Banks are rallying somewhat on expectations of increased inflation (following Trumps election) and the OPEC deal which reduces risk of losses on oil-related loans. I suspect we'll see some inflation, but we really don't have any sort of confirmation yet. And if the Vienna deal is anything like the Doha deal, then there is no actual production cut coming. Doha was just a show to prop up prices in the short term, I would expect the same from Vienna. This would weigh on bank stocks.

Still no catcher for the Sox. Speculation was they were looking to upgrade there. Now that we have Castro for the forseeable future, I wonder if Garver would get their attention in a Quintana deal. Not as a centerpiece obviously but just to get the ball rolling. -

Also, Eaton is sort of a poor man's Brett Gardner. Way above average defense in the corner. Good OBP, decent pop. I know we're not supposed to use WAR but he was worth many of them last year. -

Thought I read on FG that Giolito's velo last year dipped. If you have one TJS, you are more likely than other pitchers to require another TJS. There is also a thought (not sure if there's any evidence for it) that TJS repaired elbows have something like an 8 year expiration, on average. Giolito had TJS way back in 2012. -

I get that. I think I'll just have to agree to disagree here. Personally I think Robin Ventura was the problem. That dugout looked almost as rudderless as the Twins under Molitor. They fired him first thing this offseason. But the players? Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Robertson, Jones, Duke, Eaton, Laurie, Frazier, Abreu... that's a core. That's what a core looks like IMO.

Its not actually a forgone conclusion that they will be bad next year or the year after that (or 2019). They finished with 78 wins last year. I'm curious. At what point do you think teams should launch into rebuild?

Sale is a #1 who will be providing MLB wins immediately. Moncada likely will require at least one option year, maybe three. Maybe he never provides MLB wins. But he'll need to be rostered while they "find out what they have." Its a huge risk. And the upside is overblown IMO. Being the #1 prospect and a second baseman is almost an oxymoron. Second base is the landing spot for failed SS and 3Bs. He would have to hit like Jeff Kent to reach his supposed Hall of Fame ceiling. Kopech doesn't have the pitches to start. His fastball is legit and being a MLB bullpen arm wouldn't be a terrible outcome but that's again, the landing spot for failed starters. Then there are the character questions ie. missing time for breaking his hand in a fight and using banned substance and being suspended. The other two look like throw ins. And compared to packages for example,, a half season of Chapman, it just seems like an exceedingly poor strategy to deal him at this time, for a fairly similar return. IMO.

I don't think you're the only one. There seems to be a lot of complaining about the acting and the ending online. I was all in through the first two seasons. Season 3 was a big letdown IMO. Primal Fear anyone? Paul Spector = Aaron Stampler.. Its uncanny. I know the "real" storyline was about mysogyny and girl power and whatnot but it didn't seem to resolve any of those questions either. Unless I just don't get it.

I'm not asking the second question but yeah, I think its safe to assume international players are going to take a cut on their signing bonuses overall.

Yeah. We had a firm idea of the discounted present value of #10-30 picks in the draft (something like $8-15 million depending on how heavily you discount future wins). What is the discounted present value of 10-20% of the international bonus pool? I have no idea. It seems like it wouldn't be a small amount of money.

Losing $500k to $1m from a hard, ~$5m international bonus pool in order to sign a free agent seems... almost as bad as losing a first round draft pick. Worse even?

Just seems like a non-sequitor. There's nothing to dispute. These are economic indicators. Are you suggesting the "st" market should move in lockstep with them?
