True, but the bad part is the 4 year deals given to free agents next year will overlap more with the big contracts that will need be given to Dieng, Wiggins, Lavine, and Towns over the next 3 years.
Rosario in left.. and Danny Santana in CF. Um...what? The day after Buxton gets 2 hits, you sit him on the bench for Santana, who's under .100 against left handers? Sounds like a good plan to me.
Also, someone named Christian Stewart of the Tigers made the USA team as an outfielder. He's got 18 HRs, but is hitting .248 in High-A, and the Tigers have 2 representatives. Not a huge deal, but I think Daniel Palka has a stronger case.
High draft pick Carson Fulmer and his 5.28 ERA made the team. I'm guessing every team has to be represented then. Don't the White Sox have anyone having a better season than that?
I'd also consider this year a success so far. In repeating Ft. Myers, he lowered his ERA from 3.20 to 2.61, and probably the more important part is increasing his K/9 from 4.9 to 7.7. It is also interesting how we consider Stewart as maybe not living up to expectations even though he was a 2 sport guy out of high school, and he's got a 2.93 ERA in his minor league career.
I guess the good news is that he committed an error out there. But yeah, it's just completely ridiculous that they're continuing to entertain the idea of Sano in RF.
Also, during the game on Saturday, Terry Ryan mentioned Trevor May along with Ryan Pressly as guys who he liked when he was asked something about the bullpen.
Yes it does matter. No one knows if the Twins will be contending next year or not. They were in the hunt until the final weekend last year, so who knows. This isn't the NBA where you can pretty easily predict which teams will be awful and which won't.
Vargas is hitting .234 with a .776 OPS in AAA this year, so not much to be excited about. I'd rather bring Polanco up, send Park down, and then rotate the DH spot.
Arcia has shown no improvement at all in the playing time that he has gotten this year since his terrible 2015. I like the effort that he put into his body being in great shape, and he seemed like a really good teammate, but he's just not a good enough player to get worked up about this move.
Arcia has been awful at the plate for 2 years in a row now, striking out at an absurd rate, and he offers nothing other than his bat. He is easily replaceable. So what's the big deal?
With Harrison, the walks are nice, but the hitting ability, power, and fielding are not. I think his draft position is the only reason he still gets ranked on Twins prospect lists.
