  1. For the record, my post was one part tongue in cheek, one part bracing myself against hope until I actually see a new GM landing at MSP. It hurts less if you anticipate the punch before it lame lands.
  2. I'm genuinely surprised that there are 2 that are worse. Then again, of course, I don't follow the other teams as close.
  3. Harder than I thought it would be. I got 23. The only no brainer I missed was Jeter somehow. Congrats ichiro. Always been a favorite of mine.
  4. Yep, we actually have one of our prospects who come up from the minors and has thrived (offensively) from day 1, and people want to tear him down the first time he has a slump. I don't get it. The guy is already borderline elite offensively, and has 2 or 3 more full seasons before he even hits his prime.
  5. Ok, but then they should have just left him up and then started him in AAA to open 2017. If they think he only needs 3 more weeks to conquer AAA for good, then ok, makes sense. But if he needs more than 3 weeks in AAA to rebuild his swing, then calling him back up here for a month right in the middle of that is doing more harm than good.
  6. I'm still on the bus. I still fully expect Buxton to be a perennial all star. He's only 22 years old.
  7. Should have just kept him up then. He's not going to learn anything in 3 weeks. They don't have to bring him up when rosters expand. Can't they send him to the facilities in Ft Myers for some swing coaching once the Red Wings season is over?
  8. It better be for the right reasons. If it is, I'm fine with it. If he's right back up as soon as there is an opening, then I really don't know what the heck they are doing with him. This needs to be the last time. Next time he comes up needs to be sink or swim time, imo.
  9. It's going to be Antony. They hired the search firm to cover their butts from criticism. And, I hope to be wrong.
  10. Ok, I was fine either staying or going. But, now he needs to stay down until he is ready to come up for good, even if that means letting him struggle for 1000 consecutive PA's, regardless of the results. No more yo yo ing back and forth.
  11. You forgetting Santiago, or do you expect him to get moved?
  12. He gave up 11 baserunners. That's a pretty messy start. Combined 1 hitter for the DSL Twins, I think that's the right call.
  13. Yeah I'd say Gibson is probably a pretty good comp for him, actually.
  14. If Buxton is on the roster he needs to play everyday. If not, he needs to go to AAA. Does Mollie think we can still catch that second wildcard spot or something? Bizarre. 2018 and a new manager cannot get here soon enough.
  15. He can't. Apparently Joe's 10&5 rights apply to waiver claims as well as trades.
  16. I don't think that package would get a legit no.2 starter, at least not one on the right side of his prime. I think Chris Archer is probably a good example of a young legit no. 2 stater. There is no way that Tampa even considers that package. They'd likely want something like Berrios, Jay/Gonsalves, Polanco and a lotto ticket or two to start discussions.
  17. It's possible to be ready and still fail. Hitting MLB pitching is really hard. He could go down, he could stay up, I don't know. But, there is no guarantee that some magic number of AAA at bats is going to suddenly make him a good mlb hitter.
  18. Playing in the OF only helps his value if he does it well.
  19. There is no "could" about Chargois. He SHOULD be up, yesterday. Wasting his limited bullets in AAA at this point is absurd.
  20. They could keep Plouffe on rehab for another 5 or 6 days, that puts them inside the 20 day benchmark on 9/1.
  21. I don't think you'll use an option if the player is up when rosters expand. I could be wrong but I think they have to stay down 25+ days to burn an option.
  22. That didn't stop them from putting Nunez there.
  23. I'm patient enough to watch another bad year or two, so long as I feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So, I wouldn't advocate committing big money or prospects this winter. I would pick up 1 or 2 buy low, 1 year, make good type starters. Also, a GM from outside the organization gets us May in the rotation. That is a nice upgrade right off the bat, IMO.
  24. Using your numbers, 74% of qualified pitchers have an ERA under 4.50. On a 5 man rotation, The first 4 starters would be 80% of the rotation. So, it appears that 4.50 is almost exactly the cutoff from 4 to 5. So yeah, using his career numbers he's a bad 4 or good 5. But he's going the wrong way this year. His next start could put him over 5.00 ERA. Personally, I'd be looking to improve on a guy in the 4.50 to 5.00 ERA range.
  25. A comment, and for Brandon a question. In a vacuum, I suppose I'm ok with Santana as a true bench player. Personally, I'd still prefer an upgrade. Santana is a negative WAR player. I think that even bench players should at the least be WAR neutral, and preferably a half win to a win and a half of positive WAR. But, nothing is ever a vacuum. Problem 1 is that Mollie is the manager for at least another year. He simply cannot help himself when it comes to DanSan. Problem 2 is that DanSan is an awful baserunner, and a below average to poor fielder. He also doesn't have much for power. That eliminates 3 bench roles that IMO he should not be used for: defensive substitute, pinch runner or pinch hitter. (Again, Mollie can't help but use him as a def. replacement and pinch runner.) The only role that leaves him with is fill in for emergencies and short term injuries. With larger pitching staffs these days, I'm just not sure there is room for a player with such a limited role. My question for Brandon is: Ok, I understand you want to hold onto him in case he finds some of that 2014 magic. How long can he be a negative WAR player before you are willing to move on? Are you willing to carry him for all of 2017, as a negative WAR player, and playing way more than he should (Molitor is coming back), if he continues to put up a negative WAR?
