  1. Klaw had Meyer, Burdi, and Reed in his top 10 relief prospects. And Chargois is basically at the same level as those guys.
  2. The author also makes it sound as if Sweeney can play CF, which he can't. He's got about a 5% chance to make the team.
  3. I really wonder why the Royals have continued to push Mondesi up a level per year even though he hasn't hit at all. It'll be interesting to see if this hurts his development in the long run.
  4. Andrelton Simmons may be one of the best defensive shortstops to ever play, am I right on that? I think a better comparison would be like trying to justify having a Brendan Ryan type of player in your lineup. Very good defense, but nothing with the bat, I think there will always be better options than that.
  5. Vielma has a .631 OPS in the minors compared to Simmons' .749. I would be surprised if Vielma could produce better than that .631 facing MLB pitching.
  6. No matter how good of a fielder Vielma is, there will be better options than him at SS. I can't support having a guy who projects to have a low .600 OPS having a regular starting job.
  7. Totally agree. The bench is brutal right now. I think it would be good if LaVine sits after about 5 minutes, and then he can play with the second unit in the second quarter. Smitch still puts all bench players on the floor every now and then, even though that should never happen.
  8. I'm a big Jorge Polanco, fan, mostly because he can really hit. The reports that I've been reading on top prospects lists this offseason also seem to be indicating that he can handle playing shortstop, which is contrary to what has been said at other times. The only other guy from the list is Nick Gordon, who looks like he should be able to do everything above average besides hitting for power to this point. Vielma can't hit and Palacios might not be able to stick there defensively, but I'm really looking forward to what he does offensively in a full season this year.
  9. You mean like he has throughout his minor league career?
  10. Judge had under an .800 ops last year as a 23 year old in AA and AAA with 155 strikeouts. He's a physical freak, but I'm not sure he's going to tear up the majors this year. Part of this negative comment may have to do with how I feel about the organization he plays for...
  11. I'll take Byron Buxton as my pick. I'm hoping for a .270/.330/.400 with about 12 HRs and 40 SBs.
  12. Great comeback win for Brad Keselowski in Las Vegas today. And with some really interesting weather out there too.
  13. Just saw another interesting note on twitter by Jon Heyman about the surprising value of the Desmond contract. Desmond signed for just $1M less than what 37 year old Chase Utley signed for, coming off of a .629 OPS season. That QO really hurts those second tier free agents.
  14. McCutchen had a .785 OPS in the minors compared to .884 so far in the majors. Buxton has an .872 OPS in the minors. It will be tough for Buxton to match McCutchen's .836 OPS as a rookie, but Buxton will provide way more base stealing value, and hopefully he develops power over the next few years like McCutchen has.
  15. Nice 2 strike liner base hit to right by Arcia, but then Kepler grounded into a double play.
  16. Yeah it'll be nice to get to watch someone other than Zuke try to "throw" guys out.
  17. I would have liked to have seen Kepler make that catch on the Marte triple. It would have been a great catch.
  18. 15 HR potential might be a little light. I expect him to be around 20-25 in a few years.
  19. I disagree with the statement that Danny Santana is the frontrunner to be opening day center fielder. If Buxton shows some more discipline at the plate, he's going to start the season with the Twins.
  20. I always like looking at comps for prospects. How does Michael Brantley (healthy version) sound as a nice ceiling comp for Max Kepler?
  21. I meant Vielma would hit in the low .600s, and that might be stretching it for him. I'd have no problem with Andrelton Simmons being in any lineup.
  22. There's no way you should have a guy in your lineup with a low .600s ops, even if he is near Simmons-level defensively (which I doubt Vielma is given how incredible Simmons is.)
  23. It is when he could've entered the weak free agent class after making 16M off the Nats...In hindsight.
  24. Desmond and his agent made an $8M mistake. Yikes.
