  1. I think we would be better off had they contracted in 2001. We would likely long have had a new team with zero connections to the Pohlads. That would have been worth it.
  2. I have no idea why you would want to trade low on Ober. Especially if they trade Ryan or Lopez. Maybe his fastball improves. Maybe he improves his mix so batters aren't served up an 89mph high fastball so often. His control is elite and he can get swinging strikes on his changeup a lot, even with a bottom tier four seamer.
  3. I don't think this team is too far from a winning record. It would have been easier if we hadn't dismantled our bullpen, but we also shed our roster of several players that were not providing a whole lot of offensive value at positions where offensive value is expected and should be easy to find.
  4. Greg Gagne was absolutely awesome to watch. He had this odd head snap when he threw to let you know he was putting his whole body into it, and if you see images of his throwing mechanics, you can see an incredible load on his arm as he threw. He had an awesome, quick release. It was like watching Dan Marino with actual legs. Starting here on this video gives you a pretty good idea of what we watched every day. At about 5:20 it starts to show more defensive plays.
  5. Lewis never came across to me as someone who was just being a prick about his discomfort at that position. I hate to see players pay a price for being candid and transparent.
  6. I think one guy that could have ended up on the list was J.J. Hardy. He was one heck of an instinctive player on defense and had some decent hitting years. I thought Minnesota was a very good environment for him, with him being "besties" with Mauer. Alas, the Twins got rid of him in some hairbrained scheme to retool for more base path speed from the infield. Voila! he was replaced by collective disasters that were Nishioka, Trevor Plouffe and Matt Tolbert at Shortstop, none of them who were effectively any faster, even if they could have gotten on base. None of them had any business being at short. All the Twins got for Hardy was a couple "C" non-prospects that didn't go anywhere
  7. Is anyone going to want to take this job? I sure wouldn't, and I'm the proverbial bum off the street.
  8. I like Larnach as a role player. Not sure that fits with a 5-6 million dollar salary. Honestly, I think this team is about 20m from 'fixing' the offense towards something resembling league average, but I don't see Larnach soaking up at-bats at DH helping that at all.
  9. That's what I was thinking. Good range and athleticism, but if he has a major league shortstop arm, he didn't show it with that play. I'm hoping he was playing it casual.
  10. I guess I don't care who they trade away, as long as it makes it easier for the team to pass from the hands of the Pohlads. I'd give every last walleye in Minnesota to make that happen.
  11. Could he be? sure but planning on that at this point seems very premature. The fact is, there is no 'piece' the Twins could acquire at this point nor personnel decision made that settles the question of the lineup. Too many question marks and not enough money.
  12. I'm going to be one of those guys....there should be no question, Walter Johnson is #1.
  13. "The Red Sox shouldn’t have had the right to hold up the deal on this basis, and MLB should modify its rules to avoid similar situations in the future." I don't see the need. The Twins aren't victims here. They could have terminated their participation in the deal and went to the Dodgers directly if they really wanted Maeda.
  14. Bryant is still under arbitration control. There is no way he has such a low acquisition cost.
  15. Probably to commit to short term plans. In that list you have, I don't see anyone worth tying our boat to except for maybe Odorizzi.
  16. Oh....You must not remember the days when the Front Office decided to garbage pick people like Tony Batista, a guy who was not playing particularly well in Japan when the Twins decided to make him their every day 3rd baseman in 2006. That was surreal.
  17. I think you make an error comparing the fielding percentage of 3b to 1b. The hot corner as far as I can tell suffers historically the worst natural fielding% on the diamond, while first base generally enjoys the best. If Sano was a first baseman, his fld% would likely be in the 990s too. None of these options are anything approaching a plan unless February comes and nothing else has materialized. I'm personally wedded to the idea of getting Araez as many appearances as possible at various positions. I'm curious why he's not in the 3b conversation. Singing any of these guys to the major league roster would cut into his time more than anyone else.
  18. It was all a young, inexpensive shortstop with a 6.4 WAR's fault.
  19. Take a premium hitting all-star quality catcher, then add a dose of statistical regression to make him an averagish first baseman?? Sounds like a good plan if you want to battle for third place next year.
  20. What are the chances the Twins think the current makeup of Polanco at short and Sano at third is simply too ugly? I doubt they are going to get any of the premium starters on the FA market, so it stands to reason is the best way to make our pitching better is to focus on defense.. I wonder if its time to move Sano to first/DH and if we are going to let Polanco stay at short, we could have Gordon split time at second while having him backup Polanco. Luis Arráez has the better part of a season's worth of experience at third base and afaict, looked decent there for the Twins this past year.
  21. #38 for certain. I remember they wanted to trade him to Boston, he didn't wanna go. I remember the windbag sid hartmann ripping him on the air for not wanting to leave. Then he came back and resigned with the Twins that off season. Personally I would also add #7 as he was my favorite player, but that's a bit of a stretch.
  22. I suppose gone are the days of frustrating loyalties....
  23. I think I would lean towards Wright because for Green to reach his higher ceiling he would have to depend on a Twins development system that lately has not produced a whole lot of quality major league arms.
  24. and hilarious. One of my all time personal favorite players.
