antony is qualified or not. Personally, I'd like an outside hire simply because I want unbiased, objective eyes to evaluate every single position in the organization. Rob Antony is human, we all sometimes make irrational or biased assessments of people that we care about or have close and longstanding relationships with. Perhaps Rob is able to compartmentalize all that and still make objective assesments, I don't know. I can't help but think it would hard to fire people you know personally. Maybe Rob would make a great GM. I'd prefer he get that chance somewhere else.
  3. Probably from the same people that got us into this mess in the first place.
  4. I'm not disputing that. Just pointing out that it wouldn't block Kepler either way.
  5. Well plenty of people wanted to keep Hicks as a stop gap to give Buxton more time at AAA, though I won't argue there were some who wanted a Rosario, Buxton, Hicks OF. Regardless, Rosario needs a lot more time in AAA, so there would still be room for Kepler.
  6. Is Kennys Vargas in the witness protection program?
  7. Keeping Hicks was more about giving Buxton more time in AAA, so I'm not sure what that has to do with Rosario and Kepler. Also, in regards to Rosario, he's still swinging at everything, and having a good run of luck. Unless he learns how to take more than 1 walk per month, the bad Rosario is never going to be too far away.
  8. I'm still on the bus. I still fully expect Buxton to be a perennial all star. He's only 22 years old.
  9. It better be for the right reasons. If it is, I'm fine with it. If he's right back up as soon as there is an opening, then I really don't know what the heck they are doing with him. This needs to be the last time. Next time he comes up needs to be sink or swim time, imo.
  10. He gave up 11 baserunners. That's a pretty messy start. Combined 1 hitter for the DSL Twins, I think that's the right call.
  11. Yeah I'd say Gibson is probably a pretty good comp for him, actually.
  12. Fair to say Vielma is basically Pedro Florimon? Or is he truly an elite defensive SS, not just good like Florimon was?
  13. No. Sano is a good mlb player. Light is most likely Jim Hoey. Having him on the 40 man means he most likely gets a shot before guys who might be better than him, but aren't in the 40 man. I think D Mac was saying that we'd be better served, as a rebuilding team, by targeting an A ball prospect who doesn't need a 40 man roster spot.
  14. Is he likely to be a significant upgrade over the internal options we have at RH RP?Unless the the Twins see a specific mechanical flaw that they can correct, I don't think he is. Edit: Remember that Light is on the 40 man, so he's likely taking a roster spot from someone who is, at the least, equally as good.
  15. Why would Santana clear waivers? All we heard leading up to the deadline was how his contract has so much surplus value into the offseason, and that's why we should hold on to him. If that is true, wouldn't plenty of teams claim him?
  16. Great post. I agree with pretty much every word of this. If Santiago blocks May from getting another look in the rotation, then I think it makes the trade and instant loss, regardless of how Meyer turns out.
  17. I'm bummed to lose Meyer. I still think he ends up as a top of the rotation stater. But, Pohlad decided that likely wasnt going to be here when he mandated that Mollie come back next year. Molitor was never in a million years going to use Meyer. So, I guess I can't blame Antony, but I still hate to see him go.
  18. No, we are not down a pitcher. Nolasco and Abad left, replaced by Berrios and Santiago.
  19. You need a stronger arm from SS. The throw from deep SS is actually further than almost any throw a 3b has to make, plus the SS has to throw against their momentum a lot more often than a 3b.
  20. Hughes' career is in doubt. The precedent of returning after the surgery he had is mixed at best. That's not to say he can't be one of the guys who does make it back, but I think from a roster construction point of view, you assume he's never coming back, and adjust later if he does.
  21. It depends what the asking price is. Those guys are better, no doubt, but it also means they have a higher price. Someone might find Suzuki to be a better value. Herrmann and Butera had value, and that means almost any catcher has value. Nobody is picking up that option at that price, so trade him for what you can get, and bring him back next year if need be.
  22. What is this improved approach at the plate you speak of? The guy had 1 walk in 78 plate appearances since being called back up!! The only difference between Rosario post recall, vs. Rosario pre recall, is that his babip is 100 points above his norm. Guys that swing at everything simply cannot have sustained success at the plate. If he has value, I'd be all for trading him. If he doesn't, I would send him down to AAA, and I'd start from scratch and totally revamp his approach at the plate, even if that means he never gets it and never plays an mlb game for us again.
  23. No, Dozier has one of the weakest arms in all of baseball.
