  1. Even if that were the case, then he deserved to be fired for refusing to push back on his boss. Maybe he learned something and he can bring that to his next job.
  2. I'm gonna go back to my original comment. They're good, intriguing bats. And I'm very happy to watch them grow. But they are NOT elite bats. This level of hype is why a bunch of people were shocked that Miranda sucked. I'm just trying to set reasonable expectations for both the players and the fans sake.
  3. Yes. And I don't mean that as a derogatory. He's not a Top 100 prospect. He's not a 45 grade prospect. I do like him, especially as return for a rental player, but let's not make him something that he's not. He was 17th in wRC+ for all AA players under the age of 25 with at least 250 PAs. Really impressive! But because he's offering no defensive value, also not good enough to be truly exciting. But plenty to be intriguing!
  4. No. I know fans are impatient, but there's no reason to even discuss this really. This sort of uber-hype over pretty good but ultimately run-of-the-mill prospects is how fans get disappointed about prospects. Mendez is a bat-only prospect with a AA OPS under 850. He's not a top 100 prospect, and not particularly close to being one. 2026 is going to be rough, but that doesn't mean fans should hope the Twins rush their prospects to the big leagues. I put the chance of him being an opening day starter at about 1% and that still seems too high.
  5. The surprise is not that he was fired. It's how he stayed in the job for 7 seasons, enough to become the 3rd most winning Twins manager? There's far too much job security in the Twins organization. Probably why they have a culture that doesn't emphasize winning.
  6. Fact of the matter is the Twins minor league pitching was a massive disappointment this year. Their top internal pitching prospect, in MLB pipeline, only pitched 62 innings with a 1.35 WHIP in A+, and their only 50 FV prospect pitched 80 innings with a 1.51 WHIP. There's not much of anything to get excited about down there, and helps explain why the team brought in so much pitching in their sell-off. Falvey has failed spectacularly and should have been fired with Rocco after the 2024 season.
  7. Ok, but that is an entirely separate concern from their payroll. You asked why the other owners would allow Twins to slash payroll, and I told you why.
  8. Because the Pohalds haven't actually been that stingy on payroll relative to the rest of the league, always being slightly below average to average, and allowing a team for a few years in the bottom of the payroll in order to do a rebuild is part of the cycle of team ownership for anyone not in one of the 3 major markets. There's no reason any owner should object to the Twins having a payroll under $100 Million next year because there might come a year in the future where that owner might similarly want to run a very low payroll for a few years in order to get right. This payroll slashing isn't just because the team wants to lower their expenses like the Athletics. It's a recognition that the team they built was dogshit and needed a complete overhaul.
  9. Are we still legally allowed to criticize billionaires? Or does that fall under anti-capitalist and make one Antifa now?
  10. I can promise you that the Twins didn't enter a rebuild in order to give a big contract, even if a one year deal, to Devin Williams for a 74 win team in 2026.
  11. Whoever it might be, we can be certain that the people on this website are going to think he's terrible and should be fired.
  12. Good pull. 3.70 xFIP in the 1st vs 3.84 in the 2nd. He's actually pitched pretty consistently. He is not an ace, never has been, but is a very consistent #2. If a team wants to trade for him as an ace, the Twins would be foolish to hang up the phone.
  13. Can we stop talking about the Twins pitching pipeline? It's nothing but Twins propaganda at this point. 9 years in and their pitching development can't be described as anything other than mediocre.
  14. If you think you are actually a front line starter from being a true contender it makes all the sense in the world. Especially considering Tolle is 22 and it seems like he's just not quite ready yet. I can PROMISE you the Red Sox didn't come to some conclusion that one of the top pitching prospects in the game has no future as a major league starter at the age of 22...and then proceeded to call him up to the majors to start important games at the end of their playoffs hopeful season. This is defensible position, especially considering the sad state of internally developed pitching in the Twins system. I can see why they focused on bringing in some SP talent in their trade offs. There are about 600 minor league SP prospects with 60+ IP, and in the top 100 by xFIP, there is only one Twins prospect, Cole Peschl. Only one more in the top 200, Prielipp. That's really bad results for a front office whose stated goal was to build a pitching pipeline. A flat out failure if we're being honest. Peralta will be in his last season under Milwaukee's control. Milwaukee is a well run organization and tends to trade away players at the end of their team control. Brandon Woodruff is actually a mutual option, not a team option like I believed, so I do imagine he's going to decline the option, which would increase the likelihood Milwaukee makes every effort to sign Peralta to an extension, but we'll see.
  15. I have double rooting interest for the Pirates right now! The help rescue the terrible Mets in the race for the last playoff spot (which shouldn't even exist) AND for the lottery odds. Raise that Jolly Roger Buccos
  16. I think the Mets would offer something like Sproat plus 2 of Vientos/Mauricio/Reimer/Clifford/Acuna for Lopez/Ryan. Should the Twins talk with the Red Sox? Of course, but now there are a lot more teams that will be in the bidding for a good #2 starter. Tolle plus something is a really good offer. I don't know that they're going to beat it in the offseason, so I can understand why this deal almost happened. But, at the same time, players like Sonny Gray or Freddy Peralta/Brandon Woodruff might also be put on the trade block so who knows what the trade market even looks like.
  17. If we're gonna cherry pick, his last 200 PAs he's hit .233/.270/.397, that's a .667 OPS. He had a very good month of play in the middle of the season, but otherwise has been downright terrible since his June 17th, 2024. Even with that scorching hot month he's hit .227/.281/.387, a .668 OPS. since then over 658 PAs.
  18. He's 26, widely considered a player's peak age, has been and remained relatively healthy, and will finish the year as a massive disappointment with less than 1.5 WAR. Any belief he'll ever be a 2+ WAR player again is now wishful thinking instead of any sort of rational thought. I'm happy he's shown some improvement at 3B. But even so, looks like his peak is a .250/.300/.430 player with average defense. No longer looking like a building block but instead just a decent everyday guy or even a role player, a la Kody Clemens. Every team can use a player like that so I'm not trying to **** on him too much. Just really sad at how his career has gone.
  19. You care way too much about the Yankees. They went 2-4 against them, all after they gave up at the trade deadline. That's exactly what was expected.
  20. Two straight seasons under a .300 OBP. I don't care that he's stealing more when he's on base as infrequently as he is.
  21. Nor is it why last year either. But a lot of people wanted to believe it was so they could convince themselves this team was significantly better than it actually was. If you require perfect health to be a good team, you're a bad team. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.
  22. Wait a minute, aren't you the one obsessed with Pre-Arb players and making sure these jobs go to internal options? Why are you suddenly changing your tune for a nepo baby replacement level player? Kody Clemens is the EXACT type of player you should hate. He's an old, external, replacement level player, at best, and his roster spot should probably be used developing a young player, not hoping baseball is genetic and that three weeks of excellent play are somehow more indicative of his talent than the entirety of the rest of his career?
  23. I don't know that the Mets got discount but they were gonna match any offer he received and I could see them doing that again this year. But maybe not. This Mets collapse might have them ready to move on.
  24. A fan of TWO teams? Literally impossible.
