  1. Sorry. Make that 35 in 103 plate appearances. I don't see this stat getting much better with the team Ryan has constructed. Hopefully a few Homeruns will come our way.
  2. 23 strikeouts as a team in 69 plate appearances. When you don't put the ball in play its hard to make things happen.
  3. Does this mean he can catch up with the fastball and cut down on his K's ?
  4. Part time player who is now prone to extended slumps. Ride him when he is hot and sit for longer periods when he is not.
  5. Spring training Mauer and Sano to left take some balls. Sano grab your glove and take some grounders at third, Mauer move to first. Joe hit the showers and relax Sano grab Joe's glove and man first. Lets see how this works out. If Sano is the most athletic 260 pound big man let's have a look at him all over but most of all grab your bat and mash. I am not a believer in Sano to the OF but it is what it is if Twins brass want to see what he looks like out there. I do think that as this plays out he will end up at 3rd and 1st.
  6. Hosken Bombo Disco, on 12 Dec 2015 - 2:32 PM, said: Agree. If Mauer offered to move to right field, I bet the team would accommodate him. Between Sano, Plouffe, Park and Mauer, Mauer would probably have the most success out there (or do the least damage). Park's natural position is first base, too. Just what the Twins need ... a right fielder with no power. We already have a 1st baseman with no power so why not put him in the outfield and move some power to 1st.
  7. In comparing stats for all MLB firstbasemen Mauer's stats put him in the middle of the pack. If the Twins are serious about contending they have to come up with a plan to get more production out of the position. Having him rotate from 1st to lf and some DH allows Sano, Plouffe and Park to spend some time at 1st. I guess I'm a little more optimistic on Park then some and want to keep Sano healthy for the entire year.
  8. Sano is the fastest of the three (Mauer, Plouffe, Sano), the most athletic and the one most likely to adjust out there. It's an easy choice of the three. I disagree with this type of reasoning protecting the old established and underperforming, untradeable players for our young core and future core players. The fastest, the youngest, the most able to adjust doesn't make sense. How about establishing our new young core into positions now and build around them. The days of Mauer leading this team are over and our young nucleus should be put into positions where they will lead the Twins to their next World Series.
  9. Josh Willingham and Michael Cuddyer are 2 outfielders that come to mind that were slow afoot that I can think of and I'm sure that there are many more. The question isn't how slow and how fast it's the future or the past. Mauer is at the end and Sano is our present and future. Park will will get at least 200 AB before they question their decision to sign so the DH arguement for Sano doesn't make sense.
  10. I still don't understand why you would risk a higher possibility of injury to your future star with Sano in the outfield and not consider someone like Mauer instead who is on the downside. Plouffe played some at 1st this past season so why not have Sano and Plouffe split time back and forth between 1st and 3rd? At least to start the season have Sano at 1st the majority of the time to see if he can handle it. Who would you rather see out of the lineup Sano or Mauer due to playing a position that they haven't played before? My assumption is that Sano will never be under 260 pounds and that is a lot of weight to lumber around in the outfield and risk further injury. In addition I think Mauer could play the outfield as well as Sano could.
  11. My bad I forgot about Rosario starting the entire year. I did not include Sano and Escobar due to them only playing half season. My point was that when you have the majority of your lineup prone to month long struggles numerous times throughout a season your team will never be consistent in run production. Your post was more accurate. Bottom line our hitters left much to be desired.
  12. What do you do when EVERY starter had at least 3 months of the season when their BA was in the 240's or worse. TAKE A LOOK BEFORE YOU RESPOND. Mauer 3 months, Dozier 4 months, Plouffe 3 months on and on and on. This works out to roughly 300 AB or half the season. We do not have 1 player who hits above 250 on a consistent basis. When teams individually are this INCONSISTENT you better have a pitching staff and defense that can keep you in ball games. Every team in baseball goes through rough stretches both pitching and hitting but bottom line when you can steal wins with pitching and defense you become a playoff team. Win the 2-1 and 3-2 games. GIVE US A NUMBER 1 STARTER! We have plenty of starting pitching to choose from and if we spend the dollars for a 1 pitcher (Greinke,Price,Zimmerman) maybe we can get back to the playoffs.
  13. Twinfan & Dad, on 19 Oct 2015 - 9:19 PM, said: Give me a guy who every time he takes the ball we could win scoring as few as 2 runs per game. I was referring to Greinke ERA this year at 1.66 knowing that to repeat would be a miracle. Point being score two runs and he gives us a chance to still win. So here is your 1 ERA man for 2015.
  14. When I started this topic I thought that the split would be about 50/50. When you have been burned as of late with signings such as Pelfrey and Nolasco and even with Hughes performance this year and only getting a half season out of Santana why wouldn't Twins Fans be hesitant to spend more on pitching? In my opinion the moves Terry Ryan has tried haven't worked out yet when it comes to the starting rotation. Does this mean he should stop trying and settle for what we have? If the Twins are serious about taking the next step a Number 1 is needed. Give me a guy who every time he takes the ball we could win scoring as few as 2 runs per game is worth the gamble. No things are certain but when you can sign a quality arm like this that may put you over the hump and have him pitch a one game wild card playoff or two times in a series, I say let the dice roll!
  15. If the Twins are serious about taking the next step you have to have a number 1 pitcher. Now how you get this person ideally is through your farm system but I just don't see that person ready to stake his claim. I see Berrios and Duffy ready to contribute but not as that 1 guy. Lets see if Ryan can get creative and move a contract such as Hughes or Nolasco to free up space. I think Santana has shown he can be a solid 2 or 3 guy and add our young guys to the mix we have the start to a solid rotation. The Cubs have shown us that a rotation can be rebuilt quickly.
  16. Hunter 10.5mm and Pelfrey 5.5mm off the books?
  17. Twins fans you want a stud as your number 1 pitcher that will command 25 to 35 million over 5 years even though he is 32 years old this is your guy. After opting out of his current contract I say why not. I am really interested in opinions on this one. We don't have to trade anyone and coming off a season with a 1.66 ERA give me a better option.
  18. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type=R&season=2015&season_type=ANY&league_code=MLB&sectionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1442282021610&timeframe=&position=3' Here is your link for stats on all 1st baseman. How does Mauer stack up?
  19. We wouldn't be talking about production if the salary was 12 million is my point. The only reason we are even discussing this is the salary at 23 million. Makes me laugh that some people think that team payroll doesn't matter. Economics 101.
  20. Joe Mauer is great teammate and professional. Unfortunately for the Twins is the cost at 23 million per season. That is the problem. The numbers he puts up just doesn't work out to be of great value for the salary. Nothing against Joe as a person but the numbers don't work out well for the Twins and payroll flexibility. Lets cut that 23 million in half then we might be at fair value.
  21. The premise of the post was to give TR some credit for the 1 Trade he did make. We will have to disagree where we would be without Jepson closing games. Many teams end up trading top 10 prospects for short term rentals at the trade deadline and this year TR must not have seen any other trade options that he liked. Your post just has way too many what ifs for me. Do I think Jepson is the sole reason for keeping us in the race? NO. However when you start saying what if and the probability of this happening, I'm sorry but you lose credibility. Deal with the reality of the game situations and who actually is playing. No more what if's because none of us know.
  22. Please tell the other CLOSER the Twins could use right now. Little foundation? 7 for 7 in save ops. And please don't say Fein.
  23. Could be that the Rays were not selling until the deadline. I do agree that 1 more reliever would have been nice. Unfortunately all of our in house minor league reliever options just haven't proven to be dependable. Meyer, Theilbar, Achter,Tonkin, and on and on.
