Drafting Roch wouldn't end discussions of Marek Houston as the Twins shortstop of the future. Marek's glove is as strong as Roch's (both are potential Gold Glovers), but neither player projects as a strong middle-of-the-order bat. Roch's hit tool projects as average to slightly below average. Given his early showing in the minors, Marek's proven more at this point. I'll point out Cullpepper is a better prospect than either of them right now. From Fangraphs draft profile of Roch: "He identifies and adjusts to breaking stuff and moves the barrel around pretty well, but middling plate discipline and Cholowsky's lever length combine to keep his hit tool projection a little south of average. He should still be able to access pull-side power with regularity because of his style of swing and good (for a shortstop) power."

How is this team the #1 Offense in the AL?
Possumlad replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Luck doesn't seem to have much to do with it - unless you just mean "luck" in the sense that our guys are playing better than they "should" be. Our runs scored this year align pretty nearly with expectation & other hitting measures. Runs can be be quirky, but we also lead the AL in OPS. On-Base & Slug are both strong - neither is making an outsized contribution to OPS. Our Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP) is 13th in the MLB, right in the middle of the pack. No real luck there.- 10 replies

How is this team the #1 Offense in the AL?
Possumlad replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Short answer is we genuinely have a good offense. Some situational luck notwithstanding, we're 20 runs ahead of the next best team in the AL this year (448 vs. WSox at 428). #1 in in the AL in Team OPS as well, and 7th in the MLB. The other half of the Box Score is killing us. Team ERA is 4.78, good for 13th in the AL & 27th in the MLB. WHIP looks very similar. We can make a run if trade bats for pitchers at the deadline (looking at you Jeffers & Larnach)- 10 replies

My only real hope is that the Twins sell high on Jeffers. Whatever our hopes for the rest of this season, we simply can't afford to just let Jeffers walk at the end of this year.. There's about a 0% chance he's re-signing w/ the Twins. Cash in now. My overall preference is a middle ground. Sell high on Jeffers & Larnach (for some combination of pitching and/or prospects) and get something for Bell if you can. Call up Roden, Cullpepper, and either EROD or Mendez.

I understand the sentiment, but I think you're jumping the gun. From what I've read and can find most recently, Jenkins projects as an average to slightly above average major league CF... Decent speed, good instincts, great arm. My guess is he plays his first 4-5 major league seasons in Center. Sure, he may end up in a corner.

Jenkins is a full-time Center Fielder. He's only played a corner outfield handful of times in the minors.. 15 total in his career.

I think the guys we traded have performed about as well as expected. They're good players, which is the reason we got a significant return on the deals.- 45 replies

5 Truths About the 2026 Twins We Can't Ignore
Possumlad replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've said this elsewhere, but I think there's a reasonable chance Lewis spends the next 2-3 years as a (slightly?) above above average starter at 1B for the Twins. (He's an UFA in 2029). His glove absolutely plays there, and his 0.840 OPS since the call-up would be 10th in the MLB at 1B this year. I assume that'll level out some, but an OPS between 0.750-0.800 would put him in the 15-20 range for MLB 1B. Better than most of what we've run out there for the last 5-10 years.- 45 replies

5 Truths About the 2026 Twins We Can't Ignore
Possumlad replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice article Sam, and I mostly agree. Trading Larnach & Jeffers for some real-deal bullpen help would make this a fun team. I don't think you need to sell much beyond that... Maybe Bell if you can get a real piece back.- 45 replies

The Twins have a number of issues w/ roster construction & management, but recent draft results haven't really been one of them. Hit rate in the draft has been solid going back 4-5 years.

10 Walks in 12.1 IP in May, followed by 2 Walks over 25.2 innings in May & June. That can't be random. Was it a mechanical change? If not mechanical, I assume it's psychological. Will be interesting to see if he can keep it rolling in the majors. A lot of success in the majors comes down to mental resilience.

I often forget this, so just posting in case others do as well & find it helpful. The Twins website does a great job detailing injury status & updates. Includes pretty detailed commentary & timelines. I often find myself wondering about status & forgetting where to check. Link: https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-injuries-and-roster-moves

Trading Trevor Larnach Just Makes Too Much Sense
Possumlad replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Saying "we don't know yet" is ok. The Twins traded present for future production at last year's deadline. We don't know nearly enough yet to know whether the future production will pan out - that's the nature of trading current starters for prospects. Of the deals they made, I'd make every one of them again outside of Varland (although even there we don't have enough info). The Correa move was a pure salary dump. Duran for Tait & Abel I'd do again in a heartbeat. Jax for Bradley, yes please. (Bradley's already been far more valuable than Jax this year - 1.6 WAR vs. 0.2) Varland & France for Rojas & Roden - probably not, but Rojas & Roden both still time to make this a big win. Brock Stewart, Castro, and Bader weren't in the intermediate-term plans either way, so if any of those prospects pan out it's a small victory. -

It’s Time to See More Ryan Kreidler
Possumlad replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"A lot of that is buoyed by his four home runs and 10 walks, and his .383 OPS (yes, OPS, not OBP) casts a cloud over anyone who wants to believe that he’s a competent hitter." ? Kreidler does not have a 0.383 OPS. Was this paragraph written by AI?- 40 replies

Mick Abel Has the Foundation of a Future Ace
Possumlad replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wouldn't trade Abel and Tait for Duran right now. Abel's value has increased significantly since the trade.
