  1. Yeah I know you were. I'm annoyed by it because all I've ever seen the distinction do is introduce an unhelpful level of semantics. If I'm wrong then I'd welcome an example where the distinction is actually useful.
  2. The distinction implies that pitchers can throw strike after strike after strike and somehow have lousy command and vice versa, throw a ball outside of the zone on purpose but have no control. Its stupid. Does the ball end up where the pitcher is trying to throw it or not? In other words, what are his K and BB rates? 90% of "command" or "control" or whatever you want to call it will be captures by those two stats.
  3. Its one of those things scouts made up because it makes them feel important. Like the idea of "bat speed." Funny, no one ever considers "bat weight" or "bat length" in that equation. Not to mention swing mechanics. "Control" and "command" are the same thing, you can use both interchangeably.
  4. Yeah, I think that's the difference. He hasn't been able to command the splitter since early August.
  5. Buxton's going to need a good long optional assignment in 2016 so I would not trade anyone right now. They'll have room in a corner for Arcia then Kepler if necessary. As for Rosario, Sickels wrote a piece on him last week and said he thinks Rosario's operating at the upper boundary of his talents, based on his rough approach. Its hard to disagree although staying at this boundary would mean we're talking about a 2-3 Win player. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/9/3/9244289/minor-league-ball-mailbag-can-eddie-rosario-of-the-twins-improve Also this if it wasn't posted already. That HR off Josh Tomlin a couple weeks back was remarkable: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-home-run-that-must-be-discussed/
  6. If the Berrios non-move wasn't about service time, I can think of one reason Ryan wouldn't have promoted him- respect for the manager's domain. There's no evidence I can think of that TR has ever told his managers how to use the 25 he gives them. Not who to start, where to play them on the field, how many innings to give them, how much rest to give them, etc. Once he turns over a player, he is hands-off. And I suspect he fears how Molitor might use Berrios in a WC race and in the playoffs. Eg. back to back days out of the pen or worse, slotting him into the rotation which would push his innings well into the 200s in the worst case scenario that the Twins advance deep into the playoffs. Maybe that sounds conspiratorial but it seems consistent with the Twins' MO and its an approach I respect but maybe this is one case where it bit them.
  7. Question for author and anyone else who is pro bat flip: Have you pitched at a semi-competitive level? Not beer league. I'm talking about something with a tryout like high school varsity or better?
  8. Jeff Sullivan write up on Sano's mechanical changes and batted ball results. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/miguel-sanos-making-his-first-adjustments/
  9. It would be cool if the Twins had a whoopie cushion giveaway so those of us who are annoyed by the wave could place our cushions under the wavers in front of us so that immediately following the circle of "wooooos" would be a thunderous spiral of farts. Or maybe that would just encourage it I don't know.
  10. Ohhh that dude in the blue jacket is gonna hear it.
  11. Didn't Ramon Noodles have a much more famous younger brother?
  12. All the sudden the back end of the bullpen looks... Royals-esque.
  13. RB you ever eat vegemite? I bet you'd love it!
  14. You should have heard what he was eating a few days ago. Some bastardized form of Hamburger Helper IIRC.
  15. http://media.giphy.com/media/ycagKBYEmaili/giphy.gif
  16. Even with a .400 BABIP Buxton's barely OPSing .600 since his recall. He's not ready folks.
  17. Not trying to be a douche but are you sure you're not thinking of Meyer?
  18. Cotts, Duensing, Milone, Thompson, O'Rourke, Fien, Pelfrey, Achter, Graham... the list goes on. They only have 5-6 guys they'll have to add to protect from the Rule 5. Hopefully the fact that TR travelled to Syracuse signals that he's at least considering adding him now, and wasn't just checking up on the farm or something.
  19. And there are 3 guys on the 15 day DL. I'd argue only two should force 40 man moves though: Hicks and Hughes, not Graham. But I am guessing that TR figures that he's protected Graham this far and doesn't want to lose him now. Its increasingly clear that this has nothing to do with Berrios' production or innings (or winning/losing games) and everything to do with protecting players.
  20. In fairness, outside of the Fiers no-hitter, the Astros pitchers have been struggling lately too. McCullers had a 0.1 IP, 6 run start last week for example.
  21. Astros are lined up Kazmir-Fiers-McCullers. Twins oppose with Gibson-Pelfrey-Santana. At least the Twins avoid Keuchel.
  22. IMO Arcia then Rosario are first in line. Kepler is third. For now he's an awesome depth piece with options that can be exercised in '16 and again in '17 (if I'm reading the Organization Chart page correctly). Things will happen over the next 2 years and it will be good to be able to pull someone like him up when they do.
  23. Yeah Sano's swing more resembles the second photo. Its more proof that you have to tailor approaches by batter IMO. Dozier and Sano use a toe tap and it works brilliantly. Kepler abandoned the toe tap in favor of a leg kick and the results speak for themselves. Its amazing how differently kids respond to different things.
