The common response is a Salary Floor, but I'm with you. I think they'll, rightfully, explore expanding the revenue sharing. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see them put in requirements to dip into that revenue sharing pool either. The Athletics, Pirates, and Marlins have no business getting the $200 million check from MLB. Frankly, neither do the Twins right now though they're far from the biggest offender and we SHOULD expect to see a change in direction once ownership changes hands.

MLB needs a true salary cap so that we can reach levels of parity seen in the NFL. Wait a minute.

Yeah, Zips calling for 27 seems a lot more realistic. And I still might take the under.

Just saw a tweet really driving home how inactive this Twins Organization has been. Courtesy Brooksgate on the nazi's social media site: AL Central Teams in Free Agent Spending the last 2 Off-seasons Royals 13th overall - $117M Tigers 17th overall - $84M White Sox 21st overall - $58M Guardians 22nd overall - $57M Twins 29th overall - $8M

Whoa, whoa, whoa. How dare you? The 2020-2023 Mets were perhaps that, but they then hired, arguably, the best executive in baseball. David Stearns gonna lead my Mets to the promised land.

17 days until pitchers and catchers report, but we're 88 days since the start of the offseason. That means the Twins front office took a nice 70 day break if they're halfway through the offseason. Good for them!

There are also skills and instincts. And Martin showed none as an OF. Athleticism isn't enough to be a good major leaguer. His value is greatly diminished as strictly a mediocre middle infield backup and pinch runner now, but that's not cause Buxton wasn't inviting enough or whatever.

Agrree. The Twins Organization seems to be poor at evaluating player defensive skills. He's played more games at CF than any position. He's just bad. Time to stop making excuses for him.

It'd be incredibly foolish to pigeon hole players into a position right away. It is prudent that the team recognize early when a player will not be able to play a position and move them off it (like they failed to do with Austin Martin) but moving a player around the diamond is not hindering anyone's development. Austin Martin doesn't suck because he has played too many positions. He's been allowed to suck because the Twins failed to recognize he can't play OF but put him out there anyways. Likewise, it would have been completely foolish to move Lee off of SS if the team thought there was a chance to actually play the position at the major league level which talent evaluators thought was possible last summer. You don't intentionally lessen the value of your asset. But that presents an issue if that player hasn't been allowed to get reps at a certain position by the time they make the show and their best position is occupied. I really don't understand how anyone thinks Royce falling like a stone down the defensive spectrum is the Twins fault.

I'm happy to see a 27 year old non prospect with a career ops of 760 in the minors get a chance. But with Buxton as your starter, you need to prepare with a proper backup. MAT was a brilliant backup for that reason, being a great defensive outfielder with a chance to make an impact with his bat occasionally. Margot was a good thought but the Twins hadn't gotten the memo that his defense had fallen off a cliff. Keirsey is fine. But I'm guessing his defense is average to below average and his ops+ is going to be 85 at best. Him being replacement level isn't really the problem. Buxton being unable to play half a season is the real problem.

I'll give him credit for trading for Michael A Taylor too. That's the kind of low risk trade he should be making. But he tried it again with Margot and that was a complete bust. Still should keep trying those types of trades because the potential reward is much higher than Gasper as 1B or Keirsey as CF.

Falvey really hasn't done a thing in two years. He had a big January 2023 and hasn't done anything to improve the team since. There will not, and should not, be a Salary Cap implemented.

Should Byron Buxton Fear the Swing Speed Aging Curve?
NYCTK replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm putting the over under on career WAR left in his career at 6.0. Really not excited to see the rest of the career of a man whose value is derived from speed and power get dramatically slower and weaker. IMO Twins would have been wise to shop him this offseason before he truly becomes a 4th OF, which he's arguably been since 2017 anyways. But this is from someone that doesn't believe in this team at all. If you actually think they have a real chance at 90-95 wins in 2025, it makes a move like that stupid as hell.- 19 replies

100%. No team cares that much about their backup catcher. Some of the best teams and how they acquired their backup catchers. Dodgers: acquired as a throw in on a trade Phillies: acquired in a minor league trade for a non prospect Mets: claimed off waivers Yankees: acquired with a RP in a backup catcher swap Braves: claimed off waivers

Cosign. They've accomplished nothing but a fluke year in a juiced ball season. And the team and farm are in such a mediocre state currently. 7 years is plenty to determine Falvey just doesn't have the sauce. And Rocco pinch hit Margot so frequently that he set a major league record in futility. New Owners, New Organization.

5 Burning Questions Facing the 2025 Twins Bullpen
NYCTK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have watched him, and he has indeed looked very good in short spurts. The problem is how short those spurts are and if there's any reason to believe THIS time he'll be healthy. And I don't think there is. Maybe he learns how to actually take care of his body? But then we'd expect to see a huge drop-off in production.- 49 replies

5 Burning Questions Facing the 2025 Twins Bullpen
NYCTK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with this. I just doubt that they have any reason he wouldn't translate as a starter and just want the bullpen depth. But that's me defaulting to this organization being poorly operated. Interestingly, only Gaddis was ever considered a starting pitcher prospect in their system. The other two were either already RP when they entered the system or immediately converted.- 49 replies

5 Burning Questions Facing the 2025 Twins Bullpen
NYCTK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That they insist upon stretching out Varland but refuse to allow Jax another chance to start tells me that this organization has no idea what they're doing. Shocking that they've not had any sustained success since 2010.- 49 replies
