1. So they have Hardy and Balfour with maybe Valencia sticking around. How many ex Twins are still playing?
2. Potentially Kevin Correia can win 34 games next year and have an ERA of 0.02. Absurdity is what it is in a thread called truth. In all of the years that Santana pitched here with a more than half empty Metrodome, there was not a significant increase in attendance to watch him otherwise the Twins would have resigned him knowing they could recoup the cost. If you are making the claim potentially people will come out to see a pitcher for the home team and not when others pitch could happen it would behoove you to have an instance where it proved to be the case somewhere in the 30 team league in the last decade or so. Otherwise my statement on Correia stands without question.
3. Did 10,000 more fans come out to watch Santana pitch on days he was sceduled other than opening days? 2000 per game more for Frankie V? There is absolutely zero historical basis for the idea there would be that great of an icrease of Twins fans coming out to watch a specific pitcher.
4. Maybe an upgrade, maybe not. 40th person on a roster. Sort of like Julio Borbon. I would rather they worry about upgrading the third outfielder, not the sixth.
5. Ad choices targets you by places you have been shopping on your computer.
6. IIRC when they hired Smith people said who is that. Returning to a former role would take one back out of the spotlught not to be heard from.
7. Length of contract is whatever the teamand player wants. Separate issue from length of team control. The player to play MLB only hads the option of that club or Japan under the terms of the old agreement. IIRC the player had to be over 30 to be a free agent from the Japanese baseball team.
8. 120 days is a long time for a sprained ankle. Not so long when you have a fracture, like was listed in baseball prospectus.

2013-05-17 2013-05-17 On-Alr 0 0 Right Foot Stress Fracture Navicular - -

9. If they come over as a free agent it is whatever they want. When they post it is the 6 years.
10. New math? One year of a contract at a bloated value is cheaper for a team than a 2 year contract. After you would have paid Kazmir 14 million for one year versus 22 over 2, what do you do the second year. Over the same time period to retain services of the player you will pay far more.
11. Ryan signed a player to be an innings eating mediocre pitcher. That is by wage scale what Correia was signed for. By what the OP mentioned in his piece, the question that should be asked is does Ryan deserve credit for not signing players? In the long list of signable players, it was more valuable to the Twins not to sign them than what he did sign. Consider the prevailing wisdom on the players signed so far this off season. Nolasco has a shot for a 5th guarenteed year. Hughes got a third year and to some extent a second. This is not what was predicted for these players. Hughes was a one year kind of contract with most queses. He got three. Ryan had to find a manner to overpay. Last year he wasn't willing to do that (Saunders). The fans will find out in a few years which way was better.
12. There are plenty of fat baseball players. You are not going to fix that makeup of the pitcher. The question should be projection of pitching ability. Upside of a 3 might not work with a pitch every 3 day person in the bullpen like Burton. Now, AAA protected means the could draft him and stick him on the AAA roster. As the disasyer pitcher that could work
13. There are quite a few player, the problem is major league talent. Nolasco and Correia are the for sures. Maybe 2 of Deduno, Diamond, Gibson, Hendricks, and Worley. The rest are Rochester Red Wings. Middle of the year maybe Logan, May, or Meyer makes it an issue. The maybe is big enough on any of the pitchers that the Twins still talk to Pelfrey knowing they still need a front of the rotation guy to go with Nolasco.
14. If the Twins don't sign or trade for 2 top of the rotation arms Hughes would have the pressure of being the Ace of the staff here. He can't stand high pressure (Yankee Stadium).
15. Starlin Castro for the Cubs?
16. By ERA he is still less than average as a pitcher away from Yankee stadium. Wouldn't that make him an expensive Correia? As far as potential goes, he has 6 years in the majors to show one good season.
17. Decisions are made somehow. Perhaps by seeing the player and assessing their skills they can make a better informed decision than by reading a sheet of statistics off the internet.
18. You can try to listen to Bonnes on KFAN in the morning. They say he is there. Haven't heard him speak, so I couldn't tell you.
19. In regards to Spanish speaking coaches from Latin America you can actually look it up http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/List_of_current_Major_League_Baseball_coaching_staffs About 13 other teams do not have coaches born in Latin America as coaches somewhere in the dugout.including the A's, and Rays,
20. But the new catchers will be better pitch framers and save 50 of those runs
21. Winning a lottery is a possibility just a very slight one. By phrasing it if it was a possibility that indicates a belief it will not happen. Save your money
22. You are assuming player performance is a constant in your fun. It would be safe to say last year almost every position player had a down year. A return to the mean would lead to better results
23. When was the last time the Twins signed an 18 year old Kershaw/Fernandez type? Bert all those years ago? Hitter wise, Carew, Hrbek, Gaetti, Puckett, Mauer, Morneau and Cuddyer did not spend a lot of time in the high minors. The Twins had a little success with those guys.
24. For that year Diamond was the best starter on the team based on performance for that year. In regards to trading the "top" starter being small stuff, would trading any of the starters off last year's team not named Gibson be much more than that?
25. No way is awfully strong. I can think of three ways 1. Not hitting in spring training. 2. Injury 3. Not working hard.
