  1. The Twins are heading into the All Star Break with a 49-40 record. The same record as when they entered into the All-Star Break in 1987 (a year they also were picked to finish last or near-last, introduced a rookie manager, new uniforms, etc.) Lots of similarities. And yes, history means nothing in a sport where your record a month ago can mean little to the present standings... but it's fun to think about! Ooh... and that All Star Break began on Monday, July 13th, too!
  2. What is the latest in the season a player can be added to the 25-man roster and be eligible for post-season play (not taking injuries into consideration)? Having Arcia on the roster as a pinch-hitter or lefty power hitter against a tough righty (sit Hicks, move Rosario to center?) would be great, especially for a series where the bullpen numbers drop to get more hitters in the dugout.
  3. Finally, he has something in common with Ron Coomer!
  4. The announcers no longer call it a "rare strikeout" for Joe Mauer. Used to be you'd hear them say "You don't see Joe Mauer strikeout more than once in a game..."
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2oD8KzxS14 Here he is vs. a switch hitter in the minors (starts at about 1:10)... there has since been a rule change, that the pitcher has to indicate at the beginning of an at-bat which had he is going to pitch with, and cannot switch during an at-bat unless there is an injury.
  6. Dazzle-Man sounded really fed-up/disappointed on Pedroia's homerun call. 4-0 BoSox bottom of the 4th.
  7. I was lucky enough to go to three home games this last week. In every at-bat, Santana looked like he was swinging just to not miss the ball. There was no authority in the swing, no snap: each swing- regardless if it was the first pitch or a 1-2 count- looked like a defensive, "let-me-just-get-a-piece-of-it" swing. He needs to go down to get some confidence back in his swing, ala Vargas and Arcia.
  8. Too bad the video on the page doesn't mention the Twins, or the Astros, or any team other than the KC Royals'. The commentators' only argument is ERA... no mention of Win Probability Added (WPA) of which the Twins' bullpen ranks first (ahead of KC's 6th place ranking.)
  9. If the Twins go deep into the season still in contention, I'm forseeing a platoon at DH of Arcia and Pinto, with Hunter thrown in on occasion (which would then see Arcia back in right field.) Unless they bring up Sano, who would likely stick at DH with the above-average baseball Plouffe is still playing at third.
  10. I am sitting on the first base line for three games this week (counting Memorial Day) about ten rows behind the Twins' dugout. (Just happened to win tickets to three different games, and they're all in the same general area.) Had one foul ball land about four rows in front of me yesterday, but that was it. Really hoping for one Friday or Saturday...
  11. I was in Detroit this winter (Super Bowl Weekend) for work, and walked down to Comerica (and Ford Field, which looks like nothing more than a giant warehouse from the outside.) Even though it was bitterly cold- and we were less than 24 hours from a terrible blizzard, I'm glad I did. Lets of pictures of the concrete tigers, and I stopped at Cheli's Chile Bar for a cheesesteak and beer- both great. Made plans right then and there to make Detroit one of my upcoming summer roadtrips to see the Twins (this year bringing the father-in-law for his first out-of-state game to Milwaukee.)
  12. The fact that the Twins aren't asking the Miguel Sano try playing a different position than third at this point is still making me uncomfortable. Plouffe has earned his time at third with improved plate-discipline and defense, and - being under 30 - can help the Twins for several years still. But Sano is nearly there when it comes to being major-league ready... one of them has to make a change to somewhere, and having either DH would do neither Sano's development or the team any long-term good.
  13. No lightsabers allowed in Target Field for Star Wars game tonight. My 3-year-old son is going to be so disappointed... Heck, I'm so disappointed...
  14. That's the first lead for the Twins in 2015, first RBI for a Twins' player in 2015, and first lead for Molitor as a manager!
  15. Molitor has said he wants the players to "have fun." There were certainly a lot of joking smiles in the dugout when Mauer scored yesterday. They need to have fun and keep it light, otherwise they're going to get frustrated and... well, not get worse, because that's not really possible... but not get better?
  16. I apparently went to one of the final (as in within the last two months) games at the Ol' Met in 1981. I was born in 1980... so I don't remember. The first game I remember was in 1986. All I remember is Kirby hitting a homerun, and thinking it was really cool to be able to climb the stairs in the Metrodome all the way to the top!
  17. 20 innings of no-run baseball to open the 2015 season. A new franchise record!
  18. Santana and Dozier struck out on 7 pitches. And Mauer grounds out to third instead of second to end the top of the first.
  19. Game is on the radio. I forgot I had Gameday audio on at work, and suddenly I heard a choir in the background and couldn't find the tab the sound was emanating from. Anyone know- just because this game is starting 3hours 45minutes after the scheduled time, are people able to turn those tickets in for another game? That's more than a regular game's length to hang-out at a wet ballpark...
  20. Isn't there a two-hour rule, kind of like with the professor in college? After two hours let's just go home; we'll make it up some other day?
  21. If Nolasco can't (or doesn't like to) pitch in the cold, what good is he going to be in October? (If the Twins make it back there during his contract.) And not just here. Unless it's a Tampa Bay/Arizona World Series, at least a couple games every World Series are going to be in a cold stadium. For what he's making, he should be able to pitch underwater if asked.
  22. So... moving Santana back to center for tomorrow's game? Or wait until Chicago this weekend?
  23. It's a 6:05pm start time tonight... So no score yet.
  24. Traded Delmon Young for him in '12.
