  1. You know Kennys is trying to hit one over the 3rd deck in left during BP. I would be too if I were him.
  2. Its not just that you'll be paying higher AAV if you wait, and Plouffe stays a good player. Its that you'll pay higher AAV for more years and for declining production. Pay him now or down't pay him at all. Waiting and then paying him is the worst option.
  3. Are you saying the verdict is still out on Plouffe?
  4. Wait til Sano reaches the majors, then get creative with playing out of position. #Twinsbaseball
  5. I think this is a good point. The Twins have pounded a lot of square pegs into round holes defensively lately. Perhaps a better approach would be to trade for players who actually fit the position.
  6. I'd look at it, definitely. He seems to have turned a corner. I don't know where people get this idea that he can play all over the field though.
  7. Its broken into age groups. If I'm reading their chart correctly, MLB pitchers in the 16-23 age group return to pitch again at the MLB level at a rate of about 75%. edit: Re-reading your post, I understand what you mean about other reasons (eg. ineffectiveness). Maybe a better grouping to look at is the 24-27 group who return at about 85%.
  8. I could be wrong, but I suspect there might be some familiarity bias creeping into the discussion. Most of us remember Aiken lapping what was deemed to be a strong pitching class last year. The experts tell us this year's class is weaker, and the names are unknown to a lot of us still (me for sure). Just a thought. I doubt we'll look back in 10 years and not find a dozen or so really good players taken in the first couple rounds, like we can for most classes.
  9. There are studies of TJS success rates using larger samples, like this one from THT last month http://www.hardballtimes.com/tommy-john-surgery-success-rates-in-the-majors/ The conclusion, one in five MLB pitchers to get Tommy John won't throw another pitch at the MLB level. The return rate was slightly worse for pitchers who had surgery between age 16-23 (although they logged more innings). It's too big of a risk to take at 6 unless you believe the post TJS upside of Aiken is so great as to dwarf the healthy alternatives, which I find incredulous.
  10. These guys had TJS after they began their development. Thus their team-control years are less shortened by the theoretical 8 year lifespan of a 2nd elbow.
  11. TJS success rates are good but they're not so good that you take one at 6. Too much of a reach IMO. Heck, taking Giolito at 16 was considered a reach by a lot of people. And he hasn't even cracked AA so I wouldn't consider it an inefficiency just yet. Its just too risky for 6 IMO.
  12. Here's the thing with Aiken. Evidently there's an opinion that a normal lifespan on a 2nd elbow is 8 years. Don't ask me who holds that opinion or how scrutinized it is. But it seems plausible, right? Aiken was born on 8/16/96. He would spend at least 3-6 years "developing" in the Twins system, right? How much of a useful life would that leave your 6 overall pick? Not enough to even take him to FA. Not if there's any truth behind that 8 year number.
  13. Alright, a compromise. In the current scheme, there are days Santana is going to be benched just to get Escobar in the lineup and keep him "fresh." OK, why not stick him in the OF on those days isntead? He loses no PT at SS and he can displace one of Schafer/Robinson.
  14. Honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I'm just missing things. Outside of that one KC game, Santana's looked fine to me. He definitely hasn't cost the team 6 runs or whatever DRS says in a nothing 15 game sample.
  15. 41 ABs. and a third he hasn't put the ball in play. He's not this bad, or this unlucky probably (with his wheels). Plenty of time to turn things around and win a batting title.
  16. .285 in the AL in 2015. Last year was .298 (AL). Why?
  17. Yeah I noticed that too. Kinda funny that Hunter keeps missing cutoff men. On the other hand I think he put up probably the 3 best PAs against Salazar all day. Back to Arcia, I like his bat enough that I'd play him in the OF everyday, certainly against righties. But I don't share the optimism about his defensive abilities or lack thereof. He looks like he has two left feet to me.
  18. Arcia isn't fat but he wasn't blessed with the athleticism that say, a 24 year old Torii Hunter had. You can see it every time he hits the deck and bungles a shoestring opportunity like he did today (again), for example.
  19. 7 games in, 6 games back. Of two teams. When's the time for action? How about today. Get a freaking win. Against a division rival, while fans still give a damn.
  20. So instead of booing him for being a liar, boo him for being an idiot.
  21. It was really on stark display yesterday. Not to pick on Ozzie but right after he derffed that catch in short left, Gordon had a similar opportunity on the first batter of the next half inning. Caught. And shortly after Hunter missed the fly ball in right field, Rios got a similar opportunity. Caught. And that's not even counting Dozier who seemed too concerned about scoring style points for some reason, or Santana who looked glitchy on just about every play. Robinson, Suzuki and Plouffe were the only ones that didn't goof at least one opportunity. (Unless I'm forgetting one)
  22. Fly ball to short left, Arcia slides and bounces off his glove in fair territory. Fly ball to deel left center, tough but catchable, Arcia misses. Fly ball to deep right, tough but catchable, Hunter doesn't catch then misses the cutoff man. Triple. Dribbler up the middle, Morales (or maybe Perez) running Dozier plays when he should have let Santana get it. Single. Double play ball hit to Dozier, backhand flips from about 45 feet, comes up short, forces Santana off the bag to catch, rushes his relay to 1B. One hopper Mauer can't handle. No out recorded, runners on 1b and 2b. I feel like I'm missing a dropped popup...
  23. In a nutshell Royals defense >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Twins defense.
  24. We all knew the Twins defense was going to be bad but this is pretty embarassing.
  25. Well said http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/PLQMZY/dirties.gif
