  1. On what planet is Harrison Smith not a pro bowler? Zero credibility.
  2. Besides, he's going to get a lot more than $140 million, IMO.
  3. The Twins max out payroll at just over 50% of revenue, so the bonus would have to be $30 million, not 60.
  4. No agent in mlb makes 10% commission. Most are around 2-3%, Scott Boras made the most (#'s from 2013) at 4.7%.
  5. I'm a fan of the move. But, it's hardly a given that he'll be a #3 starter in 2019. If it were, he'd have gotten a lot more money.
  6. So we really have 3 different items: losing Bard, losing Burdi, and taking Kinley. I'm actually going to give the FO the benefit of the doubt on all 3 items. Losing Bard, I think, will hurt a bit. But, with so many guys that needed to be protected, I also would have left him unprotected, and hoped he didn't get taken. So, I can't rightly criticize them for that. With Burdi, I just don't think he'll ever stay healthy. I've always believed that it's a skill to be able to stay healthy. Just like throwing 100 is a skill. You need a cooperative body, sure , but that goes for throwing 100 as well. To me, expecting Burdi to suddenly be able to stay healthy, would be like expecting a guy that throws 85 to suddenly be able to throw 100. It's just not going to happen. With Kinley, he's got a lot of red flags. Old for a prospect, severe control issues, could take up a roster spot, etc. But, he's got the stuff, and I'm going to trust that the FO thinks they can make something click. If you want to find a diamond in the rough, you have to actually be willing to get down and dig through the rough. Sure, often you'll just end up with a bunch of rocks, but again, that's the only way to actually find that diamond.
  7. A new poll from CBS News shows that 51% of gun owners believe that mass shootings "are just something society must accept. "
  8. That's not how risk and value work though. There is no such thing as knowing which guys will make it and which won't. You evaluate a bunch of stuff, including risk and upside to figure a value. A previously unknown physical issue adds risk. That doesn't mean he no longer has a chance to make it, but if that likelihood is lowered, and probably the upside is lowered ad well, then he has less value. Sometimes issues come up at inspection when you buy a house. That doesn't mean you automatically walk away. It could be something that causes you to walk away, but more often it causes you to offer less for the house. Same goes for a used car. Or any number of other contractual situations. It's not uncommon to try to renegotiate a new price when previously unknown conditions arise.
  9. Then why did he only garner 800k on the open market? Did the other teams conspire to keep his price low in order to make the Twins look good? If it wasn't a legit concern, he'd have gotten close to $3 million from another club.
  10. If he failed his physical, which would be an explicit condition of the contract, it doesn't mean the Twins didn't believe in him. The fact that he only got 800k should eliminate any concerns that the Twins just changed their minds on him. Clearly the market agrees that his physical condition no longer makes him worthy of a $3 million bonus.
  11. If Marte legitimately has a physical issue, it would have been gross incompetence to still pay full price. Every contract has conditions, it's not personal.
  12. I wouldn't say no 2018 benefit. He should be able to contribute by August.
  13. Yeah I think any offer for Archer that doesn't start with Lewis gets a "thanks, but no thanks. "
  14. Very happy to be wrong!
  15. I'd love to have the chance to blow the WS.
  16. I think Cole plus Lynn, and Santana not regressing would give us a legit shot at the division. (Assuming we add legit bp help.) We wouldn't be the favorites, but we'd be close enough to win it 30% of the time, IMO.
  17. I'd do that in a heartbeat, if true. That seems light to me though.
  18. There are many places online that take sports bets.
  19. Well, there is an easy resolution for those that think the odds are too low...
  20. RE: The pitching to the score. IMO, not trying as hard because you have a comfortable lead is a negative attribute, not a positive one. If true, of course.
  21. Could be, though I doubt it. Mauer has had 4 seasons higher, and Stanton hits the ball harder than Joe. But even if it is, it won't be by a significant amount. I'd imagine he'll be in the Miguel Cabrera range for his career, which is .344.
  22. Because without front line pitching, the Twins have practically zero chance of winning the whole thing. And the professional gamblers know this.
  23. All great points. My mistake.
  24. His babip is .357, which is perfectly in line with someone who hits the ball as hard as he does. For reference, it's only 16 points higher than Joe Mauer's career babip.
