  1. Not impressed with the job of ump Nick Mahrley behind the plate tonight.
  2. Wow, Drake is funky as hell - him back to back with Hildenberger, mess em up. I can see why 5 teams have taken a shot at Drake.
  3. Berrios got beaten up his first time up too. Hopefully he learning on the job
  4. Problem for Joe is that he doesn't rack up huge hit totals with his approach. His 3 highest season totals ever were 191, 181, 176. In the 2010s he has averaged 143 per season, and is only at 86 for this season. He'd have to play well into his 40s to have a sniff with numbers like those.
  5. #24 always been kind of a sacred number, mainly cuz of Willy Mays, and less so Griffey Jr. Seeing Logan Forsythe take the number caused curiosity, especially seeing LaMarre had it earlier this season. Notable Twin #24s, in my order of importance for my enjoyment: 1. Willie Norwood 2. Shane Mack 3. Tom Brunansky 4. Soup Campbell 5. Trevor Plouffe 6. Mike Lamb Others include Matt Lecroy, Rondell White, Ricardo Ingram, Jaime Garcia, and going back to the 50's and the Senators, the immortal Bunky Stewart.
  6. Point taken - however, when you put Morrison, Grossman, Motter, and others out there, is Mauer that bad as a bench option as a 1b,dh, ph option? He could probably patrol RF with his arm if he tried. Didn't expect to be defending Mauer tonight. Still, how would you like a team to treat its real stars, faded or not, money aside? Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera: that's how you treat a star you signed and developed. Mauer had a health issue , like Tony O. Coulda been a 1st ballot guy. If you wanna watch Rooker whiff 200 times next year, more power to you.
  7. Happy to see Sano out there playing and having fun.
  8. Good lesson for Garver, on the defensive side.
  9. It's about respect. Should be a 2 way street.
  10. Baseball is great in that tanking for a pick is pretty much impossible. In hockey they often have slogans like"Fail for Nail, Play Bad for Ekblad, Fall for Hall," for the trophy players that often pop up at #1 overall (failing for Nail was a fail). There are so many ways to acquire players, and the learning curve can be long. You never know where a potential star may lurk. It can happen in hockey as well, but the odds are much more slim. Basketball, what do they have, 3 rounds or so? Development and good scouting are gold in MLB.
  11. I think it would be shameful were the Twins to merely cast Mauer aside at the end of the season. I remember watching Harmon Killebrew in a Royals uniform. Ugh. You just don't do that to special franchise players. Twins cast aside Morneau, Cuddyer, Hunter, Hawkins before their expire date. They were younger when they left, but I would have preferred they all stayed here. . I hope they come up with a deal that allows Mauer his farewell tour for a reasonable price for both sides. Not being sentimental, but how an organization treats players like this matters, to me at least. EDIT: It isn't like the people being proposed here to replace him are blocked stars.
  12. Imagine Matt was your brother, or your son, father, cousin, etc. Not his fault the Twins management likes him. $$*&(T(*&tJ098uHO*7to8bubd#@%^$E*R&^G! OOUUCCHH! Sorry, just fell off my soapbox.
  13. Per Bernardino:https://www.twincities.com/2018/08/06/source-twins-joe-mauer-logan-morrison-clear-waivers/
  14. who knows Mike - they certainly have more data and scout input than our gut feelings. Hells bells, you don't rise to their positions by being dummies.
  15. Me too - lots of new bodies to be accounted for. On the bright side, maybe Falvine forgot as well.
  16. However, perhaps these guys have been on the radar of Falvine a while. Also, there was no room on the Twins 40 man until the trade deadline purge a week ago. Kickin tires...lots of variables in play we are completely blind to.
  17. Riverbrian, well said. This management is seems unwilling to let any opportunity go by. You identified the key points. When rosters expand, if our AAA guys don't get a look, then I'll get mad.
  18. Here is your Monday morning anomaly: Seattle is a full 11 games ahead of the Twins with a shiny 64-48 record. Yet somehow, their run differential is slightly worse than that of the Twins, -19 to -17. There must be some royal butt-kickings in those 48 losses.
  19. oh, just a MAJOR LEAGUE RECORD. And a win. And 3 home runs, including an absolute BOMB by 99.
  20. Add a couple odd waiver claims and I think you nailed it.
  21. My guess? The Twins braintrust has already made up their minds about Busenitz, Curtis, Reed, Bard and company, and they no likey. They already let Burdi and Chargois go, and Bard once too. The must lack spin or some other micro-quality. Or they have a fetish for 43rd round draft picks.
  22. Holy leg kick! Get a load of this pic of Celestino from the Athletic: More kind words for the Twins' deadline over there. https://theathletic.com/457049/2018/08/02/twins-trade-deadline-prospect-haul-grades-alcala-celestino-duran/?source=dailyemail
