  1. I hobe Bieber gets a judge who is in a bad mood from the night before or a clost heavey metal fan.
  2. IIRC, (IF) thre is a curious phenomenon of ballplayers taking more years over more money per year. They take the contract that nets them the most money
  3. Being a good guy is one thing, still have to be able to play at a higher level than the other player is another. It does not warrant a change when your ceiling is the guy you want to unseat. Now, if his ceiling was an Ian Desmond type numbers, I could support the notion. Thata is not Escobar.
  4. The Rays say hello. As do the A's. I do not think it is a real stretch to say the Cardinals would like to remind you they don't need the overpaying of players to get a ring. It is all about well managing your avenues of resources so as to not have to do the extreme.
  5. The article is clear on Alber's slim chance to make the rotation. There is really no need to question the validity of the article. It is a Canadian site hyping Canadian players and baseball in Canada. Not much different than any of a number of sites that hype the potential of players.
  6. There are good trades for veterans and there are bad trades. Most say don't make the bad one. Lower level prospects for decent players would fly for most people. Top prospects for 2 years of a player, not so much. I don't think you could trade just Arcia for a player who could OPS .825 for 2 years. What people say is really limited by slants taken by the reader. Nobody is against trades other than the bad ones. There is a difference of opinions on what would be a bad trade or a realistic trade.
  7. It will become fairly obvious through the spring training what Albers is able to throw and any improvements made. That pretty nuch will determine initial pecking order for call up from Rochester. Some brilliant person can look at the Twins schedule to determinee if they really need a 5th starter early in the season. If in the first few weeks it is only once or twice, then it make sense why they told Swarzak and Duensing to be ready to start.
  8. Seizemore has an OPS+ of 84 since 2010 and has been almost ready to come back since June of last year. Good for him if he makes it back, but it will not be a vintage Sizemore. It would be the shell of Sizemore.
  9. Not a bad idea to get Weiters. What is the realistic cost to get such a player?
  10. The Twins hedged their bets with both Kubel and Bartlett. Kubel may have been told things, but the cruel reality is if he does not look good in spring training, he will be a Red Wing.
  11. I am all for getting Weiters and Hardy. Think the Orioles would take Correia, Burton, Florimon, and Duensing in trade for the two? Add Willingham and maybe they might even throw in a prospect. Realistically to get one of those players start with one off Sano or Buxton, add another prospect or two from the top 10 and they might not hang up the phone. Same goes for Castro.
  12. whatever. I never mentioned Garza. You mentioneded signing Drew and getting rid of Willingham. The difference in their numbers career wise was I posted. Where you get Garza out of that I a real mystery to me. I mentioned the numbers Twins would have to post if you continue to gut the offense and trade awway the pullpen. That had nothing to do with Garza. Any further discussion on this would best be left to a PM as it will fade to petty soon. There are only 2 high priced relievers in the Twins bullpen, Burton and Perkins. And now you are up to two to three top players for fringe players and relievers.
  13. Speaking of Abrue, I think that 20 is on the old side for the rookie league but it does not make him a man amongst boys. He needs to have a couple of years where he makes a case to be elevated a another level to be considered a great prospect. That he does not appear to have a lot of IP would lead me to wonder if there has been injuries. The strikeouts look good but stat lines really don't say to what the actual talents are (the hoe they got there). I can't find a scouting report so I guess I will have to wait for a book to come that might not have the answer in it either.
  14. Duensing and Swarzak high priced? Sorry, there is no way in hades that from your comment on moving high priced parts from the bullpen that I would think it could be the arb eligible players. A maybe 2 million and 1 million dollar player are high priced? To propose shipping those players, Florimon and other moderately high priced players to the Orioles , a team looking to clear money, falls under the category of interesting fantasy GM.
  15. Holy cow, no shinola. Is there also a place for the occasional lighthearted comment ? Or does everything have to be bloody serious or sophomoric?
  16. So you want to gut the bullpen of the best pitchers, dump a guy coming off a career worse OPS+ of 98 for a guy with a career OPS+ of 98, add replacement level parts, annd add a starting pitcher. Are you still trying to lose 95 games a season, too? The starters would all have to have sub 3 ERA,, FIP, XFIP, OR SIERA and be able to pitch a complete game when the score was close for the team to even be mediocre with a punchless ofense.
  17. Isn't three a relatively inexpensive prospect book hawked on this site that would contain that information and so much more?
  18. Baer appears to be an analyst backed with numerous stats to back his case. Does he ever leaves wherever his office is would be a reasonable question. Rogers would appear to understand the nuances of the game.
  19. How do you know the Twins did hot try to sign any of the pitchers listed as they all signed before Pelfrey? In terms of helping the team beyond, only Kazmir would fit that role. Arroyo wants a 3 year deal, Maholm might be better than Pelphrey, but not by much. Pelphrey is fill in until the replacements mature. 5 mil a year is a little easier to swallow than 10 million dollar question marks.
  20. Ever notice how average pitching becomes better an a winning team. 2008 Mets and Pelfrey
  21. Thinking the Twins will carry 6 relief pitchers is a glaring error. They cannot average 80 innings each in this age of 6 inning starters. 8 relievers is not bloated when you consider total innings
  22. What would the Twin's expectations on Baker be? I can only quess they thought given his history that it would take most of the year to recover. I believe that is why they wanted the second year option. What was the expectation on Pelfrey. It is not unreasonable to think how the season played out for him was what you would expect. A rocky start, a decent middle and run out of gas. WAR is a useless number when it comes to assessing that. "A signing is either good or bad based upon what was known before the signing occured, not because of what happened after." Is not at all like what I said as I said the basis for judgement is the performance after the signing meeting what you thought it would.
  23. That is completely backwards. You sign someone for what you think they can do for you, not what they have done. The results are what makes it a good signing or not. The results are what validate your judgement. If the results meet your expectations then it is a good signing. What is known publicly matters little as there is a thing called privacy laws.
  24. Every organization has taken on players released or sold low by other teams. Look at the Twins bullpen and 4th outfielders. To use Balfour, now on his fifth team post Twin, as an example of a castoff is funny. Balfour is a case for the Twins being cheap by choosing to give him free agency rather than pay him while he was injured. It had nothing to do with the opinion that he was a worthless player. Be mindful the Red Sox also gave up on Valencia and received about as much as the Twins did.Valencia had a career year last year and was traded again. Yet another overpay by Moore or you can view the trade as a trade for bit players coming off career years. Time will tell. Valencia was a failed position player when the Twins got rid of him. To reinvent Valencia as a part time player while with the Twins would not have been an easy task. Being traded for a low minor league player and purchased should have changed Valencia's opinion of himself. Valencia is the only ex Twin the Orioles have received anything for. The rest have been released except for Hardy. Hardy is the player they have got the most production out of. That fiasco is a different debate, though some will not let it be. That any of these players were ex Twins factored into any decision by Duquette is absurd. If there is a player on the 40 man roster that the secretly covet it would be a classic sell point in that player's career. It is a situation that Ryan has done well with when selling. It is hard to see Duquette overpaying. It is an unlikely scenario.
  25. The fans down there are not into pitch framing?
