Maybe we should believe that Falvey might have a little better idea then we do regarding Free Agent targets and the level of interest each has in joining the Twins! Im sure that he wants to improve the club just as much as all diehard Twins fans would like to see. Do you really think Falvey is that clueless? Come on people the fun is just getting started in the Twins turnaround.

Pay the man! He was a major reason on why we reached the wild card game. Sano went down and he filled in beyond expectations and unfortunately Im sorry to say this but "he will have to do it again". Sano will be DH more this year so unless they move Dozier to 3rd we need Escobar.

Twins Sending Relief Messages
Twinfan & Dad replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I couldnt agree more. Last year was the year of the young hitters coming of age and this year our young pitchers will step forward. There will be plenty of opportunity for many to shine.- 43 replies

Burdi annoited to All Star status. Oh wait he has to pitch above AA and be healthy first. Four years and AA. On track if healthy but he isnt. When rolling the dice on 95mph to 100mph fastballs and staying healthy good luck. In todays game there seems to be more and more arms that can create that velocity. I guess Falvey just decided to take a different direction to 100mph. IN MANAGEMENT I TRUST!

Last season our young hitters made great strides as Falvey didnt have them on the elevator going up and down from AAA much like Ryan had. I believe the plan was the same for our young pitchers but injuries to many of them prevented this from happening. This will be the year we get to see a few of these young arms so maybe we dont need to fill as many bullpen holes as many seem to think. We also should see May and Hughes at some point and both will work from the pen IMO. Guess we'll have to see how it all shakes out.

Maybe Kinley is better than the crap we had at the end of our bullpen last year. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I dont think you can judge Falvey on these moves until the players actually are on the field and we see how they perform. Burdi wont see the field and Bard didnt throw in high leverage situations. Guess Falvey thought he could do better. We shall see!

Sano Polanco Dozier Mauer.....2017 infield and next year if Sano is not at 3rd. Dozier Gordon Polanco Mauer.....Sano shares time at 1st if able. Let me add that if Sano cannot keep his weight down he will have to either DH or play 1st when he isnt injured. If Gordon isnt moved for pitching in a trade and he is ready in 2018 then he has to play. The more Polanco hits the more he has to play. Dozier being the vet and on the last year of his contract is going to have to move to 3rd in order to allow our young guys to advance in their growth.

Can Phil Hughes Surprise Us?
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes. Cy Young candidate. Biggest surprise and comeback player of the year. Anchors staff that is the best in baseball. Fastball consistently sits at 96. Oh how I love the offseason. -
The Twins Should Be Shopping Ervin Santana
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Keep Santana and sign an ace. Santana has been the one constant for our staff. The idea of acquiring mid tier starting pichers and hoping they produce hasnt worked out so well recently other than Santana(Hughes,Pelfrey,Nolasco). If the Twins are committed to winning a true ace will be signed but we also need legitimate 2 and 3 pitchers like Santana. In my mind Berrios can be a reliable 2 or 3 guy but doesnt have the experience yet. Keeping my fingers crossed! -
Thanks for your work on this prospect list Seth. My question would be the same as Hans Joelo in that if we have 2 pitchers that may be ready to give us some starts this year plus we have May in the background, how many off season additions do we really need to upgrade the starting pitching? I would argue that Santana and Berrios give us a solid 2 and 3 in depth and our existing staff plus Romero,Gonsalves and May surely allows us to find 2 additional arms to round out the 4 and 5. Give me the leader of the staff through free agency or trade, overpay if you must, but DO NOT TRADE AWAY YOUNG STARTING PITCHING unless the offer is needed to acquire starting pitching. We are a franchise that is in need of developing our young arms and are on the cusp of something great with our young starting pitchers. The more arms you have the greater the chance that 1 or 2 of them become core parts of your staff. Starting pitching is very expensive on a teams payroll if you have to buy it but much cheaper when you can develop it.

Falvine Ready To Flex Muscles
Twinfan & Dad replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks to me that Falvey came in and wanted to see what the young guys could do if they didnt have to keep worrying about being sent down to AAA everytime they encountered a slump like Ryan would do. This approach worked well for our young hitters as we now know that they can prosper if given consistent playing time. On the other hand the approach didnt work so well for our pitching as injuries prevented us from seeing exactly what the young guys could do. Is Falvey at fault for not looking into his crystal ball and forseeing all these injuries? Should he have traded young prospects for middle tier pitching help? Knowing that we were not a World Championship caliber team I think he played his cards right. Would keeping Kintzler and Garcia made a difference in the ending to our season? I dont think so! Garcia couldnt put it together for the Yanks and we actually received a young asset from flipping him. I am in agreement that moving forward Falvey should know exactly what holes he wants to fill and has plans A,B and C to make it happen. This is the offseason that he should be judged by not last year as he let us all see what our young hitters could do. Go Twins!- 122 replies

Twins offseason grade last year: D
Twinfan & Dad replied to Doomtints's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I was in agreement with the new front office approach to resist the temptation of coming in guns blazing and making wholesale changes without first seeing what the young guys could do. Unfortunately Terry Ryan had many of our young guys on a shuttle service from AAA to the Twins and it was difficult to gauge what level of talent we had. I just wish that the crystal ball that Falvey once had wouldnt have broke so he could have forsaw all of the injuries that our young pitchers encountered. Then maybe he would have been more proactive in finding additional arms. I believe that he wanted to see what he had with the young pitchers and that is why he didnt actively pursue free agent arms. Our young hitters blossomed because they were in the lineup everyday and didnt have some old veteran blocking their path. I wonder our young pitchers could have had the same outcome if not for all the injuries. Guess we'll never know but lets hope that atleast May and Jay stay healthy this year. -
Diving Into The Offseason: A Dozier Extension?
Twinfan & Dad replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you sign Dozier to an extension then either Gordon, Polanco or Escobar has to be packaged in a larger deal to acquire more pitching. Dont ask me who what or where! We already have versatile middle infield bench people so rotating Gordon/Polanco/Dozier/Escobar doesnt make any sense. It also doesnt make any sense to have Gordon held back if he is ready. Could Polanco be used as a supersub replacing Escobar if he is the odd man out. Is Escobar more valuable to us as insurance for Sano continuing to battle injury? Whatever direction the Twins decide to go, one of the 4 has to be moved and it may mean a unpopular and highly criticized move. My feeling is that Dozier is packaged with a young asset to acquire a middle rotation arm or back-end relief arm. We are finally at the end of the Mauer contract and giving Dozier a long term deal takes away flexibility. Lock up the young guys now with 3 or 4 year deals and move on.- 85 replies

After watching the game tonight who can argue that we were even in the same class as either of these teams. Better pitching and more pitching and more pitching. We might have 3 pitchers that would even be on the rosters of the Yanks or Indians. We just didnt have the depth to compete. Next year maybe with May coming back, a front line starter addition and a bullpen overhaul we can be in the running. Position players on the other hand we can compete. Our Twins had a remarkable year and the young guns made great progress but the next step to the upper tier wont be easy.

The Falvey And Levine Machine
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In retrospect what I think is lost in the progress the young guys have made this year is the fact that they were allowed to work through their struggles without the Terry Ryan yo-yo threat of being sent down to AAA. I remember quite well how Buxton, Rosario and Polanco were on the yo-yo. In can be argued that they were overmatched at times but cant the same be said for this year also? Falvey and Co.let them work it out without being sent down. Would Terry Ryan have handled them the same? I doubt it! Maybe he would have tried Sano in RF. BRILLIANT! Give Falvey credit for letting the kids play without looking over their shoulder. -
No. No bonafied ace and weak bullpen.

My point on the Sanguillen comparison was to give an example that bad ball hitters have been successful in the past. I remember watching him in the 70's and be totally frustrated at some of the pitches he would go after. Yes he was a contact hitter but he did have his fair share of critics. Anaysts would discuss how a catcher who sits behind the plate and calls the game, could have such a wide strike zone offensively.

Isn't baseball a great game. A guy grounds into a double play to end a game resulting in a loss. Fans call for his head. A few days later the same player drives in 4 and plays a major role in the win. I love this game. Rosario is still learning the game but the fact is he may just be a free swinging bad ball hitter. Does anybody remember a guy by the name of Manny Sanguillen? Not a bad career and a guy who would swing at balls way out of the strike zone. Unconvential? Maddening? Frustrating? Successful?

Colon....Release? Trade? HOW ABOUT KEEP!
Twinfan & Dad replied to Twinfan & Dad's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
That's fair. I guess I just look at pitching a little differently. Very much in agreement that we wouldn't have Colon if our pitchers hadn't stunk and he also wasn't good prior to his move to the Twins. I guess time will tell. He was ready to quit when he had doubts about his effectiveness. I like him as a 5th starter. -
Colon....Release? Trade? HOW ABOUT KEEP!
Twinfan & Dad replied to Twinfan & Dad's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
And we have how many starting pitchers better than Colon, by stats, since his arrival? Be careful how you look! THATS WHAT I THOUGHT.
