    Couldn't find a solid thread on the topic, so figured I'd start one (Mods feel free to roll this in somewhere else if there's a dedicated draft thread somewhere I missed). Jonathan Mayo @ mlb.com just posted his updated 2026 Mock Draft. Interesting shift, as he has the Twins going w/ Flora over Lackey. https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/mlb-pipeline-2026-mock-draft-may-21?t=mlb-draft-coverage I realize we're a month & a half out, but draft speculation is always fun.

    I'm pretty confident Gonzalez will start against Tolle. Doesn't make a lot of sense to call up a legit prospect and let him sit for 3 days when we need RH bats against Tolle today.... But then again, Twins do a number of things that don't make a lot of sense.

    My point is there's not a need relative to other options already on the 40-man. Mendez & Gabe Gonzalez are much better options than Fedko if you want to DFA Outman (which I'd be fine with).

    If he keeps up this production in AAA, he'll eventually get a shot somewhere as a 4th or 5th Outfielder. May not be with the Twins, as we don't have a particular need there & have some other prospects pretty well ahead of him. That's ok - he'll get a shot eventually as a low-upside but hopefully serviceable back-up big leaguer. Then it'll be up to him to prove he belongs.

    Not sure what the other options would be with this ragtag collection. It looks random because the results have been random (and bad). The results wouldn't look any better if you shuffled the bad pitchers in to more "defined roles."

    Some of the Twins injuries are insane. There is absolutely no reason any meaningful prospect in the minors should EVER jump in to a wall (Jenkins) or slide into 1st base. It's a very easy thing to coach. Games matter in the majors - if you want to jump in to walls there, you could at least justify it. In the minors it's completely asinine for a top prospect.

    Fine in theory, but then you've gotta commit to some other decisions. Playing Culpepper at 3rd is evidence that we'll likely see him in the bigs soon. If that's the case, you can either A) play him at 3B, or B) Play him at SS. But if you play him at SS, you have to either move Brooks to a utility role and/or move Brooks to 2B and move Keaschall to St. Paul. Let him get comfortable" is a fine idea, but doesn't account for the other things going on, given how close he is to the bigs.

    Yeah he did. To be clear I'm not expecting much... I'm just a sucker for new blood that hasn't proven to be predictably terrible at the MLB level.

    I'm looking forward to seeing what Alex Jackson can do. Obviously not a big prospect at this point, but was the #6 overall pick in 2014 and has had a very respectable minor league career (0.783 lifetime OPS). 0.806 OPS this year @ St. Paul. And actually played well in his 2025 MLB stint w/ Baltimore - 91 ABs, 0.763 OPS, 5HR. (2024 w/ Tampa Bay not so much though). 30 years old, but could be our bridge Catcher or part of a platoon for a few years if we don't re-sign Jeffers this offseason.

    Responded the same way in the game-thread, but more relevant here: They may also just think Arcia gives them a better shot to win right now (and I don't disagree). I don't think the Twins have given up on the season, and would love to get some more fan butts in the seats by hanging around 0.500 through the ASB.

    I always chuckle when folks are worried about 40-man spots on a team with 3 above average & ~3-4 league average regulars. Not being snarky, I realize they have some decisions to make.     Full-time catchers don't typically play elsewhere in the field on days when they're not catching. Occasionally they'll DH, but it wouldn't be common for a catcher to play another defensive spot on an "off day." That would kind of defeat the purpose of giving them additional rest (catching is very tough on the body). Tait would only be getting defensive reps elsewhere if the Twins thought he may not end up as a Catcher.

    Do we know if Buxton & Sands are back today? ESPN shows their "expected return" as today, but not sure how reliable that is.

    I think it's probably counterproductive medium & long term to coddle MLB players to protect fragile egos or confidence. If you don't have the intrinsic confidence & resilience to deal with slumps, demotions, tough love, etc. you're unlikely to last long as a big leaguer. Major League Baseball's a humbling sport (a lot like golf) - confidence and resilience are a meaningful part of what separate long-time big leaguers from the guys who never stick or make it.

    Are there any examples of players who turned in to useful big leaguers after striking out 67 of their first 133 minor league at bats? Genuine question - I don't think I've ever seen a 50%+ K rate with more than 100 ABs. To this article's point, I will say he's been better so far in May (albeit small sample size). After yesterday he's at 12ks in 33 ABs in May with an 0.916 OPS.

    Amen. Shelton's been so refreshing. I almost prefer watching a Shelton team lose more than a Rocco team win. Not quite, but almost. Starters deep in to games (when they deserve it), consistent line-ups, very few early/mid game PHs, creative base-running. Amen.

    I would have said the same thing, and would have been right. Clearly the Patreon podcast isn't paying the bills, as Gleeman was working at the Athletic when he started it & continued to until now... which was my point. I'm not suggesting he won't get any subscribers at all, just that it would be very tough to pull off as a primary source of income... My guess is we see him sign on again somewhere at some point. But I enjoy his work, and I'm not sure why you say I wouldn't personally subscribe. I'm the target market & may subscribe.

    The only way to make meaningful money (enough for it to be your primary income) writing about the Twins is to be hired by a larger publication - Star Trib, Pioneer Press, ESPN, etc. Very few people will pay a subscription fee to read a single writer's Twins takes, no matter how interesting they are. Maybe he should collab here at TD? His writing could be an additional "premium content" carrot for the "Ad-Free Caretaker" tier?

    Much more than I thought I'd be after 23 games! As I've gotten older I've started to care less about championships & deep playoff runs - although both would be fantastic. I just want a competitive, fun-to-watch Twins team - and this group has been well above that bar so far this year. Twins game are the soundtrack to a MN spring & summer. I'll always tune in, and always take my boys to 10-15 games a year so long as they're not utterly dreadful. Enjoying the squad so far this year! So far I've also enjoyed Shelty much more than Rocco. I'm not an analytics denialist, but Rocco was just so robotic. I enjoy the more consistent line-ups and longer leash w/ starters. (Good riddance to 5th inning pinch hitters). Rocco sucked some of the fun out of it for me. And I'll point out that the record so far doesn't seem to be a mirage. Our run differential (+14) is 9th in the majors. With a better bullpen, we'd have one of the best records as well.
