  1. Verlander and Archer aren't even remotely comparable. For one, you don't get any surplus salary value with Verlander. Archer gives you a ton. Verlander is unlikely to provide value 2 or 3 years from now as Archer is. Finally, the Astros were likely either lone bidders, or bidding against 1 or 2 other teams, due to the NTC. Archer going on the block would have probably a dozen or more teams making serious offers.
  2. I can't speak for where your memories come from, but in addition to the statements online, I've watched nearly every Vikings game since 1992, and have never seen it broadcast except on special occasions like playoffs and on 9/11 remembrance.
  3. I disagree. Gordon would probably have to be the 3rd most valuable piece to even get them to answer the phone on Archer. Something like Kepler, Lewis, Gordon and Gonsalves would be a start, then probably a high upside add like Enlow, Thorpe or Baddoo.
  4. That's a part too, but eventually getting to the right spot isn't helpful, you need to be there at almost the exact moment the QB is expecting you to be there. In any case, thinking he's some hidden gem that the coaching staff is holding back (why?), despite being desperate for good WR's with Diggs and Floyd out is odd to me.
  5. Agree to disagree that previous seasons should be a consideration at all. This is a yearly award.
  6. If Nick Gordon was even close to enough to get Archer, the deal would already be done, and Tampa's GM would be looking for a new job.
  7. It makes perfect sense that a guy could have an up or down year defensively. No different whatsoever than a hitter or pitcher having an up or down year.
  8. That has nothing to do with my point. The author clearly doesn't think the grades are arbitrary and/or meaningless. If he did, he would have simply done the write ups without including the grades. I happen to agree that the grades don't need to be on a league wide curve, but again, that's besides the point. People disagreeing with his grades don't necessarily mean they think he did a bad job. I just don't understand the need to call people out for having a different opinion.
  9. They are independent contractors, so the team wouldn't pay payroll taxes. Health and pension comes from MLB, not the team. Payroll and salary are going to be near identical in the case of mlb players.

For the record, I think it's by far most likely that Oswald acted alone. But the Ruby thing is what keeps me from being 100% sure.
  11. And with their resources, that's never going to change, no matter who the manager is. They expect a WS title every 3 to 4 years. May not be fair or realistic, but that's the expectation.

The lax security could have been intentional, on both fronts. In fact, that was kind of my point. I refuse to accept that at the height of the cold war, the world was considered some utopian place where security wasn't necessary.
  13. But my point is, the net result wouldn't be much different. I honestly believe that the Bronx is the one place where regular season success means nothing.
  14. Agree completely. Everyone realizes that all these "established names" have been fired for some reason, right?
  15. He was not perfect for this team, come on. Rubio had plenty of flaws too. And, these are the same issues we had last year, with Rubio, same issues. That said, when they moved Rubio, I assumed it would be for an actual improvement. They must have thought they could get better and panicked when they couldn't, because this Teague dude doesn't look like a good player to me.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, at all. But, the one thing I can never get over is Jack Ruby. How is a mob connected thug able to be where he was, when he was, with a gun? How is that possible if everything is on the up and up? Also, why would he even want to be there?
  17. Not sure what the risk is for MY. They have zero interest in regular season wins, it's WS or bust, which Girardi wasn't doing. The worst that could happen is not much different than whats been happening.
  18. It hasn't normally been broadcast, that's just fact, sorry. "The NFL's TV partners normally do not show players before the unfurling of the American flag and singing/playing of the national anthem, except before the Super Bowl and other select games. But given viewer interest around players staging demonstrations last week, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, NFL Network and DirecTV all provided live anthem coverage during Week 3." https://www.google.com/amp/www.sportingnews.com/amp/nfl/news/nfl-national-anthem-players-kneeling-tv-coverage-espn-chiefs-redskins-monday/37l0tobocd8411sz4try5244r
  19. Most NFL throws are timing throws. Occasionally, a play breaks down out of the pocket and it turns into sandlot football, but that's rare. Vast majority are timing throws, which means if you can't run precise routes, you can't play. The QB is throwing to a spot where the receiver is supposed to be. Doesn't matter how open a guy is, or how good he catches the ball, if he's not where he's supposed to be.
  20. I guess the GG process hasn't made the progress that I thought it had. I can go back to viewing it as completely irrelevant I guess.
  21. The risk of them not being the real deal is what allows you to get a discount. If you wait until there is no doubt, then why would the player give up even one cent of peak earnings?
  22. If the letter grade isn't meant to be meaningful, then why not just do the write ups and leave off the grade? The entire premise of the series is basically the grades, I don't understand objecting to discussion of the literal premise set by the author?
  23. Don't you think there is a reason he doesn't play? I'm guessing they'd love to have another good receiver on the field, especially with Diggs out. From what I've heard, he's laughably awful at running routes in practice. He's a bust, IMO.
  24. Why on earth would anyone offer anything good for Laquan Treadwell??
  25. Arizona loves Joe Arpio, who is a vile man, and elected Jan Breuer, and someone thinks they'll go blue sometime soon? Have to admire the optimism I guess.
