  1. Rather than asking "Who put this roster together" ask "who trained thes guys to 'hit' like this?". Sano was force-fed the belief that he's a slugger and that HRs are the way to $100+MM contracts. At least he has the body that suggests he could hit lots of HRs. Park was developed in Korea--and there he was a slugger. But the rest of them? Plouffe and Dozier salvaged stalling careers with HRs from being a dead-pull swinger--and were rewarded with a regular position and substantial pay raises. Everybody noticed! It became apparent to young players: hit HRs, get a regular job and many millions of dollars. What was the "hitting development program" the minors? Whatever buzzwords one chooses to use in their defintion should include "strikeouts are OK, OBP is overrated, but SLG% is huge--especially HRs". If Ryan is replaced (fine by me) it is paramount that everyone belong him needs to go--first!
  2. Panic? No. The only way Buxton becomes a bona fide major league player--is to play at the major league level. AAA ball has not shown to develop Twins hitters. It is simply a dumping ground to park marginal prospects while cycling other marginal prospects through the system--this isn't the case. Considering Santana as a possible CF??--what? Weren't you watching Santana this season? He has no future as an OF at the ML level--which is why he is "DL". Rosario is retained at the ML level for the same reason as Buxton--he must play through slumps and develop character as he gains experience. This team wasn't all that good (why Twins generally picked as 5th out of 5) so be patient and let players develop.
  3. The Mighty Whiteies continue to show top-notch pitching! Where did that come from--Jewel-Osco??
  4. Changes required: TD posters to accept this team isn't all that good; Young players need experience--at real competition--MLB; youth needs character development--playing through tough times and overcoming failure; realization by the "young studs" that they aren't "all that" and changes and flexibility is required to succeed; and patience. Last year's winning record relieved the pressure of constant stink--use that goodwill obtained to further develop.
  5. Not long ago, Houston spent a lot less money to be this bad.
  6. Last year, the Twins owned the Orioles 7-0, and dominated the mighty whiteies. This year is off to a worse start than just 0-7.
  7. Nolasco--Staff ACE.
  8. So, when does Escobar get a statue at TF?
  9. Rosario will sit. Kepler isn't with the Twins to be Arcia the 2nd. (BTW, do we need Arcia at all?) How many games did Kepler play at the AAA level anyway--enough to get his creditials established at the level? Because if he got his AAA card punched, they don't need to send players through there for more than a week!
  10. Don't give up the ship--Nolasco is coming!
  11. A team hitting slump is not at the hitting coach's feet in the ML.
  12. The bullpen is MLB average (or so) yet the thread claims "the bullpen is bad". It sounds to me that what we have is a pre-existing opinion searching for (but not having!) facts to support said opinion. Some RP names are tossed about as if they would make a difference if they were a Twins pitcher--including the assumption that said pitcher would actually be a Twins pitcher! But, for beer hall discussion ....
  13. Yet, men larger than Sano play football and basketball. True, there are injuries (as my post pointed out), but they are part of the game--even those in the dugout can get injured!
  14. So, I guess we will be bombarded this year also after every Twins loss with half-baked rants about how someone failed an assignment--and doom is here courtesy of management. The Twins finally score 3!! Whee!! I didn't check the base-runners wasted for tonight's game--but I'm convinced the Twins were dismal in hitting with someone on base. Whoops, I forgot--that leads to the damned RBI statistic--and those are meaningless and verboten. Park hit a HR tonight! I guess the Twins have a right for some performance after spending all that $$$ to acquire him and force Sano to play in the field. Is that why Miquel is struggling?
  15. HMM, Morneau got his first concussion (in baseball) when he was beaned in the BB box. The second sliding into 2nd base, and a third turning to catch a pop-fly at 1B--(somewhat similar to what happened to Koskie though he was at 3B). So, your fears are wasted--injuries can happen anytime, anyplace. Players have been hit by balls and bats in the dugout too!
  16. He allowed both of Hughes baserunners to score. Those don't show up on his ERA (Hughes' though)--but they definately appear on the scoreboard. Alone strikeouts don't matter any more that any other out--provided the opponents aren't scoring! But when the opponents score--strikeouts are simply a red-herring.
  17. There has to be a lot of HRs to justify a sky-high strikeout rate--and there isn't anywhere near enough HRs! Either BALT has a killer staff (ugh!) or these Twins are xxxx hitters.
  18. Who'd a thunk the Twins machine would have sand thrown in the gears by the awesome Orioles' staff? Unlucky. But as many have stated it's only two games--there's plenty of time to get on track.
  19. AZZ-backwards--the better starter relieves and the better reliever starts.
  20. Duffey "needed" a third pitch? He didn't before--and this 'advice" can from perhaps the worst pitcher-development franchise in baseball (if 15 years of statistics are useful). Instead of wasting himself on what doesn't work--Duffey should focus on what does work.
  21. I think Meyer is viewed as "organizational filler". The bulk of the "up-and-comers" haven't made it to the AAA level yet, so there is need for SP at Rochester. In the off-chance everything gets "straightened-out"--well that's OK, Meyer could be used to fill what ever hole exists.
  22. How many quality pitches does May have? I don't recall May using a split-fingered FB or a curve. Yet there are an abundance of posters screaming that May belongs in the rotation! based on what evidence--a one-pitch pitcher? His Pelfrey-ish statistics from 2015? His BP stats from 2014? Give May credit for intelligence--he would not eliminate quality pitches from his repertoire.
  23. Eliminating his slider to enhance his strikeouts? The slider is a strikeout pitch. It is often the #1 pitch for a relief pitcher. At the very least it serves as a change-of-pace pitch to complement a fastball. Judging from May's one inning against Tampa we realize that strikeouts aren't everything! May recorded three K's, but surrendered two runs. The winner is decided by which team records the most runs not the most strikeouts.
  24. .179 with negative defensive value--a definite spot? No. Search the waiver wire.
  25. They have had him three years! Either they "can't fix him"--or he "wasn't broken" in the first place and the Twins decided he "needed fix'in". It seems that Meyer should soon qualify to be a minor league free agent.
