  1. Maybe Colome plus Hu or some other pitching prospect to round it out? Another idea: Twins send Dozier to LAD, Kepler + Kiriloff to TBR LAD sends specs to TBR Rays send Archer to Min (Twins sign Joey Bats)
  2. I know there were rumors the Dodgers inquired about forsythe, but were the Rays ever on board with the possibility? Most rumors I have read about the Rays is they were looking to shop pitching. Namely, Colome but I might have missed something.
  3. I floated another idea earlier too: Dozier to LAD Current LAD prospect package to TBR TBR pitching to Minn (Colome?)
  4. Mussina has already been punished by the Win stat. The 2001 Cy Young vote is exhibit A. More IP and lower ERA than Clemens, his teammate. But Clemens had 20 wins to Mussina's 17 and got 122 Cy Young votes. Mussina got 2. In 1992 he was screwed by the save. Mussina managed a 2.54 ERA pitching in the bandbox of Camden. But he only had 18 wins and Dennis Eckersley had 51 saves in 80 IP. I am always amazed by how people remember Mussina. In my mind he was Halladay before Halladay. Quietly putting together huge seasons in a tough home park in a tough division with an arsenal of differently moving pitches and excellent command. Seems like when he faced the Twins you could book him for 8 IP and 2 ER.
  5. The Dodgers have a strong team, but I was shocked to find just how bad they faired against LHP last year. They were dead last in baseball with a 72 wRC+. They weren't that good against RHP either (98 wRC+). There are only a handful of LH studs around but its not hard to imagine one of them completely shutting down that lineup in the playoffs. Bumgarner, Lester, Miller, Chapman, or the Red Sox.
  6. Which one does Mollie ask to be the multi-inning fireman to pitch on back to back days in the playoffs?
  7. Fair enough. That's why I'm okay with waiting 6-12 months. If they can get $1.75 on the dollar later, versus $1.05 on the dollar now, then it could well be worth it. Even if the house has a little more wear and tear. Plus, they get to live in this awesome house a little longer.
  8. Depends on the value of the house. See Markos late entry for 2016 post of the year. I'm only taking $20k over asking if the house is valued at $30k or less. If its a $250k value, you'd be well within your right to hold out for $4-500k.
  9. KC has Raul Mondesi slated for 2nd no? Maybe next winter if Mondesi works out, move him to SS and pickup a 2B then.
  10. Looked it up- Friedman is under contract through 2019. Also saw that he has never traded a top 5 prospects. I assume that is organizational prospect. And it appears he prefers to trade prospects acquired via trade instead of ones he drafted/signed. I just have to wonder if he is the right guy for that market. I guess I'll believe it when either they win a WS his way or he makes an actual big market, top prospects for top talent trade a la Epstein, Dombrowski, etc.
  11. Rays seem like they could fit as a third team, no? What would the Dodger's offer (JDL+) be worth to the Rays?
  12. You also have to wonder how many seasons Friedman can finish with a first round exit due to perceived lack of going all in. I dunno, maybe LA fans are more forgiving than other big markets (NY) but I would assume the leash is shorter for him than say, a TR.

  14. Yeah, for any non-yielding asset to be outperforming the dollar, handily, right now, bitcoin is pretty much alone in that respect. If I owned any I'd have my finger on the sell trigger. Just seems like too-pronounced of a diversion.
  15. Bitcoin is really fascinating. It is more or less a cumulative measure of forex fear globally.
  16. One thing seems fairly certain IMO- if China is able to stabilize its currency or introduces controls that prevent a massive sell-off at the beginning of the year, you would have to think Bitcoin would take a hit as speculation of massive demand for it never materializes, or disappoints.
  17. If you own bitcoin, you might want to watch yesterday's Daily Market Commentary on learningmarkets.com. Sounds like the Chinese are trying to get out of Yuan into USD, but government limits on how much Yuan they can sell (despite what Trump says the People's Bank of China is trying to support the Yuan, not devalue it). Thing is, those limits expire at the end of the year, so there is some speculation that in the new year a bunch of Yuan will be sold for Bitcoin. That speculation seems to be at least partly responsible for driving up the price before Jan 1.
  18. Considering Stewart converted from infielder to pitcher in 2014, I think he's on an impressive trajectory. If it were me, I'd ask for Stewart, Alvarez, plus the third piece they want. Let the Dodgers keep De Leon. YMMV. edit:2014 not 2015
  19. In case Jack Goin is reading: https://www.amazon.com/Trump-Art-Deal-Donald-J/dp/0399594493/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1483033736&sr=1-1&keywords=art+of+the+deal

  21. When the Min-LAD thread started I used my mlb.tv subscription to checkout a couple of De Leon and Stewart's starts, and IMO as a not-scout, I wouldn't be surprised if Stewart has the better career. In fact, I'd bet on it.
  22. But they should at least be ready to start taking lumps at the big league level, no? As we know just cracking into the bigs isn't the end of the road for these kids. We are usually talking 2-3 years of figuring out MLB, assuming they can stick in the first place. I would have no interest in Alvarez as anything but a throw in. Certainly doesn't make it some kind of slam dunk offer. The kid has all of 9 starts in A ball. Bellinger, Stewart, maybe Barnes. People on the cusp of taking their lumps in MLB, these should be the targets IMO. I am not expecting immediate contributions but I have no interest in any more half-decade projects ie. Alex Meyer / Trevor May. I would rather keep Dozier til next winter than settle on more deep-minors prospects.
  23. If you go back to the Span / Revere trade threads in 2012 you can read the exact same thing about 2014-2015.
  24. What is the ETA on Alvarez? 2019 at best?
  25. The amount over the cap. And the 92% rate would only apply to amounts that are 40 million or more over the cap a third time. Payrolls that are always north of $240m or so, ie. the Dodgers. http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/76736/how-luxury-tax-penalties-would-work-on-baseballs-biggest-payrolls
