Respectfully there is MUCH more to Byron striking out so much. 1st the second pitch of that example at bat was not a cutter. was just a fastball up and in that he should have hit .. but didn't. The biggest problem that Buxton has is not what pitch he is swinging at but is a result of the underlying problem. Coaches and hitting coaches can point this out and he has been doing for several years. His front side is "flying out" on every swing. When he first came up his swing was pretty level and he didn't overswing. His focus was on hitting the ball hard somewhere and wasn't "hunting" something to hit 450 ft. As a "result" of the current swing and pulling off the ball opposing pitching coaches are going to go hard in and down as he can't do anything with that pitch or what has been seen a ton - sliders on the outer half... doesn't really matter where too much as his front side is GONE and he is going to either miss the pitch.. foul it off or hit it weakly somewhere as he can't square it up. How to fix it? Has to close up his front side so he can't do what he is currently doing as well as focus on hitting it to right center, so he stays on the ball. Will they have him do it? Haven't seen it yet... Sano did the same thing. Got pull happy and just about cost him his career.

Not sure that the Dodgers are in great need of a SS but Farmer going that direction would make WAY more sense... Dodgers give up one of their "close" to the majors pitchers and we send say Soto back... Farmer and Soto for any of River Ryan, Gavin Stone or Kyle Hurt I could live with that ...

...... and if like the Rays... will get great prospects that will end up being as good if not better keeping the team relevant and winning.

In the long season that MLB is.. the depth will be needed. will give him time to get his legs again. Hopefully he stays healthy. He had stud written all over him like Alex until the injury bug got him.

Our staff is fine... the # 5 spot "should be" the spot we use a Varland or other prospects to see what they have. If it is a shuttle to see who can handle it so be it. Would be fine with another Vet but likely would have to be a minor league deal which the "better" of the ones mentioned likely would not want and are looking for a major league deal. If Thor would take a minor league deal that is the direction I would go. He clearly is not himself but this coaching staff seems to get the best out of guys most of the time and at only 31 may have a few years left. Minor league deal that if turns into a major league deal gets him say 3-5 mil?

Grading the Minnesota Twins’ 2024 Offseason
specialiststeve replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would give them a B. Team and system has the players to win the division again and has a chance to take the next step forward. Hopefully at the trade deadline or before they add a quality SP but at this point they are in a good spot... could it be better? Sure but they are being responsible with the payroll until the TV situation is resolved.. that is ... next year. Have the best roster in the central.. Have an Ace... Top 3 of staff are very solid and the 4 and 5 pitching spot has a chance to be better than most. Offensively we have a MUCH more well rounded team and bats 7 or 8 deep.. Damn good. Look at some other rosters around baseball.. WE are GOOD!- 46 replies

When Lee arives he has a shot a the Gold Glove at that position... We are good. Biggest question is when will Lee take over at 2B.. My guess is either AK or Santana get hurt and then the Lee time will arive.

Very solid move. Needed a quality 4th OF that was a right hand bat. Folks want to make this so emotional.. LOL 4 Mil for a quality 4th OF is a good deal. Plenty of season and injuries for the AAA guys to get their cup of coffee. As far as the Minor leaguers involved.. Miller has a great glove but NO bat. TON of those in the minors.. Doncon has a MUCH higher ceiling with his bat and if he hits and has a respectable glove he has a shot at the show.. Miller .. not so much. Smart move.. not earth shattering but will help ..
-
Not sure why everyone is so broken up about losing Miller... he is a good glove with no bat. Plenty of those out there that no one wants. Doncon is equal and probably better in terms of his bat which plays much better as they get up the ladder. Likely neither will get to the show. Margot is a nice short term fix for the the RH of player that have been looking for - with the cash included is likely around 5 mil.. deal seems to fit. As far as blocking Martin... I too like Martin and thought that he should get a shot but he needs to "prove" he is going to be a difference maker and could be a trade chip if we need to add him to something for pitching down the line.

Twins A Finalist for Utility-man Kiké Hernandez's Services
specialiststeve replied to wiguy94's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Don't see the point. We have inhouse replacements that need AB's to see if they have what it takes. Mostly Martin who is basically Kiki with more upside.. Just give him the gig and lets see what he has got. -
Is David Festa the Guy for the Twins?
specialiststeve replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He finished last year in AAA... and had a sub 3 ERA. He will be on the shuttle this summer to the show when we need a spot starter. He has great stuff and should be a solid #3 if not better by the end of next year if not by the end of the summer. He is very close.- 22 replies

Twins in Position to sign Jordan MOntgomery
specialiststeve commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
Was scouring the news to look for something that the Twins were going to sign him. Title pretty misleading... Would love to have him but 3 years at 25 per would be my limit. He is at best a #3. -
Offseason Status Update: Is This It?
specialiststeve replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Only guy I would touch is also Montgomery. Zero shot for us to do a 5 year deal. 3 years at 25 mil... done deal. Fits well. Some of the "big boys" might go a bunch bigger but for a 3 or 4 that should be about the market. In reality that is what he is. -
Will The Twins Get Their Postseason SP?
specialiststeve commented on Doctor Gast's blog entry in Doctor Gast's Blog
Like others DON'T condone what he was accused of but... he has done his time as they say. If he would sign a minor league deal with a major league kicker if he makes the team.. okay. If there are ANY signs of an issue... CUT immediately. -
Rayes with his health issues and stuff likely to play up as a reliever will likely be his destination in reality. Festa on the other hand has the body and the stuff to be a good #3-5 guy. He does need to sharpen his control and get physically stronger. See Festa getting a turn or two during the season if he can get some better control.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said and the reality of the situation. Too many fans are looking to spend like the Mets to be great... Spending is not the answer unless we need to spend. Spending wisely and keeping our system full of quality options is how a franchise "stays" on or near the top. Come trade deadline if there is a deal to be done that gets us that guy that helps us ... great ... but spending to "look" good is a "fools folly'.
-
So ... spending money wisely and using the resources you have to put out a great product every year is embarrassing? Ridiculous take. There are a TON of teams that spend less and are not competitive! Those teams I do feel should be the teams you target but a team that continually has a great system and pays players their market value.. and when that value gets to a point they can't afford they move them for quality prospects to replenish their system ... rince.. repeat.. compete. Smartly run ...
