  1. I agree that Albers seems to have earned a chance, but I'm wondering if, according to the Twins FO logic, Hendriks has earned another shot? (Which I would like to see.) On a related note, while I am optimistic about the future with several stellar prospects coming up, the recent history of lousy handling of numerous debuts (Arcia, Hicks, Dozier, Parmelee, Hendriks), maybe I should have more pessimism.
  2. Joe Benson sure picked the wrong time to have a lousy start to the season. He could have gotten a ton of ABs in the Twins OF this season, if he could have held on for just a couple of more weeks. How long will Hicks need to be down in order to get another year of service time?
  3. I definitely would not be surprised, but I would be disappointed. As for Morneau returning next year, that also wouldn't surprise me, nor would it disappoint me. The surprise I am hoping for is Colabello turning into a multi-year asset.
  4. It sounds like you have a mole in the Twins' war room!
  5. John, you sound reasonable, but it feels like you are parroting the company line here. Are Feldman, Crain, Veras, Downs, Hairston and Soriano any more "tradeable assets" than Duensing, Burton, Doumit, Pelfrey, Fien, Willingham or Morneau, let alone Perkins? This season is lost, and it's the third straight 90+ loss season. It seems clear that acquiring any kind of pieces that could help in the future should be the goal. And while the Twins brass has said they are in "sell" mode, it sure doesn't seem like it...at least not in comparison to several other sellers. Maybe Ryan is "working the phones" and saving all of his really big moves for the last 24 hours.....but I am skeptical...
  6. That's the line I am setting for the number of Twins who are traded away before the next 24 hours elapse. I was going to set it at 1.5, but I think this line is more, well, in line. What have you got? Over, or under?

  8. I'd happily call it a knuckleball, if that is what it is. Here is a dumb question...how in the hell does pitchFX figure out how many RPMs a ball makes? I get the break calculations...
  9. The market for Perkins is drying up because the Twins are rejecting all suitors...who are now going elsewhere for relief help. That seems pretty clear. At this point it seems like it would be stunning to see Perkins traded. It's fun to talk about what he might net, but it just doesn't seem likely at all.
  10. Interesting article. The thing that jumped out about it was how passive the Twins appear in the process. Not calling, but waiting to be called. Hearing from a scout that another scout says they like this player, and then going back and telling that scout that they should call us. Using the press to float names as trade bait, and waiting for calls after the name appears on Trade Rumors. Waiting until the All Star Break down 10 games before knowing your season is lost. Discouraging depiction, in my view, but not totally inconsistent with what my perception of their approach has been...selling low, waiting too long, not aggressively pursuing deals. I'm trying to think how Span and Revere fit into this narrative. I honestly think both were driven by the other teams.
  11. Nice piece, as I hadn't thought about this. I've thought that this strategy of trying to turn college closers into viable starters is a great way to find low-mileage college arms, that might have been pigeon-holed as relief pitchers, and thus under priced. But actually developing them into starters takes a lot of work, and you make a good point that they should be cautious. The Guitierrez example is a good one to learn from, hopefully.
  12. I personally would like to have any of Garza, JJohnson, Lincecum or even Hughes pitching for the Twins for the next few years. Especially Lincecum or Johnson.
  13. Don't the Dodgers have something like 8 starting pitchers? I'm with Ruesse and the rest of the board on this...take a shot at someone like this rather spend $10mm each year on the Livan Hernandez, Ramon Ortiz, Mike Pelfrey, and Kevin Correias.
  14. Hmm...when is NB next in Bowie?
  15. Thanks aj, for the time it must take to stay on top of the forums. You are right that we should never assume. I specialize in misunderstood sarcastic posts. My philosophy is that you can be a fan in whatever way you want...a fan of grit, getaftericism, a fan of every single victory, a fan of the player with the most RBIs or Wins or WAR or lowest xFIP, or a fan of the fewest wins in 2013 as possible so the Twins might get Trea Turner or Carlos Rodon so that the Twins might win in 2015 or 2016.
  16. To this point, a recent Heyman post puts the Twins in the mix for Gonzalez, and quickly says "he's too rich for them.". Why even bother!
  17. This is some excellent analysis.
  18. I'm joking. I got slammed the other day for expressing an interest in the Twins securing as high a draft pick as possible for 2014. I had no idea there was already a thread with three pages of comments devoted to next summer's draft. In my opinion, this has been an entertaining season, watching the Twins accumulate more and more top minor league talent. I'm hoping for a Perkins trade and a high draft pick.
  19. If you people were real fans, you wouldn't be watching the (draft) standings, but instead be rooting for Twins victories.
  20. I was thinking Perkins+ Morneau + Berrios/Harrison/Kepler. I think Jeremy posted that the Rangers are hoping for Giancarlo Stanton. But I would think that if Terry Ryan calls up and ask what it would take to get Profar, there would be a mon-Buxton/Sano answer.
  21. This. Compelling argument to keep him, he may turn into a long term, valuable asset. If he keeps improving his control, he could become pretty good.
  22. Nice to see Wimmers back. Hope he can make a good comeback.
  23. Honestly, all four of those guys look intriguing to me. Maybe TR finds a way to get three of them? I'm still trying to think of a non-homerish, reasonable sounding trade for either Jurickson Profar or Starlin Castro.
