  1. Leidner through 7 starts: 107/186 (57.5%), 1274 yards (182/gm.), 5 td, 5 int, and the lowest passer rating of his career. Those aren't even mediocre numbers, those are awful. And this from our 5th year senhor with a laughably easy schedule. I get their may not be better options this year, but let's not pretend he's been anything but awful.
  2. FYI, meant to include in that last post. I'm not railing against lawmakers salaries. I'd need to do more research to know if what they make is fair or not. I'm just saying, 40k on the side isn't chump change.
  3. Isn't it a side job though? How many days of the year are they in session? If I could bring in 40k on the side, I think I could live some variation of a high life. No, we aren't talking 200ft yacht money, but 40k buys couple pretty extravagant vacations per year.
  4. You lost me when you brought up cheering against Bill Murray. How could anyone not love Bill Murray?
  5. I think the idea is to grab a few lottery tickets with at least some bounce back potential and try to flip them if they work out. That is a philosophy I agree whole heartedly with, one that Terry Ryan didn't seem to belive in, and one that would potentially have us in better shape now had we done it the last 5 years.
  6. Is there a reason you cut out the part where I went on to disclaim that you'd have to spend the $500k league minimum replace them?
  7. I get that you can't turn over every position in the first offseason. But at the same time, this first offseason will be very important, it's when you start laying the foundation. Don't you think that Levine would want his own guy at assistant GM right away?
  8. And nobody is arguing that they should be dumped if there is still hope that they can return to form. Some of just hope that if the day comes that that hope is no longer realistic, that they aren't given a roster spot just because they are under contract.
  9. As someone has stated before, the "if you get a good return" part should be implied. I wouldn't advocate trading him just to dump him. I was responding to someone who said they wouldn't even consider trading him.
  10. Actually many businesses do operate that way (spreading out costs over multiple years). It's pretty common for a company to invest in an expensive piece of equipment and spread that cost over the expected life of the equipment. And, in Minnesota at least, it's legal to do it that way for tax reporting.
  11. Sano Francisco has 2.5 times as many people as Oakland, how exactly is their market size the same? This isn't like the Yankees and Mets or Cubs and White Sox. This is two separate cities. You don't get to count the whole bay area as up for grabs. People in San Francisco aren't going to become Oakland no matter how the teams play.
  12. The money is already spent. Nobody is asking to spend someone else's money. It's already spent. Which would be a better use of resources? A) Stubbornly rostering a player who gives you 0.5 WAR because you don't want to cut your losses. Or Giving that roster spot to a guy making the league minimum gives you 1.5 WAR. Now, I get there is no guarantee that the guy who gets that roster spot will be better enough to justify the extra 500k, but then again Chief didn't claim as much, just that it should be considered if there is a better player.
  13. So what happens if Santana blows out his arm in May? Or puts up a 5.40 ERA in the first half? Then you've completely wasted an asset. For what, to be a mentor?
  14. The A's are not in a big market. They are the 2nd smallest media market behind Kansas City.
  15. Dave St. Peter is in a completely different department. He has no influence in player transactions.
  16. It's going to be completely new decision makers, with zero ties whatsoever with Dozier. I don't know why you would think it's slam dunk that they wouldn't trade him.
  17. Nothing like showing up hungover on your first day.
  18. I would have liked the Twins to take a free flyer on him. Former top 60 prospect not to long ago. Put up an .843 OPS with 18 stolen bases in AAA last year, but finished the year battling injuries.
  19. I like Dougie Alphabet, and I actually wanted him to be the hire last time. But that was under the old country club rules. I think Falvey is going to aim a lot higher.
  20. I wouldn't bat an eye at including Stewart in a deal. I'd hesitate with any of the other arms.
  21. I used to really appreciate Bert, before he started completely mailing it in a few years ago. I don't think he's said anything new since.
  22. I think the days of Mauer selling even a single ticket are long gone. A handful of guys in baseball sell tickets by themselves, if that. If the new FO is putting fan input ahead of actual evaluation then nothing matters because we are doomed.
  23. I had forgotten that the Vikings can pick up the 5th year option on Teddy. I was thinking that next year would be the last year of his deal- in which case you'd want to recoup a draft pick before losing him for nothing. But yeah, with that 5th year option, it makes sense to keep him 1 more year, unless someone offers you a 1st round pick. The one possible fly in the ointment there is that the Vikings would have to guarantee that option before they know if he's fully recovered.
  24. Anthony Barr has been extremely ordinary this year.
  25. I don't see how you keep both Bradford and Bridgewater. Barring a major injury to Bradford, I think Teddy has probably played his last game in purple.
