  1. Improvement! They aren't--and won't!--get to 16.
  2. How long is the leash for the "pitching prospects" in the rotation compare to the position players--Buxton, Murphy, Kepler, the OFers, etc.? Because if these guys "aren't ready" (as claimed for most of the position players) what next?
  3. Moving the deck chairs on the Titanic. Queue the band.
  4. Late to the party--did I miss much?
  5. The problem with Meyer is two-fold: 1) an everyday, dependable CF was traded for a hoped-for starting pitcher. Span represents considerable value (even more so now given the struggles the Twins have endured in CF since he left!) and a return of only a one inning relief pitcher indicates failure. Yet, Meyer has not developed into a ML starting pitcher. To say "Nuts" to Ryan's ego is naïve. He was brought back to fix the mess based on his perceived expertise in locating "diamonds in-the-ruff" for pitchers. Meyer is Ryan's "diamond"! 2) The expectations for this season were high based on last season--especially for many of most "vocal" TD posters. It was not reasonable to begin the season with the premise of using 2016 as a "rehearsal season" to build for future success. Therefore, Meyer (and others) were slated t begin in the minors while other young players were to bein with the Twins. Quite frankly I don't view Meyer favorably--I am convinced he is well behind too many others for a spot in the rotation. But I can accept that Ryan might not want to cast Meyer off yet--since he made the trade for Meyer!
  6. This forum would have exploded if Buxton was traded--even if for Trout!
  7. The teeth-gnashing is galling to the max! Meyer didn't really earn a start, but Ryan demanded that he get one--before banning him to the bullpen (or the discard pile!). There are plenty of younger, better prospects in the system than Meyer that will soon need a 40-man spot. Goodness knows there is plenty of room for improvement on the Active 25-man roster. It's time to move on and see if there is someone actually ready to help right now--if not by 2017 at the latest.
  8. When is Meyer's next start? I enjoy high scoring games.
  9. Buxton has been told from his days as a HS player that he's "the next ..."--why would he change anything? Worse, the Twins believed it also--because they almost had to believe it! The pressure to build a winner was so high that failure wasn't an option. Sadly, the Twins aren't all that when it comes to assessing and developing hitters--so they wind up with a lot of young talents that are windmills (Buxton is only one of them).
  10. I must disagree! It's only the 6th, plus Nolaso has been the most successful of the rotation and the bullpen is suspect! Your comment is based totally on the fact that he failed and not that leaving Nolasco in the game a poor option.
  11. Too many of you fail to understand (accept) that the Twins are a developing team and not a contending team--they will make mistakes! Making them in 2016 is OK--so long as they stop making bonehead mistakes after this year!
  12. Don't spot the Tigers three runs and the chances of winning improve dramatically!
  13. "Scholarship" is applied to those who hold "favored position" and therefore obtain "forgiveness" for poor performance. It is not just for veterans with contracts--no, it is typically applied to prospects, hence the term "scholarship" which is typically applied to students as opposed to "golden boy" (or something that) which is used for "established" players that receive favor.
  14. I'm more inclined to add Dozier to the list--he is far more likely to fetch talent.
  15. The term SSS is abused in this forum. True, it may take 1000+ AB for a hitter or 50+ starts for a pitcher to make a statistically meaningful assessment of that player--but teams don't have that much time to give a prospect unless there is considerable evidence that this guy is already "a success". If the success isn't evident someone else must be "given a chance". Ryan has stated several times "No scholarships", which means players must demonstrate success is a short time frame irrespective of how highly rated of a prospect. I infer that it also applies to veterans (with long-term contracts!) though I'm not certain. I expect a "step back" this year--with struggles in April. There have been plenty of teams that recovered from 10 games under .500--like the '06 Twins! I don't believe this one will, but they certainly can develop a new core to attain long-term success this season despite a losing record. But SSS? There isn't time to use this as an excuse--there is never enough time!
  16. If DET is starting Pelfrey tomorrow they are truly disrespecting the Twins.
  17. There is more than one way to interpret "not ready"--mine is: "Not good enough--period". I am opposed to "open mic" concept. The are 7 people who can make a solid claim to being in the rotation--use them! Rotate if necessary (like they are doing now), sticking with the rotation until the "injured list" is cleaned-up.
  18. Absolutely! Gibson is no more injured than I am! He is simply struggling and Ryan is gaming the system of "player movement" to try to save this miserable start. It is Occam's razor--if these new players outperform the "injured" veterans it reflects badly on the decision to begin with the original rotation.
  19. There had better be some trade(s) brewing. The OF either can't hit, can't field, or neither hit or field. There are oodles of pitchers available--and the Twins need a catcher--yesterday!
  20. Atlanta is swirling the bowl--make a trade for AJ, so he can get his 2,000 hit in a Twins uniform!
  21. I bet they could reacquire Aaron Hicks "on the cheap".
  22. How many times did they strike-out today?-and people are talking about defense?? PS: Mauer isn't the problem.
  23. Hicks hasn't "performed" in NY so...
  24. The problem as I see it is that fans had projected Buxton to be the next HOF CF for the Twins--and the early results are disappointing, causing the fans to appear as "hopeless homers". So, now some are lashing-out--"rushed" to the majors, poor coaching, and virtually every excuse ever used to describe a player who disappoints the fan. The Twins have traded all of the other CF options (the return from these trades belongs in a separate thread) so now it's time for OTJ training (and proving). It's less painful to just "rip the band-aids off".
  25. Why would he change? The Twins have rewarded him handsomely for batting exactly this way. The rest of MLB will add considerably more money if he maintains his SLG%--especially with the HRs.
