  1. Where would the Twins be without the 1 Trade TR made.
  2. Good thing he has mismanage another team!
  3. If a 4.43 ERA as a starter is the best you can do then I must respond with no way and no how to MAY as a 1 starter. Absolute lights out in the pen with ERA sub 2.00. CLOSER of the future if not next year with a Perkins trade then 2017.
  4. My point is without Jepsen we would be out of the Wildcard Race by now with the average at best bullpen we have other than May and a healthy sometimes Perkins to close out games. Whatever Hu and Tapia do for Tampa in the future has no bearing on this year and Jepsen's contribution is keeping us in the race this year.
  5. A lot was said of the lack of trades that TR made at the deadline however getting Jepson has proved to be the lifesaver to keep the Twins in the playoff hunt. Quality innings after his first appearance and with the injury and subpar performance of Perkins he has proven to be the best option along with FUTURE CLOSER Trevor May for closing out games. Give TR a little credit. A little bit of SANO doesn't hurt either. GO TWINS!
  6. With big contracts given to struggling starters Hughes, Santana and Nolasco why would any other MLB team trade for any of them until they can show they can get back on track. With that said you have to give them the ball to increase their trade value hoping at least one of them gathers interest from somebody. Then comes Gibson who right now is still better than these 3. The 5th spot has been given to Duffy to see if he has was it takes. Milone is in the rotation now simply because of injuries and to his credit has probably earned himself a larger contract for next season thus pricing himself out of Minnesota. Then we have Berrios that I think everyone is excited to see in 2016. Where then Does this leave Trevor May? I do see both sides of the arguement. Too young to give up on as a starter especially with 3 quality pitches. But big strong closers are tough to come by also. I don't see the Twins eating the contracts of our struggling starters with big contracts until they have been given every opportunity in 2016 to increase their trade value. As for our young struggling inexperienced relievers in the minors, they just aren't ready. The numbers don't lie. Trevor May has what it takes to be a big time closer and for the time being should be given the opportunity in 2016 and see what Perkins could bring back in a trade. If the value isn't there for Perkins use him with May as a 2 headed monster for 8th and 9th inning roles.
  7. Berrios and Duffy in 2016 for starters along with Hughes, Gibson, Santana or Milone. Two tough contracts to get off the books with Santana and Hughes unless they produce and can raise their trade value. May could be a great 3 pitcher but a 1 closer. The batters don't have the luxury of facing him 3 or 4 times each game. He can dominate facing these guys only 1 time each game.
  8. Trevor May has the stuff to be the next great closer. After reading prior opinions for putting May back in the rotation I have to disagree. Perkins has had 2 years of great stuff pre All Star game and then tailed off suffering from fatigue and injuries. The Time to sell on Perkins and receive top talent in return is now and let May take over as the closer in 2016. If he can't close three days in a row then keep Jepson in the role as the 8th inning and sometimes closer.
  9. Sano equals ""untouchable""!
  10. I hope May is the future closer. Perkins trade value pre All Star game the last 2 years was at the highest level. He is the biggest asset that the Twins can trade and receive top value back. I am starting to worry about his durability. Sell when the market is high. Now we have to wait and see if he can regain his All-Star status.
  11. I couldn't agree more with the impatience SOME Twins fans have have with Hicks. I do remember another center fielder we had named Carlos Gomez who played what 2 seasons with the Twins. I know that there were questions with his attitude and his production was subpar. Maybe with Hunters guidence and some patience he comes into his own and we reep the benefits with this center fielder.
  12. At 25 years of age either he is an asset or not. At this time it is not. One reason Hunter was brought back was to tutor the young guys and help them mature. Lets see if he can be the role model for playing hard rub off on Hicks. The longer we wait and not see if he can produce at the major league level the less value he has with the organization. How long do we wait. Lets see what Molitor and Hunter can provide for his confidence and hope that this final shot gives us an idea if he is an asset or not.Buxton is coming hopefully soon so Hicks value may be tougher to prove with the CF AB's used by Buxton.
  13. But getting back to the topic we need to see if Hicks can stick this time with Molitor as his manager and Hunter holding him accountable. I like your idea with Arcia in left as you need some power with your corner guys.
  14. Why wait? In under a years time Buxton will be the man and where does that leave Hicks but as a 4th outfielder. What the Twins have in center now is a joke. This is Hicks final shot before Buxton takes over.
  15. Lets see now. .280 and 18 RBI with .459 SLG. Shall we compare these stats with other mashers this team has. Please Hunter is not the problem.
  16. Vance Worley was awful as a Twin. An absolute disaster. What happened with the Pirates? Maybe we should release Pelfrey and Nolasco to get them back on track. OR maybe we should get a new pitching philosophy and coach in place. Just saying it can't all be coincidence.
  17. Please. Phil Hughes has performed well beyond expectations. Reward the man for signing a team friendly contract and being the leader of the staff for next few years. 1 more out...PLEASE. Pay the man his bonus.
  18. I thank you for your feedback as I am frustrated by the Twins starters inability to get through the opposition lineup that 3rd time without losing it. I realize that you have a very limited staff that are not strikeout pitchers and this in itself is a huge problem but nothing can be done about it. When you pitch to contact and can't get many swings and misses out of your starters good major league hitting makes you pay. I'm just looking for ways to get some more wins when we are in the game through the sixth. The 75 pitch limit is a moving target but when time and time again the same things happen in the 6th and 7th why not try something different. I too remember when the bullpen was structured so that Rincon, Balfour, Crain, Guerrier, Reyes, sometimes went 2 innings. Not saying anything about todays bullpen because they have been fantastic and once again a major strength. I just think these guys could go 2 innings and then rest for 2 days and be fine. You also have to keep on top of how they feel everyday so that you don't get overworked. Again, thanks for the feedback and GO TWINS>.
  19. In response to Badsmerf thank you so much for not freaking out when a discussion has been started in regards to losing leads when starters can't get past 75 pitches or the 6th inning without giving up the lead. Let me clarify, I am new to the board but I am not new to baseball and all I am saying is stats don't lie. Am I saying every pitcher should be take out after 75 pitches? NO! Pelfrey-YES...Deduno and Diamond have shown they can go deep and have the stuff to do it. Thielbar,Pressly,Roenicke,Swarzak,Duensing,Fien. I think we can agree on the number 6 here? The schedule usually has 6 or 7 games per week. If 3 of these pitchers had to pitch 2 or even 3 innings in an outing per week we still have plenty of arms left in addition to Burton and Perkins. Think outside the box. Last week Gardy pulls Deduno in the 6th or 7th after a hit to start the inning. It worked out in that case even though I think Deduno can throw 100 pitches and still be effective. Hopefully 2 or 3 games per week the starter can get through the 7th leaving 6 middle and long relief to get us through 4 games. Think outside the box.
  20. I guess we should feel fortunate that we are in so many games in the 6th inning with the question marks we have with our starters. If Deduno and Diamond can give us quality starts to go along with Correia who has been giving us strong outings all year and we know he will struggle sometime. Let's face it this staff is not the strongest in baseball. We need to grab wins when we are leading after 6 innings. Look at the ERA's of our starters in the 6th and 7th innings. Unfortunately this is the staff we have and they have overachieved barring Pelfrey and Worley. I'm all for stretching the starters out but when it costs wins what do you do? Get a whole new staff? Grab the wins when the starters give us quality starts. Can you say yes it is Gardy's fault. I repeat, yes it is Gardy's fault. Go Twins and hopefully with Gibson, Deduno, Diamond, May, Meyer and yes Correia the future is bright.
  21. In addition how many times have we had to go into long relief and use someone 3 or 4 innings out of the pen? Instead of using 3 relievers 1 inning each on consecutive nights, why not try 2 innings out of your long relief guys such as Pressly, Swarzak, Duensing. If they could eat up the 6th and 7th with Burton and Perkins for the 8th and 9th not bad. I agree with post on relievers getting overused see Burton the other night but do they really need to pitch every night, Just asking.
  22. All I am saying is that with pitchers such as Correia and Pelfrey that very little was expected by many, give us 6 strong innings the stats don't lie. They will give up runs in later innings and in Pelfreys case maybe quite a few early on depending on his one good one bad outing pattern. Now that Deduno and Walters are in the rotation along with Diamond maybe they can go a little longer but giving up runs after 6 strong with your starters and then ruin the quality start by keeping them out there makes no sense. By the way most Correia haters should love that he is giving us 6 strong consistently. And yes I have played quite a bit of ball in my day and coached as well so grabbing a bat and glove comment on earlier post, what is your qualifications.
  23. I don't know about the rest of you Twin Fans but I am actually quite surprised at the success the Twins have had this year as I pretty much wrote off 2013 to rebuilding until the young guns are ready. However I can't sit back and not comment any longer about the inexcusable management of the starting pitching by Gardy. If you check the ERA for Twins pitching on MLB.com and look at ERA's by pitch count you will see that from 61 to 75 pitches the Twins have an ERA of 3.43 which is 4th best in the AL. From 76 to 90 we are last in the AL at 5.57 and from 91 to 105 we are at 5.89 which is 2nd from the bottom. How many games do we have to give away before the starting pitching staff is given the quick hook. The starters get us into the 6th when the pitch count exceeds 75 and the wheels fall off. 11 games we have lost the lead after the 5th by leaving the starter in. Don't believe me check the stats. I know this taxes the relievers but right now if this make shift staff can give us a lead going into the 6th I like the chances with the relievers. Thanks for letting me vent.
