  1. It sure makes a lot more sense to play Pinto in September than Fryer. Give him and Kurt 50-50 and give the kid some more valuable MLB experience. The Twins need to be more aggressive giving these kids a shot when the season has gone down the tubes. The games might be meaningless for the Twins, but not for their opponents.
  2. A competent 25 year old SS is nothing to sneeze at. Escobar has been my #1 surprise this season. Santana has been pleasant surprise #1. He seems pretty mature for his age. His athleticism is a nice match for short. Given that we have a top SS prospect in Gordon, and all the rest (Polanco, Michael), I agree with Nick, suddenly shortstops indeed. So so glad we got Burdi instead of Stephen Drew and his .170 BA. BTW, just checked, Burdi's numbers so far: 16 IP 11H 31K.
  3. Well said - "sell high" means selling someone who is actually playing well. Those are the pieces we should be trying to keep.
  4. How do you explain a guy who never hit higher than .284 suddenly hits .331 as a 34 year old, and is on the same pace as a 35 year old. Crazy. Maybe Suzuki is no fluke after all.
  5. I noticed that too Scotty - I thought home jerseys had team name, road had location. Weird.
  6. I think a year in Elizabethton would do him good. Heck, a year in Elizabethton seems to do everybody good.
  7. I wouldn't trade him. Who catches if Sukuki twists his ankle or something? Depth is an organizational strength, not a problem. I could very well see him get 300 ABs or so next year rotating at catcher, DH, and right handed bat off the bench. 2016, who knows?
  8. "A couple fairly intriguing minor-league pitchers came back in the Correia and Willingham swaps" I must've missed it - who did they get for Correia?
  9. I think the trades people wanted have been made - the future looks good, even without the mega-prospects. Once they are healthy, look out.
  10. "Everybody's dressing funny, color me impressed..."
  11. This sums up my thinking as well. Who needs a stinking trade deadline when you can get real live prospecrts like this for guys that are on their final legs here.
  12. Such a nice easy swing by Vargas - you could really see the raw power there.
  13. I started out the season wanting to check out Gibson, Dozier, and Arcia. Then Santana was worth a look - or a guy like Darnell or Pino - now Vargas is here. I will always be curious to see new prospects and how they fare.
  14. I sense a future pitching coach in the Twins' organization....
  15. Brock, I usually agree with you. However, maybe part of a young ballplayer's progress is to become better, no matter the level. He doesn't profile as a corner guy per se, but given his relatively tender age, he is kicking ass right now.
  16. Does Santana's hitting style remind anybody of Span? He also kept his lead foot on the ground as I recall.....
  17. I know there have been some eyebrows raised at the Twins habit of drafting college relievers of late. My eyebrows are raised in that none of them are actually on the team yet. Good powerful bullpen lies in our future.
  18. Well, Dozier's spot is looking more secure than ever.
  19. What a line today: 5 for 6, 2 runs, 4 RBI, 2 SB, double, triple, walk. Pretty insane stuff.
  20. That was fun - turn on a 4-3 game watch it become a wipeout of the dirty socks. Good on Santana, Arcia, Vargas, Plouffe, Fryer, and most importantly, Gibson. 10 game winner in his first full season with nearly 2 months to go!
  21. The Twins really, REALLY need to give Mays and Meyer their taste of MLB this season. The learning opportunity is just too huge to be wasted.
  22. Having depth at a key position is a good thing. I hope Hicks keeps moving up, regardless of who he might be blocking. Internal competition also ain't bad.
