  1. What is there to lose? First off, service time. However, Walker is eligible for the rule-5 draft next season so we'll need to add him to the 40 man roster regardless. However, I actually don't think Walker would help our pinch hitting. Reasons why: 1: I know we've all heard this many times, but ABW strikes out a TON. He still needs seasoning and time to develop. He looks like a guy who will need [some] time at AAA. 2: Pinch hitting opportunities happen late in the game. Who pitches during the late innings? Relievers. And you know what most relievers are good at doing? Striking people out. ABW isn't ready to face major league relievers yet. 3: The Twins trust veteran players. They aren't going to trust ABW late in a game they need to win. I don't necessarily agree, but I think that's what the Twins Management would think. If the Twins want to improve their pinch-hitting, then get Vargas up here. He's been hitting better of late.
  2. Bases loaded, no outs. I'd usually expect the Twins to score 0 runs here, but I think we'll hit in a couple...
  3. Nunez! The guy who we all wanted to see at 3B! Ha! Who needs Sano when you have Nunez?
  4. Go-Go hasn't been doing very well with the Astros, has he? I wonder what's up?
  5. This lineup... yikes... Escobar at #2? And also, Shane Robinson appears to have been promoted to a starting spot in the outfield. Why?!
  6. Yeah... at this point, we've kept him on so long we might as well finish carrying him until the end of this season. Then have him pitch in AAA in 2016.
  7. Sano is so good I can't even think of something witty to say about him. However, Santana is a disaster at this point. Ever since they added him to the rotation, the Twins severely downgraded it. Since Hughes isn't ready yet, maybe it's Berrios time. If not... Taylor Rogers or Pat Dean time?
  8. It's interesting to think that once Ervin Santana joined our rotation, he gave our rotation a noticeable downgrade but it also made the bullpen better (once May actually got to throw high-leverage innings, that is).
  9. You're right, but the Twins should have made this move when they had a 2.5 game lead, not when they had a 2.5 game deficit.
  10. It's pretty clear now that TR does not think any of our guys at AAA are realistic options. The Twins have to use veteran-only pitchers like Jepsen, Cotts, Duensing, and Fien. Achter and Tonkin need to be given more chances and more rope. It seemed whenever Boyer, Duensing, and Fien struggled, they were clearly on a long leash and were given every single oppurtunity (and more) to rebound. When a young pitcher struggles here, they get yanked immediately, it seems. (Meyer, Thielbar, Achter, Tonkin) With all of that said, I'm still happy we made this trade. It's just too late - this move should have happened in July, not in late August. I was hoping the Twins would discover some future solutions in the bullpen this season - but we haven't. The only positives I see here are Pressly (let's hope his injury won't affect how well he threw) and May (he really should go back to the rotation in '16). So since the Twins didn't really find any new relievers this season, it looks like TR will return to his dumpster diving in the offseason and find his new Boyer, Stauffer, Roenicke, Gray, or heck, even re-sign Neal Cotts.
  11. We had an open spot after DFA'ing Fryer.
  12. Wow, this kid can pitch. I wonder if he'll have a chance to be in the rotation next season. If not, you'd think he could be a good reliever... especially with that curveball.
  13. 0-2 count HR... how many times has that happened this season?
  14. Where would we be without Sano? Man, he's just getting adjusted to the majors... I look forward to when he's in his prime.
  15. We just traded for him! Now you suggest trading him away? We gave up Hu and Tapia for this guy 10 days ago and now you're ready to ship him out? The Twins aren't going to part with their veterans, especially Hunter. He has a no-trade clause, he's stated that he's going to retire with the Twins, and TR will probably sign him on for next season because "veteran-ness".
  16. Should I suggest adding May to the rotation, or would that be beating the dead horse?
  17. Whoa, did Cleveland trade for Nelson Cruz and Neil Walker? Ha ha, I jest, though, they are in the same spots that Cruz and Walker play...
  18. Really? Move him back to catcher? :s-instagib: (have you seen the pinned topic in the Twins Talk section? The one called "Mauer will never catch again"?)
  19. This was a good article, but one thing I'm not worried about is cap room. The Pohlads will extend the cap space if they have to. Basically, if TR told them, "I'm making a run for it" (this only really happened with Smith in 2010, but continuing...), the Pohlads would do it and give him more room to work with. The main problem is that TR doesn't appear to want to "go for it" and may not be capable of pulling it off. The Blue Jays didn't use up very much cap space because they got rid of Reyes' $22M. Yes, they will have to fit Tulo into the salary for the next few years, but it's not as if they're spending loads and loads of money above their normal cap limit.
  20. Boyer can't be on this team much longer. I don't even need to explain why.
  21. Somebody mentioned Thielbar will be going off the 40-man roster, but I can't find the source for that. I wonder if the Twins are open to going back to a 8 man bullpen (goodness, I hope not). They could send Santana down to AAA for Jepsen.
  22. I'm not sure if I'd want Shields, but dumping Nolasco and adding a reliever sounds very nice. Let's hope the Twins can get something done today.
  23. Alright, I'm posting this late, but I made it to the game. I was actually gonna check out the new Saints stadium, but apparently they had an away game... thankfully, the Twins were playing too. Good show, I say! I approve of Sano at 3B defensively and the questions about Polanco's arm at SS are definitely warranted. He looks like a 2B to me.
