  1. What I like about this team is how much it reminds me of the one from 2002. Young, but starting to figure it out. So much emphasis on defense, which augmented the pitching. Now we just need one stunning trade of a veteran for a starting pitcher (AKA, the Matt Lawton deal) and I think we're all set.
  2. Going into the game, the Twins pitching staff had the lowest BABIP, at .219, a full 13 points lower than the White Sox, who were # 2. You can't talk about this hot start without mentioning the defense.
  3. I'm just going to come out and say it. Ervin is one of the top two Santanas to ever pitch in a Twins uniform.
  4. I think right now the rotation hasn't really given a reason to make a rapid change. If Buxton sees less of the field, or is sent down, I think the flaws in the staff are exposed, and then you might see Berrios
  5. This is a nice sentiment and one day I also will be at 100 posts and I will not be as thoughtful about it when I get there. Also, I hope you aren't literally puking because of internet comments. If so, I am concerned for your digestive health.
  6. Byron Buxton is at the same time one of the most vital reasons the Twins are successful, and one of the biggest areas of concern. Interesting. At this point, you can't possibly bench him or send him down, so what do you do to straighten out his bat? I don't know. I can live with it so long a he doesn't take it to the field.
  7. An unbalanaced schedule means that there is asymmetry to the opponents played, and one team's 106 points may be more easily attained than another's 98 (or whatever). To that end, it doesn't much matter to me that the two highest point totals in one conference may end up playing in the 2nd round. You still have to beat 'em, whether it's in the second round of the conference finals. Also, selfishly, it staves off the late night west coast series for as long as possible. Some people have to work in the morning
  8. Rosario drew the second at about the time a Pegasus soared past with a shirtless Nick Punto standing on its back. Rosario doesn't walk a lot is what I'm saying
  9. Call me crazy, but I don't think they will lose the first 9 games of the season this year. Even a 4-5 start will make the whole season that much more palatable
  10. No matter how good or bad your bullpen is, it will be helped exponentially by a rotation that can work deep into games. I'm more concerned that the rotation still doesn't seem to have much positive momentum than I am that the bullpen is still underwhelming
  11. Kind of a tough week all around. Good thing there will be a whole bunch of opening day stuff next week
  12. Flashes of brilliance, flashes of the opposite of brilliance. Get ready to ride this roller coaster of a team full of that, Twins fans
  13. If these 5 are really a new Culture Club for the Twins, I can only ask... Derek Falvey, do you really want to hurt me? Do you REALLY want to make me cry?
  14. "2001 Cretin-Derham Hall graduate and 2009 American League Most Valuable Player Joe Mauer officially signs his eight-year, $184 million extension during a press conference at the Twins’ Spring Training facility in Ft. Myers, Florida. The contract, which locks the hometown kid up through 2018, is the fourth-fattest in major league history at the time." Literally the end of the Twins as we know them. The only thing standing between the Twins and a world series title* *Dripping with sarcasm
  15. I think we will know what kind of front office the Twins have if Justin Haley breaks camp with the team. He hasn't done much this spring, and there are probably better options, but he was also one of the very few players the new regime added. Will they be OK returninghim? Or even paying to keep him on the roster? Or will they have too much pride and bury him on the roster all year, a la JR Graham? I'm sufficiently intrigued.
  16. I think the Dozier thread this offseason basically pointed out that everyone rates their pitching prospects differently. There is a remote chance that the Twins see Mejia more favorably than we do. Generally,, I was playing devils advocate, and noting that performance is not the only factor that goes into roster building. Those were two examples. Maybe there is something mechanical they believe would be exposed by better hitters that they want worked out. I personally hope that Santiago, pitching for Puerto Rico realizes how much he misses his home island and immediately retires, never to return to the Twins.
  17. I think there were more factors are work in any baseball decision than just performance on the field. The comment about depth is key. They can keep Berrios/Mejia in AAA, where as they wouldn't be able to do so with Santiago. What do you do if Berrios or Mejia struggle or get injured, and Santiago was plucked off waivers? There is an easy solution if (when) Santiago needs to be replace. It buys the Twins some time and allows a modicum of depth they wouldn't otherwise have. Then there is the long term contract issue, especially early in the year. If Mejia is a legit prospect in the Twins eyes, with some long term potential, he will likely be kept in Rochester until they can buy an extra year of him, calling him up in May or June. Then they can dump Santiago with fewer repercussions, as well.
  18. The outfield defense will function as offense, but it is quite possible the infield defense will be offensive
  19. I see a lot of Carlos Gomez' development in Buxton. Yes, he's fast, but also, there is a lot of lean strength and the potential for power. Let his skills across the entire range on offense develop. I like that there is an open competition for the top of the order, and Buxton will be given the opportunity to be a middle of the order bat just as much as a traditional lead off hitter.
  20. i think with a growing team like this one, we should all expect all of these guys to get some run at the lead off spot. Who sticks is less likely to come down to performance in that particular, important role. Also, I always appreciate when a writer can find an image with the three exact guys he wants in the same picture. As someone who has dealt with the Getty Images lotto, kudos.
  21. Thanks for the write up. With season tickets, I find that I have grown oblivious to all the marketing efforts of the team.
  22. Not to brag, but our track coach always said I ran like granite
  23. At least that's what the Yahoo Alert on my phone said, along with 'suck it, Amazon"
  24. The Amazon cloud went down. Thank goodness I have you guys, because iHeart stopped working
  25. Say what you want about the new regime, but we are barely a week into spring, and the Twins are already in mid-season form
