  1. Gardy, Bruno and Vavra were in the tower again today watching the minor league games. Gardy was here yesterday as well.
  2. Mastro dove for a ball 2 days ago and hurt his wrist a bit, but today he was out here with a glove. He's not playing in one of the minor league games today, but told me he'll be fine.
  3. I'll put myself in the 2nd group of fans. Mind you, I've been a fan since day one, attending opening day in 1961, so no reason for anyone to question my fanhood. To maintain any sense of sanity I had to turn off so many games early last year. It just wasn't much fun. The atmosphere here this year is just zero, no feeling of any expectations at all, and their spring training games just enforce the feeling. About the only thing I feel confident in is that I'll be able to see competitive games for more innings this year. I remember back when we really should of beat the Yankees in the playoffs, back when we had teams that had a pulse and a chance to go deep in the post season only to fail when IMO Gardy just made bonehead moves. And I remember telling anyone that would listen that it'll be a long time before we get this chance again. I'm afraid it might be alot longer than I even imagined then. After all, we do have the curse of "Big Popi". He almost singlehandly ended the curse of the "Bambino" and all we can do is think of what if. Granted we've got some very nice young players coming up the pipeline. But let's remember, so does every other team. Some of these guys I see play for the opposing teams down here really look outstanding. Every team has hope for the future with their prospects. Are the Twins really that much better in the minors that it will translate to a winning team in the majors? Time will tell. But I'd put a date of hoping so at 2018, and not before. I sure hope I'm wrong on the closer side.
  4. I think we went after AJ pretty hard, but then why would he come back here?
  5. He was all smiles a couple hours ago. Wonder if he knew then, but hey, he'll get claimed and pitch somewhere.
  6. No, he has to leadoff. He'll walk at least 100 times in front of Willingham. We need a leadoff that can get on base, and that's Joe. You say we need him to drive in runs, well that hasn't worked very good in all the years past, has it? We need him to score runs, and not have the bat taken out of his hands.
  7. Make that an even dozen dingers for the mighty Twins this spring. Gotta be worst in baseball.
  8. No, Mauer has to leadoff. How can they not keep Thielbar? Tonkin is really, really PO'd, is Thielbar next?
  9. Mastro dove for a ball yesterday and also jammed his wrist. He came out today but without a glove or bat. He doesn't have much luck.
  10. For some reason Gardy is down at the minors in the tower watching the AA game closely.
  11. I'll give the staff or whoever some credit here. Someone made a mistake and now they've taken care of it.
  12. This should make up the money they lost yesterday with the rainout.
  13. No game day thread, so who's pitching? Gameday has Gibson. Pelfrey was supposed to pitch in the minors today, but that's all messed up with the rain. Infield dirt is mud, so guys just hit and go back to the dugout. Orioles didn't show so it's just A vs A and AAA vs AA. Perkings got hit hard, Duensing did ok. But no Pelfrey sighting.
  14. This is entirely possible, though I hope not.
  15. 70.5? Gee I hope their close, Vegas that is. I'll be surprised and very happy to see 70 wins but would put the house I won last year on the under this year.
  16. Kubel would be snapped up first. But that won't happen as he has to make the team. Why give Parmelee one last chance? Seems he's had plenty of last chances and doesn't take advantage.
  17. I'm jealous of your optimism. I can see us scoring 5 runs a game maybe 30 time this season, but averaging around 3.8. We were no where near a 5 average last year, and this will be worse.
  18. Oh he wouldn't be out there much, just as Presley shouldn't be either. Bartlett would spend alot more time in other positions. I'm certainly not a Presley fan and would rather have Mastro around. I don't see Presley as a loss if gone.
  19. Not really. Bartlett can play other positions, Presley is more or less worthless.
  20. I'm soaked. But there was alot of money flowing here today. They sold Miracle ponchos for $5 a crack and there must of been 400 of them out there today. The food was getting eaten and the beer flowing. And the gift shop had a waiting line of at least 1/2 hour plus they were selling T shirts outside the gift shop. So all's not lost today. I figured there was no way they would play, but at one they just announced delayed. Why cancel when money is pouring in! The minor leaguers played each other and started at 9:30 and played 7 innings.
  21. The pitching will be better but the offense alot worse. 65 wins is tops that I can see. And I'm not sure Gardy has the nuts to take some chances to tweek it. The atmosphere down here is the worst I've ever seen since the place opened. I'm surprised that I've come to this, but I think Kubel has to make the team to improve the offense. And Bartlett should be up in May, if he does take the AAA route. At least those two have experience to draw on. The younger guys on the team have never been on a winner.
  22. He was a coach, and it was about 8 years ago. The news reported a problem with rabid raccoons, and sure enough on attacked him in his yard but one swing from the shovel eliminated one rabid raccoon.
  23. Right, but as high as far. I still haven't seen any comments that Mauer shouldn't lead off. The best stick on the team doesn't need a ton of walks. I really think it's a no brainer for what we have for offense. This team needs runs and it looks like most of them will have to come from the top of the lineup, so let's do this.
  24. There's one perfect candidate for leadoff, Joe Mauer. Like I told Gardy yesterday, Joe will walk 100 times this year with Willingham behind him. Look what happened today when Joe came up with 2 outs and men on 1st and 2nd. Tanaka didn't give him anything near the zone and a 4 pitch walk. Willingham flies out. Nuff said!
  25. Best known for killing a rabid raccoon with a shovel while working in his yard.
