  1. 1.) Where are you from? Blaine, by way of Elk River --> Northern Iowa --> Winona. 2.) Age Range? Like Opening Week at Target Field, Upper-30s. 3.) What brought you to Twins Daily? I searched for "Twins Ticket Contests" and the Gleeman and the Geek giveaway came up. 4.) Highest level of baseball/softball played? JV Baseball; Beer-League Softball; Currently coaching 1st graders. 5.) Favorite Twins Player, and favorite underappreciated Twins player, and if you want, favorite current Twins player? Favorite of all time- Hrbek. Favorite underappreciated - Newman (when I worked at a Twins' radio affiliate, he asked me "Which way to the potty?" and won my heart.) Current - Eddie (my son's name, but not after Rosario, at least if you ask my wife.) 6.) Favorite non-Twins Daily site/authors? I don't play favorites. 7.) Favorite Twitter follows? I just search for the hashtag #mntwins during games. 8.) Other interests outside of baseball? I dabble in comedy. I'm funnier in real life. 9.) Favorite part of Twins Daily? Filling out this form. 10.) Tell us what we can do better. What features or other topics would you like to see in-season or out of season? Keep being you (although more ticket giveaways would be great.) 11.) Have you been to any of the Twins Daily events? I was going to, but then I got a job with the Minnesota Twins, and I had to go to work at Target Field instead. And it's a fun job, too!
  2. Calm down. I was trying to be a mediator, offering a position Sano would still be valuable in IF he were to tank as badly as some people are saying/predicting/falsely accusing. Of course I then pulled up Sano's righty vs. lefty splits in 2019 and... whoa. He is not doing great versus lefties.* (.176 BA in 17 AB vs. lefties; .303 BA in 33 AB vs. righties.) So that is reason to negate my original statement, not because I "insinuated" that he was much worse than Marwin. * You'll notice I didn't say "Sano should sit against all lefties" or anything; I was simply showing his 2019 stats**. ** And yes, that is a small sample size.
  3. If his swing-and-miss tendencies continue, then come post-season Marwin Gonzalez is your starting third basemen and Sano becomes a strong righty off the bench when the opposing team's manager puts in a lefty to throw to Kepler or Castro.
  4. An early nomination for "Homerun Call of The Year" goes to Jack Morris's laugh and Dick Bremer's silent reaction to Eddie Rosario's two-run homer in the 7th tonight. Sometimes the crowd reaction is response enough.
  5. From my eye test, Astudillo is no longer getting great pitches to swing at, and his reputation of "never strike out/never walk" means he is swinging at and making contact with a lot of crappy pitches, leading to lazy pop-flies and slow grounders. He needs to ignore the headlines about himself and start being a little more selective at the plate.
  6. There's metal detectors at every entrance at Target Field, so best make sure your flask is plastic. Maybe fill a baby bottle with your liquor of choice?
  7. Sweeps are fun, but if the Twins keep winning series, I'll be happy (even if that means losing one at home against the hated* White Sox. *Are they really "hated" any more? This is just the only real rivalry the Twins have, but it's seemed to have turned "meh" more than truly "hated" since the mid-00s.
  8. Me on Tuesday, after the Twins hit two more homeruns to push their season total to 90 on May 21st: "Ok, slow down guys. You need to save some of those homeruns for later in the season." Me on Thursday, after they hit eight more: "OK, apparently you've all got plenty of homeruns to spare. Keep hitting them I guess." Miguel Sano has four homeruns in his first six games?!?
  9. Those bastards! Going to lose more than twice in one week... I just hate them so much.
  10. Can you guess which one is the real La Tortuga? Happy Turtle Day everybody!
  11. Other area for concern from this last week: runners left in scoring position. Seems the Twins aren't doing so hot with the clutch hitting - two-out hits with runners on are were noticeably lacking in the Detroit series - and is something they're going to have to figure out for days they fail to hit six homeruns.
  12. No mention/update on Goodrum delivering a UFC-style knockout knee to the head of Marwin Gonzalez in the 6th? It was a fine attempt on Niko's part to try and reel in a terrible throw by pitcher Ross, but it was a scary moment. Hearing Morneau in the booth have flashbacks to Toronto 2010 was spooky.
  13. I remember when Detroit was dominating the Central and signed Prince Fielder. This required Miguel Cabrera to move back to 3rd base, which weakened Detroit's defense on the left side but added 55 homeruns over the two years Fielder manned first. Detroit went to the World Series the first year, and the ALCS the second year. The only retort Twins fans were able to give were, "Cabrera manning 3rd? Oh boy, I can't wait to see Ben Revere bunt on him all game long!"
  14. Homer Simpson: "That's right, it's called a Flaming Hom..." Felix Olivo: "Felix. A Flaming Felix. I invented it and my name is Felix, that's why it's called a Flaming Felix."
  15. And Rosario doesn't appear to be letting this bother him. He laughed off both Reddick's diving catch and the liner to short. He knows it is bad-luck, and that has to change.
  16. Yankees are only 8-7 at home this year, and are 0-5 when playing teams with better-than .500 records. Twins are 8-5 on the road, and are 11-3 when playing teams with a sub-.500 record. I've shot past "cautiously-optimistic" and am expecting a Twins sweep (or, at worst, two-of-three) this weekend in the Bronx.
  17. Make sure you check out the rules on costumes and such. Generally adults can't wear anything that covers their face, and no fake weapons. I brought my son to Star Wars night a few years ago, and he was not allowed to bring in a plastic lightsaber (despite the fact he had gotten a full-sized wooden bat as a giveaway a month before.)
  18. Preferably a pitcher we trade for at the end of July?
  19. A 1-0 pitcher's duel may be boring for some casual baseball fans who just want to watch homeruns... for someone who works many games at Target Field, a 2 hour-15 minute game is wonderful (particularly when the Twins win.)
  20. Lefties are only hitting .160 against Verlander, with 31 strikeouts (vs. .203 for righties with only 15 Ks.) OBP is 50 points higher for righties; and .OPS is 20 points higher. I don't know if the mostly-lefty lineup is the way to go.
  21. With the smaller left-field to cover at Minute Maid, would it have made more sense to put Astudillo in left, move Rosario to center, and then keep Kepler in right? Or are they afraid of messing with Eddie's mojo right now?
  22. Tonight. Next off-day is Thursday 4/25.
