  1. I wince everytime Phil throws a FB...I keep thinking he's gonna get smacked around badly! Buxton=Hughes' baby Jesus...
  2. Hughes at 89-90....no bueno...he's getting lucky on a cold, windy night. I bet guys start straightening out some of those pop-ups and they turn into frozen ropes come late April and early May...
  3. I'm just super impressed that the beer hasn't spilled!! How the heck did you get it not to spill while it was on its side like that?!
  4. I think bighat is right. I love Kep's potential, but, I think he struggles this year. Something like 245/315/400. He's gonna be good, but, not this year.
  5. As meaningless as ST numbers are...how has Wimmers looked? His meaningless numbers look good!
  6. I know Castro hasn't caught all ST innings, by far, but, it seems like the Twins have pitched better this spring. Excited to see what this season brings!
  7. Depending on how 2017 goes, I think Pineda shoukd be the target. He's youngish and peripherals look good. His price may be kept down by the fact that he hasn't been too good. Could be a great replacement for a Santiago or Hughes type in the rotation.
  8. Just sign as much talent as possible. This year's international signings will take 4-6 years to arrive to the Bigs anyway. If they both stick at SS, slide one over to 3B and you have a potentially HOF left side of the INF for a decade (if you can afford to keep them both). PLUS, you would have another huge, veteran, Spanish-speaking bat at 1B in Sano who can mentor those youngsters. Its only a win all the way around (if you can afford to keep them all).
  9. Oh by the way...Garver went 4-4...dude is hitting .385 (in just 39 ABs, so SSS). No love for hitter of the day?
  10. Bye to Plouffe, Santiago, and Milone. 3 spots. Next.
  11. I don't think you trade this guy. I think the Twins should consider making Mauer a part-time player next year and roll with Sano at 1B part time, 3B part time. Polanco starts at 3B primarily and maybe gets some time in at SS. Keep the offense rolling, let the young guns and flame throwers work their way onto the MLB staff. Resigning Dozier for a 3 year deal or extending his current contract/restructuring cur re nt contract might even be smart. Sign him until his age 32 season. His Veteran presence is worth keeping around.
  12. Would love to see Park and Palka....but where the heck do they play? Unless you sit Mauer and Vargas or Rosario...but 2 of those 3 to sit would have to happen. New lineup: Polanco SS Kepler RF/LF Sano 3B Palka LF/RF Park 1B Vargas DH Dozier 2B Suzuki C Buxton CF Power in 2-7 Slots...lots of Ks...but wow...
  13. Have Polanco start at SS in AAA until Nunez is traded. See if he can improve with his glove. Once in the bigs, rotate him between 2B, 3B, and SS, supplanting Santana as the new Utility guy. Santana should be moved, too, and replaced with Rosario. OF of Rosario/Buxton/Kepler/Grossman is the way to go. INF of Sano/Escobar/Dozier/Mauer with Polanco getting reps at 3 INF spots. DH should be Park or ABW (or Palka...I like his LH power bat). That alignment sets us up nkcely for next year. Pitching is a whole other story!
  14. Based on his Minor League stats, by getting his walk rate to 8%-9% his OBP is around .430 and his average jumps to .340. I'm sure those would normalize a bit over the couse of an entire season (as those adjusted stats would be based on just 89 AB). With his speed he can certainly be a 280/340/450 kind of guy; that along with his level of defense, that's a nice guy to have on your roster.
  15. Rosario needs to learn to take a walk. If he can get his walk percentage closer to say even 8%, then he's learning to be more patient and wait for his pitch some. His MLB walk rate this year is 2.6%. Even a moderate increase to 8% would be a huge indicator that he's seeing pitches, having (and executing) a plan, and getting more pitches he wants to hit. It seems like a lot of young hitters have this hyper-aggressive approach withing the Twins org, especially once they hit MLB. Maybe this is a little bit of a coaching issue, but, its seemingly systemic.
  16. I think the decision to start Duffey in AAA has everything to do with 3rd pitch development. Nothing more. Nothing less. This was the right move. Lets see what Nolasco can do as he's looked better as Spring Training has progressed. Come June 1 things will begin to look more clear as injuries and failings happen. Maybe Duffey never really develops that Change and becomes a dominant pen piece (probably not, but look at hiw they're utilizing May). Maybe Milone stumbles for two months? Or maybe he mows lineups down like a professional lawn service? Maybe someone gets traded? The point is, the Twins have QUALITY AND QUANTITY! About 8-10 QUALITY Starters that have demonstrated the propensity to get the job done and keep the team in games. It's time to smile and enjoy this folks!
  17. My money is on Gonsalves and ABW. 2nd Tier would be Burdi and (shocker) Mitch "Yes, I play Catcher" Garver. Maybe my feelings on this are less fact-base, and more hunch based..but whatever.
  18. To start the season: Dozier Escobar Mauer Sano Park Plouffe Rosario Murphy Buxton By July: Buxton Mauer Sano Park Plouffe Dozier Rosario/Kepler Murphy Escobar If Plouffe is traded: Buxton Mauer Sano (3B) Park Kepler/Arcia Dozier Rosario Murphy Escobar
  19. To start the season: Dozier Escobar Mauer Sano Park Plouffe Rosario Murphy Buxton By July: Buxton Mauer Sano Park Plouffe Dozier Rosario/Kepler Murphy Escobar If Plouffe is traded: Buxton Mauer Sano (3B) Park Kepler/Arcia Dozier Rosario Murphy Escobar
  20. Milone gets tendered then traded before July deadline. He will probably start the year in the rotation if he's not traded before then. No reason to not keep him. Someone will get hurt and/or off to a slow start. Here's a list of SP quality in the Twins' system (not in order of talent): Hughes Santana Gibson Nolasco Milone Duffey May Berrios Meyer Dean Rogers Graham Darnell Gonsalves (dare I say he may be on the cusp, al la Berrios 2015?) Point is not all of those guys are SP on a contending team. However, about 10-11 are. It seems like you need about 2 full rotations worth of SP depth to serously compete in a 160 game regular season and potentially another 20 game playoff season. What's great about the Twins' depth is that they actually could trade one or two of those listed above to plug other holes if and when they come up during the season. Also, as mentioned on this thread, not all of those guys have proven they're ready to roll on opening day 2016 in a MLB playoff contending rotation. Give those guys a month or two and see what is needed around late May/early June. Maybe at that time there is a surplus of arms and the Twins get some serious value for one or two of them.
  21. Here here! Honestly, I don't want to see anyone like Nunez or Escobar or Danny Santana in the outfield again. If that means an OF of Rosario, Buxton, Sano, Arcia, and Kepler then great. Infield of Plouffe (Sano), Escobar (Santana), Dozier (Escobar), Mauer (Park, Plouffe) looks pretty good to me. Suzuki and Murphy catching. I'd say we're set with those 13.
  22. With the way the AFL pitchers pitched in the AFL, I think its time to move on from guys like Fien. The Twins have young OF depth that should be given a shot before they put Santana in the OF ever again. You can also probably let Nunez go...especially if Plouffe is not dealt. So keep Plouffe, Jepsen, Escobar for sure. Milone for me is a bit of a "on the bubble" guy. It seems like the Twins have better SP candidates ready to take over not to mention the surplus of Veteran SP arms that will probably soak up most of the SP innings to start the year. Frankly, a SP Rotation of Santana, Gibson, Berrios, Duffey, May would be wonderful. But you have to put Hughes in the pen (which may be a good move). Obviously Nolasco is on the outside looking in, but what do you do with him? Realistically, I think we're looking at Milone as a trade candidate (thus, offered arbitration). Rotation of Hughes, Santana, Gibson, Milone, Nolasco. AAA Rotation will be Berrios, Duffey, Rogers, Meyer, Dean. MLB RP: Perkins, Jepsen, May, Cotts, Fien, O'Rourke, Pressley. Stud RP will stay in the minors until those last four pitchers listed begin to falter in May/June.
  23. Is that really his AAA slash?! If so, that's a terrific signing!
