  1. The world's richest man (and cosplay nazi) effectively leading the government is gonna do nothing but exasperate this issue. But it'll all be worth it as long as we give more tax cuts to those fearless job creators. 🫡
  2. That's technically every employee's job. Now, if we want to move to a socialist system, I'm all for it. But I'd rather see that in real life than in sporting competition.
  3. He's way faster than a player that was consistently around 29 ft/sec? That makes him elite, fastest in the league. I think you've bought into the hype way too much.
  4. Complicit? This is just a terrible way to discuss it. They're not going to bankrupt a single owner, so the players are under no obligation to take a pay cut so cheap billionaires can make more money. And they'd obviously be under no obligation even if their fair pay would bankrupt an owner. I don't concern myself with how my salary affects my employer's bottom line. I don't see that being the case at all. If a player is willing to work on a minor league contract, players can get work. I point to Jose Iglesias last season, as I often do. He signed a minor league deal and then forced his way onto a major league team and then became a huge difference maker.
  5. Honestly, I just don't think much needs to be done. You have many teams that don't WANT to compete so they collect the $200 Million check and then strive to win 80 games and make an operating profit. The teams that are doing it right aren't at all concerned about the operating profit and just want to increase the value of the brand. Are some of the owners not rich enough to do that? I guess, but why is that anyone's problem? They're holding onto a multi billion dollar asset that's earning a passive 10% and crying poor. Absolutely no salary cap should be agreed to. We might see increased revenue sharing and CBT thresholds or whatever, but the system is actually fine for the most part. The problem with the Dodgers isn't their payroll actually. They lucked out because 3 top Japanese talents all decided to play there regardless of salary. Ohtani is probably one of the most UNDERPAID athletes in the world, as hard as that might be to believe. Meanwhile they've been handing out fair market value contracts to complimentary players, like in their bullpen.
  6. I can't really watch baseball highlights at work. Not to the level I'm posting on here anyways. I'll see him if he makes it to the show.
  7. I don't think his stuff is good enough, but as a fellow member of the Jax-to-Starter chorus I like the idea.
  8. Never seen him. Doesn't change the fact that he's had pretty limited playing time in the high minors, his K rate was 30% and his BABIP was above .400. I think he's a huge bust candidate and would be happy to trade him away.
  9. I don't agree that the kid is ready. He's only had 200 PAs above A+ and while his results have been good, his K rate is extremely high and his BABIP is otherworldly, which is to say I'm not convinced. Let him get another 100 PAs in AAA before we declare him ready.
  10. Conversely, here's a ball with a 35% catch probability that Keirsey should have gotten to, but I'm not gonna beat up on him for it. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=4a144ff0-2e01-47e7-bc63-7bccc7064a7b
  11. Decent read, but ultimately a pretty routine ball. If I'm not mistaken, that ball has a 76-90% catch probability.
  12. I think we're largely in agreement on these veterans values. I don't think they're stars. But we know Bader is actually a plus defender (Hernandez probably isn't anymore) and he's still likely a better hitter. I wouldn't want to pay him $10 M but the market doesn't seem to think it is either. But $5-8 million is a more than fair salary for someone of Bader's skills, and especially for a team like the Twins who will almost certainly need 80+ starts in CF from their backup CF. An actual contender would have a solid "4th OF". A pretender will use Keirsey instead. I think Jose Iglesias epitomizes the undervaluing of Veteran players that can still play premium defense. No one should expect him to duplicate his success with the bat last season, but he's still a premium glove at 2B and passable at SS and 3B. Defense doesn't slump and you can get lucky and get a truly team changing spark plug like Candelita was last season. IF Keirsey was as good with the glove as some here think, I am all for him being a major leaguer. I just haven't seen it and the supporting evidence isn't there for me to believe it yet.
  13. Keirsey is really interesting. We've heard good things about his defense, but those reports are from the same people that said Austin Martin was looking great in the OF. I didn't see enough of him to get any sort of read on him last year. I tend to believe he's going tend to be more of an average to below average CF just based on the vibes I'm picking up. If he were truly a great CF he wouldn't have been sent back to AA after 2022 (unless the Twins are truly incompetent which...is more than possible). That, paired with a 650 OPS, isn't really a great plan for CF when Buxton inevitably misses 80+ games. Not for a team that has aspirations of being a contender anyway. If they were truly serious about being a contender they'd bring in an actual backup CF like Bader or Hernandez, but we all know the billionaires don't have the money for that.
  14. Not so, I love most of the pitching, except Woods Richardson but not really alone in that. And I do think Carlos Correa is very good and ultimately worth his contract. I just think it's not really worth it for a team on a tight budget, hampering a team that is well short of being a contender from improving. Someone's an optimist...
  15. Do you really think the Pohlad Twins are gonna pay $25 million in 2025 for Pete Alonso?
  16. Forgive me, but I just don't have any faith in the instincts of the manager that coached Manuel Margot to an MLB record of futility. Only reason he wasn't fired is probably because they want to give the new hiring opportunity to new ownership.
  17. I see that you've never seen me discuss Wallner :-) The article asserts that he has the skills to be a good CFer and I, and many others, vehemently disagree. Possessing speed isn't sufficient to be a good CFer, and Austin Martin isn't even that much of a speedster to begin with. If he was struggling with reads and reactions after 1000 innings in the OF, you have to have a lot of faith to think an extra 100 innings in Spring Training is going to be enough to finally get it.
  18. Not really. But probably because it's been obvious since he started playing ball that he didn't have the instincts for the position at the highest level. And while given chance after chance, he made it the show and looked to prove those coaches right.
  19. Not a chance. If he ultimately settles for a 1 year deal it will probably be an effective 1 year deal with player options, looking in structure like the Bellinger contract. Maybe with more drastic declines in salary. Something like, perhaps - Year 1: $28 M Year 2: $23 M Year 3: $18 M A clean 1 year deal is not likely and would for sure be more than $25 M.
  20. Given his skillset and abilities, I think they were right to push him towards that. It's just unfortunate that he's seemingly not good enough in the field to be a utility player at the major league level.
  21. At least with Keirsey it's not hoping he'll figure something out which he's already proven he can't. It's more wishful thinking that the 27 year old's career in the minors was a mirage and the 360 BABIP he had in AAA last year is going to carry his bat to being a reliable major leaguer.
  22. Not to mention, at a certain point the blame is on the player. Austin Martin has been at least a part time OF since he started playing collegiate ball, with the exception of one of those 3 seasons. He hasn't been able to get OF reps in during those 6 years? He busy or something? Now that he's 26 we're supposed to believe he'll finally be able to put it together? I said last season that he'll be lucky to get 1000 career PAs and I'm sticking with that. He has two more option years, so he's gonna bounce up and down and then end up on the Long Island Ducks or something like that. He's Luis Guillorme but without the glove.
  23. There was only one season of control left for Berrios.
  24. Even better than that, you need only look at the 2022 Season in which Berrios had a 5.23 ERA over 170 IP.
  25. I just don't understand this myth that has someone taken grasp here. He'd played 1000+ innings in the OF in his career before reaching the majors, mostly in CF. At what point is someone no longer learning a new position?
