  1. I would so much rather have Polanco on his rookie deal or even early in arbitration for 2019-2022 than Dozier with an extension and in his mid 30s. Part of what makes trading away Dozier so appealing is that the Twins should have zero interest in extending him after his contract expires.
  2. All right, you did say HIGHLY UNLIKELY in your premise, so I will move on. I'm not sure on prospects, but what about this? Dodgers - Urias, Trayce Thompson Twins - Buxton, Dozier, Stewart
  3. I think were Urias discussed, then Buxton and/or Sano would have come up long before Dozier.
  4. This is a really good point. The Twins new FO was in the process of getting to know their own team just as much as they were scouting the Dodgers. Those scouts going out to look at Dodgers prospects, well, there is a good chance that this was the first or second conversation they had with Falvey/Levine. And then, their first week or two was spent trying to lure Castro here. Yeah, that totally makes sense. It's taken a while, but I'm sure the two teams have actually discussed the trade way less than we have
  5. You guys, as long as Dave still has his Twitter account, I'm not ready to give up on this trade
  6. One of the biggest problems with the team in the last few years is their inability to match their pitchers with their outfield. They haven't seemed to par their flyballers with the best defensve fielders, so mediocre pitching looks downright awful. Ricky Nolasco and Vance Worley weren't great, but they were also BABIPed to death
  7. The real disappointment if this deal falls through is that we will have to find another forum to meet in, instead of refreshing this one
  8. Not only that, if your goal is to leverage Dozier into taking advantage of the Buxton Sano era, you are counting on a player who, optimistically would be MLB ready in 2021, the last year of Buxton/Sano's rookie deal. (Dozier plays 2 more years, player drafted in 2019, then fast tracked to the majors)
  9. I am growing increasingly pessimistic of a deal happening. This is just taking so long, and that just doesn't pass the smell test for me. Now, I know that the rumors and the stated desires of most Twins fans everywhere has been for a couple of pitching prospects to come back this way, but I wonder if Fernandez in LA might open the door for Willie Calhoun being included in something. This idea presupposes that we don't know how the new FO values Calhoun, Polanco, et al. Also, most importantly, that's the only positive spin I can think of, given the radio silence we've heard on this deal for a solid week now.
  10. You could build this list out of guys acquired from the Orioles. Jim Hoey can be next!
  11. I should have said I didn't necessarily endorse the opinion, but perhaps the Nunez trade is why Twins fans eyes are so wide when looking at Dozier's value? A lame duck GM traded essentially a flash in the pan for a legitimate candidate to join the rotation -- albeit at the back end -- next year. I'll freely admit that I don't know much about prospects, save for the fact that there is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
  12. I was reading the comments on today's MLBTR post, and one stuck out to me, noting that a year and a half of Nunez brought back a top #100 prospect with a 4/5 starter ceiling, but some think the Dodgers are reluctant to part with more than a top #50 prospect with a 3/4 ceiling. Interesting perspective. Never read the comments, btw.
  13. It's very frustrating that the Twins have a player that has an historic season, has a good contract and all before a massive seller's market the following offseason, but it turns out he plays the one position that only 1 contender has a hole. If nothing happens, I'll be upset about the misfortune of such a tepid market when every other factor lined up in the Twins' favor.
  14. I'm of the somewhat unpopular opinion that Santana should be on the block as well. I bet the market for Erv is more robust than the one for Dozier
  15. If the Twins do nothing and let Dozier walk in 2 years, they will be bad. If the Twins do trade Dozier in a bad deal, they will be bad. If the Twins do nothing, re-sign Dozier, they will be bad, with an expensive 2b in his mid 30s. If the trade is 1:1, then walk away. I don't wont the FO to be perceived as weak pushovers. That's bad for the long term future of the club as well, but even a decent trade, I think, is going to be the best way to turn the team's fortunes around
  16. To be fair, for some of these guys, it's not their fault that they are in the majors. No other team would let Tyler Duffey get abused like that all season.
  17. I am under the radar really excited to see how Mejia and Polanco do in 2017. If things go right, I think they could be fixtures. If there is an omission here, it's Byung-Ho Park, who also had his first MLB hit! If healthy, I think he showed me that he can be a capable bat in the middle of the lineup
  18. I think that one of the things keeping this from happening is that the Dodgers recognize that the Twins have to make a move as much as they need a 2b. As valuable as Dozier is right now, he isn't the difference between Minnesota being a playoff team and not during the final two years of his contract, and I suspect the new front office is loathe to extend a middle infielder into their mid-30s while rebuilding. In order to extract value from him in order to get back to the playoffs, he needs to be moved, and every day that ticks by is an erosion of his functional value. Unfortunately for the Twins, there just aren't any other suitors for Dozier, but there are a handful of other 2bs out there, admittedly less productive, but also less expensive while still being better than what LA has right now. There is no motivation for the Dodgers to finish this right now, and they may simply be waiting for a new front office to blink, and for the value to come down a bit. If a trade ever does come to fruition, I'll be happy with it, nearly without regard for the return, because I know it was the best one on the table, and so long as there are young pitchers coming back, there is a chance they could be on the next Twins team in the postseason. Also, hi, I'm new here, but have been lurking in this thread since what feels like the mid -90s
