  1. 3:1 GO/FO ratio for Phil, that's, good, right? Twins need a crooked number.
  2. I think it's time to start a winning streak.
  3. Nice write up. Let me fix one line for you: I mean, how many holidays do they get up there, eh?
  4. Toronto has been doing the :07 start times for years. I think they think it is cute? Anyhow, I am calling a four game sweep and Twins atop the wild card race by Thursday. Also, stick a fork in 'em.
  5. It seems to me that TR could have easily gotten someone at least as good, if not better, than Jepsen a couple of weeks ago for a similar price. Like, during the All-Star break.
  6. The TR mantra--aim for mediocrity, and there is a good chance you will succeed!
  7. Touché. Shields put up 7.4 WAR for KC in two seasons. Myers didn't do much so far (but still could post more than 7.4). If the Twins trade Sano, people would flip out.
  8. The headlines for the Twins on MLB.com...Molitor says upgrade "not a necessity"....Ryan "open to trade, but won't force it." Hmmm, not hard to see what the expectations are being lowered to here. I guess the over-under should be set at 0.5, and I am leaning towards the under.
  9. I think the Shields-Myers trade comparison is a pretty bad comparison. Myers was a top-10 or top-5 prospect, and Shields, who is good, bad not great, only had a year and a month left. Tulo is the best player at an up-the-middle position, with five years of team control. People criticized that Shields trade because it was lopsided. If Terry Ryan traded Miguel Sano for 1.5 years of Jhonny Peralta, they would criticize that too.
  10. Escobar is not better than him. I don't think there is much of a comparison. Cheaper, yes. Castro averaged 310 in the minors, and hit over 300 as a 21-year old. Last year was Escobar's only decent year hitting-wise; majors or minors included.
  11. This kid is in his sixth full season and he just turned 25 a few months back. He has posted three seasons of $20mm value already, including three seasons of 750 OPS. His statistics compare favorably to Carlos Gomez through the same age (Gomez hadn't OPSed above 700 until he turned 26). And I am sure we can all remember some of Gomez' boneheaded moves. I think this could be a nice buy-low opportunity. He could put up some 300/350/450 seasons in the course of his contract. Players who hold their own at 20/21/22 frequently turn into very solid players as they age. I think it is worth more consideration than people are giving it.
  12. Ok, he isn't Tulo, but the Cubs - and Cubs fans - are hoping to ship Starlin Castro off in a trade deal. He's having a bad year, but has posted three seasons of 2.5+ WAR already and hasn't hit his prime years yet. He's got a multi-year contract through 2019 ($7/$9/$10/$11). I don't think he'd cost much in a trade - his value is down. What do people think, and what would a realistic cost be? I'd be in favor of a trade...maybe for a couple of low-teens prospects, perhaps? Maybe something along the lines of Hu and Lewis Thorpe?
  13. The MLB highlight is titled "McCutchen's Little League Homer." Sheesh. What a demoralizing few series.
  14. If the Twins stand pat, I will be disappointed, but not surprised. Last year, Ryan extended Suzuki instead of trading him, and shockingly, he reverted to his established career norms. Terry Ryan is just way too conservative for my taste. I feel like the Tulo opportunity was a huge miss...one that only comes along very infrequently. Honestly, I am half-expecting that he will find a way to sell low on Plouffe....and then Sano will wind up ending to move off of third. People are joking about a Torii extension...but I could see it.
  15. I was saying in the next 4-8 years, not excluding the first three years.
  16. Polanco, Diaz, and Minier are all very high there. Diaz and Minier in particular, as corner guys forever away from the bigs...hard for me to see their likely path to a valuable season. What makes you so confident in them?
  17. I am not so sure about Santana or Polanco as having big upside, but maybe I am wrong. Stewart is a big question mark right now, but I think his pedigree still indicates some real upside left--but certainly no sure thing. Jay, with the lack of track record starting falls into the same boat for me. Maybe May and Santana should be in my top twenty instead of Jay and Stewart, not sure.
  18. Yes, Ervin is ranked four, in my opinion, Danny not ranked. WAR is a counting stat, so time on the field counts. And position matters a lot. CF and SS get bonuses for position difficulty, whereas DH gets less. It's why I think Sano has more uncertainty. If he is good at third, he can put up big seasonal numbers. If he is at DH, he will not get as high WAR counts. I should clarify--I am looking for the highest single-season WAR by each of these players.
  19. I know that there are tons of prospects lists each year, and BP does a "top ten under 25" list each year. But here is a slightly different way to ask the question of how the full system--including major leaguers--stands. How would you rank the system in terms of "upside"...and by upside, I mean, the biggest, most likely potential to post the biggest WAR in the next 4-8 years? The reason I ask is that I think this is the valuation that should be used when evaluating trades. It would take some research, but here is my gut thinking on it. Would be interested in others' thoughts. 1. Buxton 2. Dozier 3. Hughes 4. Santana 5. Berrios 6. Sano 7. Plouffe 8. Gibson 9. Gonsalves 10. Meyer 11. Hicks 12. Gordon 13. Mauer 14. Stewart 15. Rosario 16. Jay 17. Kepler 18. Polanco 19. Arcia 20. ABWII Others?
  20. 3-6 vs As, Angels and Yankees. Meh. Maybe better next week.
  21. There is the fastball Sano was looking for....97, low outside corner. No problem!
  22. 9 outs left to score 7 runs. Whaddya say, folks?
  23. Feeling like it is getting harder to get Tulo for that Gibson-centered trade now.
  24. See, folks? The guy is pretty good. Would be around for another 3 years, too...contract runs though 2018 for 23/year.
