  1. Oof. That was not a strike.
  2. Who could've guessed that our bullpen would give up runs?
  3. I'm kinda surprised Molitor didn't come out to defend Sano there. Cuzzi has been trash all game.
  4. Gimenez for our next closer and put Colon behind the plate on a foot stool. Our ticket sales would go through the roof.
  5. Yes please. I think he has had plenty of time to prove he is not a competent major league manager, even if we're giving him a little extra leeway due to our absolutely atrocious play last year. The man has no idea how to manage a bullpen or a bench, and he has proven that repeatedly.
  6. I would like to see us trade Santana for pitching prospects and then go out and get Darvish in the offseason. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the latter is all that likely, but I can dream.
  7. No one here has genuinely said Polanco was going to be comparable to Mike Trout or Jose Altuve, and if they did then they were drunk as all hell.
  8. Inspiring great confidence in his managing abilities.
  9. "Only" need 4 good pitchers. I think you're underselling how much it would cost us to acquire a "solid, reliable, healthy" #3, a good setup guy and two average-above average relievers, barring getting lucky as hell on some waiver claim or something. Who exactly are we trading to acquire a solid #3 or a good setup man at the trade deadline? Neither of those is going to be cheap. Think about how much we'd want in return for Santana, if we were to trade him. Acquiring a good #3 and a few above average relievers is going to cost about that much. Solid setup guys don't come cheap at the deadline either.
  10. Bilateral Phalange Weakness
  11. Agreed. I genuinely didn't know anyone enjoyed Smalley in the booth. When Dick doesn't interrupt him on some of his stories, he'll talk through multiple batters without Dick getting in any real play by play or pitch by pitch calls. And it seems like he often repeats himself and just changes up the wording. He is absolutely my least favorite of all the guest broadcasters and I can't imagine listening to him for a full season. I'm not sure who i would say is my favorite, but I'm not a huge fan of any of the longer running options (Bert, Smalley, Morris). Of those three, I'd probably default to Bert, since its what I'm used to after all these years. Hawkins was decent in the games he did, but a couple games is too small of a sample size to say if we're talking a long term option. Torii was serviceable in moderation, but I know I'd get irritated with him in the long run and think he'd be better served as an occasional fill in and not a regular thing. Latroy was definitely the superior of those two. Of all the options listed, I believe I'd have to say Bert until we get a bigger sample size on Latroy. If we're actually talking about replacing Bert, I would prefer they try to get someone from outside the Fox Sports North/Twins families who has some experience in the booth and not a recently retired Twins player or one of the fill-in guys.
  12. http://content.invisioncic.com/Mnbcroto/monthly_2017_05/Picture1.thumb.png.376341b55864dd75c6c07fc4072254ad.png Saw this on another forum and figured I'd share it here. based on the URL, looks to be stats from May or updated in May for the season. Not sure on which, but regardless Sano is hitting the ball HARD. Averaging 3-4 MPH harder than the second place on the chart, who is Aaron Judge. He also is not hitting balls softly at all. His soft hit rate is sub 5%. The man can mash, he's got a fricking cannon for an arm, and he's looked more than adequate with his glove at third. I'm not much for comparables, but barring injury, I think its highly likely he's one of the top power hitters in the league for an extended period of time. And I couldn't care less if he strikes out a lot. If he keeps driving in RBIs and taking walks to keep his OBP up, his average is a non factor (to a point, obviously).
  13. Ah yes, those illusive players who hit close to .300 with 30+ home runs. I believe they are sometimes known as Mike Trouts.
  14. If you want to call Santiago a 3/4 or a 3, thats fine but the point still stands. Santana, Santiago, Hughes and a garbage bullpen aren't the kind of pitching staff that you can count on to make a strong playoff push. Could it happen? Yeah, certainly. Stranger things have happened plenty. But If you're looking at our pitching staff and thinking, "these are serious world series contenders," then you've lost your mind. Edit: Basically my entire point was our pitchers who are pitching well are very likely to regress, at which point we have a horrible pitching staff + Ervin Santana and a few middle of the rotation guys, at best. I would not want this team to be a buyer at the deadline, as that is basically selling your future for the tiny chance of catching lightning in a bottle. That is a bad trade off in my book.
  15. I haven't been watching him play, and I'm not much of a numbers guy so these numbers don't mean squat to me, but I figured some people on here might appreciate some posts I saw on rotoworld (fantasy baseball forum) about Hicks. Thats not to say I agree or disagree with the posts, because I simply don't know, but this information may be interesting to some of you:
  16. Serious contenders have lots of good pitching. We have Ervin Santana, who is a good pitcher but not nearly as good as he has been so far this season. And then after that we have Santiago, who is not that good of a pitcher and not as good as he has been so far this season. They will regress. I expect Santana will level out as a solid #2/3 type of guy, as he has been. And Santiago will likely level out to a 4/5 guy, as he has been. Beyond that, we have jack **** for pitching on our current team. Teams with Ervin Santana as their ace, Santiago as their #2, Phil Hughes as their #3 and a nightmare of a bullpen don't go far in the playoffs, if they even make the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, we have a lot of things to be happy and excited about, but it would be a huge mistake in my opinion for this team to convince themselves they're serious contenders and not be sellers at the deadline.
  17. -Sano (both offensively and defensively) -Polanco (both offensively and defensively) -Ervin Santana's steadily increasing trade value Probably my top 3 bright spots so far this season.
  18. But what if it's Joe Mauer swinging at the first pitch of an inning? Then does it offset this board's hatred of Mauer taking every single first pitch?
  19. C'mon now. The guy is a rule 5 pick who's main concern is probably staying on a major league roster as long as possible. Does anyone really think he decided to go headhunting for absolutely no reason at all?
  20. This. Big time. If we're going to be spending that sort of money on a contract it needs to be on a pitcher. Sure, there will be a lot of risk, but Brian Dozier's best season didn't help us contend last year with our horrible pitching, and its not going to help us contend in the future if our pitching stays horrible. We don't need another Mauer situation on our hands.
  21. This article is a joke. "A pitch thrown at a team’s star in response to something one of his teammates did might inspire a conversation with said teammate about knocking it the hell off in the future. Had Sano recognized as much, he’d have saved himself a bunch of trouble." So, I'm to understand that the Tigers intention was to throw behind to Sano in order to "inspire" a conversation between Sano and Haley, in which Sano tells him to learn how to control his pitches better? Maybe next time someone throws behind Sano, he should punch them over the center field fence to inspire them not to be a jackass next time someone on their team gets unintentionally hit by a pitch.
  22. I'm going to watch the Twins all season, because as awful as they have been for years, bad Twins baseball is still better than no Twins baseball. And despite all my doom and gloom, there certainly are some players that I'm excited to watch. And I can talk trash about the rest of them in game day threads.
  23. You've been giving this same, "they're looking to contend next year" spiel for like 4 years now. Unless you think they're going to sign/trade for like 6 quality pitchers in the offseason, I'm not sure how you expect that to pan out. The only pitcher on our current roster who is above average is Ervin Santana.
