And, separate and apart from the RH/LH stuff (which I agree with), sometimes a player needs to go down to get reset/restore their confidence/work on their swing. Sending someone down can actually yield a better result later. Fingers crossed that the same thing happens to Julien. If it does, then we'll REALLY have a roster crunch, which would be awesome.

Wallner went down, got a reset, and has been a much better hitter since that time. Presumably part of the reset was playing every day. If he isn't sent down, or if he is called back up on May 31 and then relegated to playing part time, he may or may not have been able to reset and be hitting the way he has hit since that time. In other words: we wouldn't have necessarily gotten this Wallner if we had not sent him down/called him up on 5/31. Personally, I'm happy we have him now. And since June 1 the team has been 21-14 (.600 winning percentage) with basically the top offense in the AL.

I certainly won't defend the selection of Holmes over Jax. You're absolutely correct that Jax has a better case. I would merely observe that the selections are a product of the focus on saves, not an example of anti-Twins bias. God, I just (sort of) defended a Yankee. Now I need a bath.

Different teams are built in different ways. The Royals are built around a few stars who have played really well. The Twins are built around a lot of players who are playing well. Given that fact it is not surprising (and not unfair) that the Royals have more all-stars than the Twins. Personally, I prefer the Twins approach. I think it is more sustainable and more Minnesotan. But that's largely a matter of personal preference.

There are few things that irritate me more than a pitcher who gets offensive support and then immediately hands the runs back to the other team. In that regard SWR is to be commended for holding the line the last three innings and giving the offense the opportunity to chip away and tie it up. Very impressed by this performance.

Buxton is the same as Taylor? Taylor's 2024 WAR is .1 Buxton's 2024 WAR is 1.6 (Fangraphs WAR, that is) WAR accounts for playing time, defense, strikeouts, etc. It's not perfect, but it's the best comprehensive measure of contributions I know of. Taylor's basically a replacement level player. That's worthwhile. But Buxton's been much, much better this year.
