  1. I'd be more open to that idea if there were a C in the pipeline who looked promising. But I'm thinking about marginal gains and putting 2 CFers in the OF seems like a luxury that this team can't afford given their SS and C situations.
  2. Well I wouldn't give him away but there are two center fielders on this roster. One who is ready to go and one who pretty clearly isn't. People are talking about trading the first one, but if the 2nd one is a better trade chip, why not trade that guy? Because you risk forgoing an incremental improvement at CF? There is probably more room for improvement at C or SS. If the trade is fair, that would help the team the most.
  3. Who has more trade value at the moment, Hicks or Buxton? If its Buxton, I'd seriously consider trading him for a C. Hicks is definitely the better player here and now, and quite possibly in the future too. At the very least, Buxton is not ready for the show while Hicks appears to have turned that corner. edit: although if I were GM, I'd be looking for a SS before a C. I think you can scrounge up cheap value with a defensive C on the FA market still (framing, etc). Not to mention the injury risk with that position would make me leary of investing too much in it.
  4. Twins keep pace with the Royals who got another 4 scoreless form their bullpen tonight. Guthrie vs. Quintana tomorrow. Go White Sox??? Ugh that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
  5. Just a $.69 cone from McDonalds for me tonight (two actually). Boring I know but as Jim Gaffigan says, you dont' want to lose money on a deal like that.
  6. That's ok its an unpaid gig. Brauns is OKC? Is that beef based ice cream down there?
  7. And right on queue - base hit off the slider!
  8. Right on queue - strikeout! That slider is nasty.
  9. OK how long has Rosario had a brace on his left wrist?
  10. Rosario's Punto impressions are pretty rough but you have to admit the kid shows promise.
  11. You can Bitesquad Izzy's. They're open til 11 IIRC so you better hurry.
  12. I sometimes crunch up a sugar cone and rain it over the top.
  13. Plouffe is making up for all those solo shots in 2012
  14. Who said you can't hit home runs at O.Co at night?
  15. Sano seems to have a really good eye. I continue to be impressed by his PAs.
  16. It makes sense to me. Promoting Duffey or Rogers to the MLB pen could easily cost a lower price (a roster spot) for a better player (esp. if the alternative is another over the hill veteran rental from the Padres). It does not cement his career irreversibly as a reliever. Phil Hughes is proof of that, as is 4/5 of the Cardinals rotation, and other starters around baseball. Not to mention that the Twins seem to believe there is some kind of relief-to-starter inefficiency that they have been crafting their draft strategy around for a couple years. IMO they have to try at least one of their own guys in the pen before they bungle another trade for a "proven" or "veteran" guy a la Matt Capps. They have the roster space.
  17. One guy that might make for an interesting trade target is the recently demoted 5th starter whose stuff plays up in short stints. Wil Smith was that guy 2 years ago, now he's a stud whose value is a lot higher than a Nori Aoki-rental. So was Wade Davis. Maybe that guy exists on team with a stacked rotation - Nats, Mets, etc? edit: evidently the Aoki for Smith trade occurred in the winter so a bit more than a rental I guess.
  18. Welp, Duffey throws hard, doesn't walk many, and is dominating AAA. Seems like a worthy candidate and all it would cost is a 40 man spot. Meyer has promise. Taylor Rogers?
  19. Anyone else thinking of that game from last August (IIRC) where the Twins scored like 12 runs on past balls when Navarro was catching for the Jays? He has a decent bat (stronger against LHP though). But I don't think he has much for a glove.
  20. I'd take a look at Duffey and Meyer first, then explore trade options if necessary.
  21. Its still way early but I've been impressed by Sano's zone judgement out of the gate. The Royals came after him with some offspeed stuff in the dirt and he laid off most of them nicely, and actually worked a few counts. Can't wait to watch him take more ABs.
  22. And one could could make about a dozen compelling arguments any which way ATM. We are also lacking info. on most guys how they would perform in relief, which further clouds the picture.
  23. According to my math it stops at 6 (12 position players, 7 relievers). 7 at the absolute max.
