    I actually thought the Twins were going to take 2 of 3 in Yankee stadium this weekend. Because baseball is strange like that. Could still happen. But the strikeouts arent a great sign.

    I liked the humorous tone of this piece. Story for Perkins sounds good to me. Or Story/Butler for Perkins/Morneau? Unreasonable?

    One thought on Perkins. The fact that he has been spouting off sabermetric stats...doesn't that sort of make him persona non grata around the Twins organization? Might be a reason to think he might actually get traded. Anyway, pretty amazing turnaround in a few years; from feuding with the organization over service time manipulation, to assumed to be traded for peanuts...to most valuable trading chip (or close) at the deadline--with the Twins brass apparently very resistant to the thought of trading him. Pretty big circle there.

    Castro is interesting, and I hear he could be available. The issue is that the Cubs are in rebuild mode too, so it would take prospects (likely a stud pitcher as the headliner). If Alex Meyer were healthy, he would probably be the only one that fits that description. I don't see the Twins going that route. Well, here's hoping Stanton doesn't become available. Sounds promising that Castro could be available; you'd think with the strength of the Twins farm system, Theo would be interested. As for pitching prospects in return for Castro, what about May or Berrios? They'd have to include more, such as...Jorge Polanco? I know that in general proposals such as these underestimate what would be required, but two top-10 prospects might be enough?

    Great piece, Jeremy. Like the last point about needing to learn to be sellers. Selling Perkins is an oppurtunity that shouldn't be missed. I would happily endorse any top 50 prospect return for him. As for the Yankees, how about TJ sidelined Manny Banuelos as a piece? Second question. Long-shot targets: Jurickson Profar or Starlin Castro. Obviously very unlikely, but what might be a package that could possibly net one of then? (I was thinking Morneau/Perkins/Top 15 prospect like Harrison?)

    I don't think anyone is arguing that high draft picks guarantee playoff victories. But can we agree that having better players on your team improves your chances of making the playoffs? I'ved lived in DC for the entire Nats existence. The first several years were brutal, and it was the two years that they got the top picks that landed them Strasburg and Harper.

    First of all, kind of harsh. And second, I've said before that I think Colabello could be a valuable part of the team for 3-4 years, as a DH or 1B. The only way to find out if he can actually hit like he has been hitting this year, is to give him a shot in the bigs. And what better time than during a 90+ loss campaign?

    I don't get the indignation over this thread. Anyone on this thread rooting for the team to lose over the next couple of months--when we all perfectly understand they aren't going to the playoffs this year--is rooting for the Twins to win a World Series in the years ahead. The best chance they have of winning a World Series is to amass as much young talent as possible. So I'll be cheering for trades for prospects, Marlins and Astro and White Sox and Brewers victories, and yes, Twins losses. I also want the young guys to get their chances, knowing they will be trying their hardest to play well and establish themselves...Parmelee, Plouffe, Gibson, Hicks, Arcia, Colabello, Tonkin. But I am not going to mind them losing (here's looking at you Correia, Pelfrey, and Diamond...) this year. The future is bright.

    Having an elite hitting catcher is a huge advantage for the Twins, and his ability to hit for average and get on base at elite levels isn't going to decline quickly. I'd suggest focusing your energy advocating for more useful, and more realistic trades, like Morneau and possibly Perkins.

    Liriano could have made the team as well. For Johan the Twins got two All Stars--Gomez, turned into Hardy. Too bad the Twins chose Nishioka.

    I honestly think Colabello could be the Twins DH or 1B for the next several years. He hits, and he hits for power, and he draws walks.

    I think the Twins are hitting their stride; in 8th place for the top draft pick, and falling out of contention enough to know that they should be trading away veterans this month. A couple of good months and then can position themselves even better for 2014-2015-2016.

    As for the question at hand, I would love to see the Twins trade for a SS (from the Rangers, although I would think Profar is impossible), or target a couple of Venezuelan SS July 2. Man, that Hardy mistake is haunting the Twins organization for years.
