  1. Mark Marquess - longtime coach at Stanford - told his guys that if they hadn't established themselves in the majors by age 24, they should think about what they will do after baseball. Clearly a rule of thumb, and maybe shaded by what a Stanford degree is worth in the world.
  2. 22/25 April games in the Midwest? I know there are some open days, but I would guess a handful of rainouts.
  3. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of GM bingo going on. "I need Adrianza and Colabello to win..." This is the middle earth of AAAA players.
  4. Twins DFA Michael Tonkin to make room for Adam Brett Walker.
  5. I keep thinking that if Vielma can hit a lick, he will be the shortstop and Gordon will be the second baseman. And that we will be solid (perhaps even elite) up the middle for several years.
  6. Could we simply forfeit these last few games? Just take home the mitts and bats, hire the new guy, and start it up again in February? This is worse than watching Sam Deduno and Jamie Carroll...
  7. and possibly why gibson has had such a pedestrian year.
  8. Molitor deserves a bonus for maintaining somewhat of a straight face during this scheisse show.
  9. Four prep guys. Help from the first two rounds will likely have to wait until 2022.
  10. Gordon may be tailing off a bit simply because of the huge number of premier shortstops on the list. Lots of time before it matters.
  11. Just finished reading it. Best one yet - great job gentlemen. Especially liked the organization of the player profiles, the Killebrew write-ups and "The Chase" chapter. As fans, we're lucky to have you.
  12. We are lucky to have Seth as a Twins Daily prospect guru. To understand the Twins, you must understand the minor league depth chart - it informs everything they do. I look forward to buying and digesting this year's handbook.
  13. Great article. Feels like a good number; I think that last paragraph is important. Will he end up more Miggy or Pablo (though Pablo got paid as well).
  14. Relievers were the Moneyball surprise this year. This gets magnified by free agency, where the winner overpays. It disappoints me little that Ryan chose not to sign anyone. If the Twins are in it come July, relievers will be much cheaper. And the controlled arms in the farm system will sort themselves out. This is at most a win over the course of a season.
  15. One thing to keep in mind is how right-handed the Twins starting pitching is - might be a little less exposed in left.
  16. From what I've heard, scouts get yanked around a lot and are paid little. Good to know that someone with a lengthy track record respects the organization.
  17. My reply, posted on BP This article seems to be a more egregious example of driving a car by looking in the rear view mirror. The Twins had an enormous hole in their farm system for starting pitchers. They had a fan base and a new ballpark that deserved something better than Liam Hendricks and Samuel Deduno. Table stakes for a #3/4 starting pitcher is 4 years, $50 million. If the answer is more youth, you wouldn't have your hypothetical case of still being in it in September.
  18. One thing to keep in mind is the uncertainty around the CBA, which expires next year. While I doubt it results in any major changes, it might make it harder to do something before 2017. One thing working for a deal is that Sano's agent (Rob Plummer) has bootstrapped his way. He also wants money sooner rather than later. I suspect they will both want to have the Twins guarantee his controlled years. Doubt they will sacrifice any years of FA.
  19. good recognition. he's 21. he is an elite defensive shortstop, the best in the twins system. my guess is that he will be a starting shortstop for someone in 3-4 years.
  20. It might be a bit early, but I would think Vielma will be considered. I want to see if he can continue to hit against better competition.

  22. Nice in several ways. Wonder what was troubling #12 in the first photo...
