  1. I think he's a lot closer than a year away. He looks to be ready right now. I'd expect he'll be in the rotation by September 1.
  2. Great to see. Now the question is will Mollie play him.
  3. This is an odd comment, considering I don't see a single poster criticizing the move, and in fact the vast majority are ecstatic over the move.
  4. They've already dictated who the manager is going to be And, there were some reports of some strange comments regarding Antony being under contract and a possibility to come back. It wouldn't shock me at all if Antony keeping his old job becomes stipulation #2.
  5. Although I think he's a reliever, not a starter, I'm fine giving him 25 more starts. It doesn't really matter at this point. Someone needs to go down for Berrios though.
  6. We already are a really bad team even with Santana. We are really not going to miss the extra 2 or 3 wins he might give us.
  7. How is keeping Santana building for the future, though? The guy is 34 years old and even if the Twins take a nice step next year, they aren't going to contend. Also, why does that 5th spot have to be in house? Every year there are a handful of buy low, make good 1 year deal veteran pitcher types. Sign one or two of those and hope to flip them at the deadline, a la Lucas Harrell that the Braves just flipped.
  8. Is there a reason that we can't absorb most of his remaining contract? That solves the issue of teams being scared off by the remaining commitment.
  9. 1) Nobody is saying give him away for peanuts. That is a strawman that I keep seeing over and over. There is a pretty wide gulf of middle ground between "peanuts" and "a kings ransom". 2) We've had 2 good stretches of Twins baseball in my lifetime. Both were cores of players who lost a lot of baseball before they figured out how to win. So, I'm not buying that you can't overcome a "losing culture".
  10. Perhaps you should just ignore the thread then? Rather than jump into a thread and tell everyone in it how lame and pointless their discussion is?
  11. I never said it was impossible. I pretty much said what you just said. The more likely outcome is usually the correct one. In this case that is that those Twins teams were too poor to win it all, not that they had an even chance and got unlucky every year.
  12. Well I'd say that if Burdi is really in jeopardy of missing nearly an entire season because of a bruise, then we probably shouldn't count on him ever staying healthy for an extended period of time. EDIT: OK, I'm an idiot. This is why I shouldn't play a doctor. Apparently these bone bruises can can be pretty severe. They really should find a new name for this, IMO.
  13. Yeah I don't see any way of moving him, per se. But, Mauer should be a bench player. I'm just not sure that Mollie has the guts to do so.
  14. And yet you still find yourself opening the thread. It's almost like there should be some way to know which thread is which so that you can ignore the ones that have nothing new to offer.
  15. Nope, just Molitor being Molitor. And as usual, our well trained Pohlad pocket protector beat writers don't question Molitor on why.
  16. Is your quibble that if the Twins make a deep run and Santana is bad then he was still worth keeping, or that just a mediocre season like 2015 is enough to have been worth it?
  17. If you are willing to weed out the standard throwaway nonsense (from both sides), there is actually some pretty good discussion in this thread.
  18. I'd go one step further and say that Gibson is nearly finished with his prime years. I'd consider ages 25 through 29 a baseball players prime.
  19. Absolutely I will. At the start of season I ripped the Twins pretty heavily for leaving Duffey in AAA. I had no problem admitting I got that one wrong once it became apparent that his stuff isn't going to fly in a major league rotation. I'll make it known I was flat out wrong if either: 1) The Twins get a good package for Ervin this offseason or next year. Or 2) The Twins make a deep run in the playoffs and Santana is a valuable contributor to it.
  20. So where does the Lucas Harrell trade fit into this theory that the Twins can't trade early because only the top guys are traded early? Seems like a pretty clear contradiction to me, but I'm sure I'll very an explanation or two about how the Twins are just unlucky, like always.
  21. When I say contender, I mean WS contender, not just 2nd wild card contender. I vehemently disagree with those who think it's a crapshoot once you get in. If that were true, the odds of the Twins getting swept out of the first round every year would have been astronomical. But, at the end of the day, none of this discussion matters, because the only man whose opinion matters has said he's not considering moving Santana for less than a Kings ransom. I will get a smirk this time next year when the Twins are 15 games under .500 and Santana has lost all his trade value. I already know we will hear the usual: " boy, the Twins are so unlucky. Who could have known that Santana would decline so sharply?"
  22. OK, I was misinformed regarding the NHL buyout process. I'm amazed that the players agreed to that. They must have an incredibly weak union.
  23. Sorry, I was more speaking in generalities, with all the discussions about trades and promotions/demotions the last few weeks. And, stuff like that is kinda what the Assistant GM is for.
  24. I promise not to complain about the return on any player who won't have value in 2018 and beyond. If we get lotto tickets and they don't pan out, that is still better than not even getting any lotto tickets. Now, if it's a guy under 30 like Dozier, then I'm going to look at it more results orientated, because Dozier could potentially still have value the next time we are competitive.
