If you sign Dozier to an extension then either Gordon, Polanco or Escobar has to be packaged in a larger deal to acquire more pitching. Dont ask me who what or where! We already have versatile middle infield bench people so rotating Gordon/Polanco/Dozier/Escobar doesnt make any sense. It also doesnt make any sense to have Gordon held back if he is ready. Could Polanco be used as a supersub replacing Escobar if he is the odd man out. Is Escobar more valuable to us as insurance for Sano continuing to battle injury? Whatever direction the Twins decide to go, one of the 4 has to be moved and it may mean a unpopular and highly criticized move. My feeling is that Dozier is packaged with a young asset to acquire a middle rotation arm or back-end relief arm. We are finally at the end of the Mauer contract and giving Dozier a long term deal takes away flexibility. Lock up the young guys now with 3 or 4 year deals and move on.

Article: The Falvey And Levine Machine
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In retrospect what I think is lost in the progress the young guys have made this year is the fact that they were allowed to work through their struggles without the Terry Ryan yo-yo threat of being sent down to AAA. I remember quite well how Buxton, Rosario and Polanco were on the yo-yo. In can be argued that they were overmatched at times but cant the same be said for this year also? Falvey and Co.let them work it out without being sent down. Would Terry Ryan have handled them the same? I doubt it! Maybe he would have tried Sano in RF. BRILLIANT! Give Falvey credit for letting the kids play without looking over their shoulder. -
Couldn't agree more Seth. Nice article.

Or maybe we can move Sano to RF and Rooker to 1st in a few years. Oh wait that was we did that already. Thanks for the update. I don't blame many Twins fans for their pessimism due to the many moves made by the prior Twins braintrust. It is difficult to stay positive after the dry spell we have had. I however, am a believer in Falvey and Co. I like the out of the box thought process of the recent draft. No-one could have anticipated the long list of injuries to pitching prospects and May that we've run into this year. The glass is half full in my eyes and am excited to see what they will do in the off season. GO TWINS.

So we are going to turn the worse team in baseball around in 1 year? "Come on man" as Espn says, this is going to take time. Let's see what this team looks like at the end of the year. Just my opinion but the bullpen is the easiest fix. How about do our young want to be studs really turn into studs? In our case if the offense comes along we will be just fine! Give me a slightly above 500 year with progress with our young hitters so we know what we have, I'm fine. The young pitchers we have will be ready to contribute by next year.

I will give the new FO a pass on this one. You can't make a good chicken salad if you are starting with chicken sh##. The young guys weren't quite ready and until we show improvement What vet wants to sign with us. This bullpen will be totally turned over by the mid season mark. I am hopeful that the new FO is looking at this with the approach of evaluate as we go and then make the harder decisions. Our young guys aren't quite ready but they will be solid.

Article: Cardinals "Very Much In" on Brian Dozier
Twinfan & Dad replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sorry for the confusion. Point I was trying to make was quite simply we don't win when he is playing subpar and win even less when he is tearing it up. Our needs are pitching and more pitching. Young pitchers are hit and miss so the more you accumulate the better the odds of 1 of them being a stud. Dozier is our underpaid asset to acquire this young pitching talent. He will not be cheap next time the contract is signed and we still don't know how he performs in the heat of a pennant race. With the good comes the bad. He cannot carry this team and is streaky with a high strikeout ratio. On a good team he fits great on a bad team he doesn't move the needle. We need pitching.- 209 replies

Article: Cardinals "Very Much In" on Brian Dozier
Twinfan & Dad replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's not forget The Twins had 32 wins at the All Star break with Dozier hitting under .250 and 14 bombs. After the the break he hit close to .300 with 28 bombs but the Twins won less games. His production occurred when the Twins weren't playing for anything but roster spots and individual stats. Dozier's 2nd half explosion did not translate to wins. At times he stunk along with the rest of the lineup pre all star break. For us to say he was the best of a bad bunch is a more accurate description. If we are to move forward and put together a competitive team he must go now. I have faith in the new braintrust that they will receive 2 or 3 prospects that will be contributors in the next few years as we reload.- 209 replies

Article: Twins Designate Oswaldo Arcia
Twinfan & Dad replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just because I am on the anti Front Office bandwagon I am hoping for the sequel David Ortiz II and that it cements TR legacy. Sorry but this year has just pissed me off with a poorly constructed roster to start the year and head scratching, mind numbing, WTF desperate moves.TR assembled the roster to start the year and has shown us by the recent moves he has no plan but is DESPERATE. Tick tock tick tock time is running out TR and hope retirement and becoming a viewer of this site suits you better than pretending to be a Bottom ranked baseball executive.- 267 replies

Name 1 above average 280 lbs outfielder in the history of baseball. Frank Howard, Dave Kingman, Adam Dunn none of these guys were that big and they were awful defensively. Sorry but no way does this experiment work.

WOW! Matter of days before the recommendation from Gardy to move all 1st year players back to AAA for more seasoning. After all he had no patience with rookies when he managed. So much for new blood in the systems thinking.

Article: One Step Backward
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This team is not going to contend for a title any time soon. We should look at trading Dozier and Plouffe and try and assemble more talented youth in their return. Lets move in the direction of Huntington and the way he moved the Astro's to a solid competitive young team. We already missed out on the opportunity to move Perkins when he had value. Why keep tradeable assets so you can be at best a 500 club?- 64 replies

When you assemble a flawed free swinging group that TR has what do you expect. 7 of 9 hitters in the line-up have struck out more than the norm in prior years so all of the sudden this is going to change? Come on TR, accept responsibility for your failure in the group you have hand picked. If you can't do better then step down and let's look outside the organization for a new direction that can move the Twins and their youth to success.- 64 replies

Article: It's Time For Aaron Hicks
Twinfan & Dad replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At 25 years of age either he is an asset or not. At this time it is not. One reason Hunter was brought back was to tutor the young guys and help them mature. Lets see if he can be the role model for playing hard rub off on Hicks. The longer we wait and not see if he can produce at the major league level the less value he has with the organization. How long do we wait. Lets see what Molitor and Hunter can provide for his confidence and hope that this final shot gives us an idea if he is an asset or not.Buxton is coming hopefully soon so Hicks value may be tougher to prove with the CF AB's used by Buxton. -

But getting back to the topic we need to see if Hicks can stick this time with Molitor as his manager and Hunter holding him accountable. I like your idea with Arcia in left as you need some power with your corner guys. -

Why wait? In under a years time Buxton will be the man and where does that leave Hicks but as a 4th outfielder. What the Twins have in center now is a joke. This is Hicks final shot before Buxton takes over. -
Vance Worley was awful as a Twin. An absolute disaster. What happened with the Pirates? Maybe we should release Pelfrey and Nolasco to get them back on track. OR maybe we should get a new pitching philosophy and coach in place. Just saying it can't all be coincidence.

When will Gardy learn how to Manage a pitching staff
Twinfan & Dad posted a blog entry in Blog Twinfan & Dad
I don't know about the rest of you Twin Fans but I am actually quite surprised at the success the Twins have had this year as I pretty much wrote off 2013 to rebuilding until the young guns are ready. However I can't sit back and not comment any longer about the inexcusable management of the starting pitching by Gardy. If you check the ERA for Twins pitching on MLB.com and look at ERA's by pitch count you will see that from 61 to 75 pitches the Twins have an ERA of 3.43 which is 4th best in the AL. Fro 76 to 90 we are last in the AL at 5.57 and from 91 to 105 we are at 5.89 which is 2nd from the bottom. How many games do we have to give away before the starting pitching staff is given the quick hook. The starters get us into the 6th when the pitch count exceeds 75 and the wheels fall off. 11 games we have lost the lead after the 6th by leaving the starter in. Don't believe me check the stats. I know this taxes the relievers but right now if this make shift staff can give us a lead going into the 6th I like the chances with the relievers. Thanks for letting me vent. -

There is hope with that lineup and there will be free agents and trades that will fill the gaps. If the Twins can pitch just a little this year and start playing D again things may turn a bit sooner. I like Morneau but with that contract gone T Ryan will have more money to spend if they start to compete above expectations this year. Lets face it, 2 center fielders gone, Hicks will be given a shot to stick. 2nd base?, starting pitching? Your guess is as good as mine but if the Twins can play 500 ball to the all-star break, if we have financial flexibility arms will be available.
-
your definition of quality please. Do you really think top free agents are going to sign with Twins right now. Get real. If we spend 60 million on 1 guy then we have 3 players with bloated contracts.
-
I can't argue with that but you have to start somewhere. You can't throw money at bigger name guys and hope. Keep financial flexibility and let the Hicks, Bensons, Gibsons, and any other younger guys ready by mid year get their feet wet. Maybe 2013 will be another tough year but the foundation is looking better for the future. Add May, Meyers, Sano, Buxton and hopefully the financial flexibility will allow T Ryan to put other pieces in place.
