I'm not sure playing less would have avoided the quad strain. The more important takeaway from last year IMO is use the DL for injuries like this, esp. with Joe.
Not a bad system for SP IMO. The talent won't all stick but looks like we're in for a steady feed over the next 2-3 years at least, which is more than we could say about the last decade or so.
Does the death of the platoon player and increase in bullpen size over the years have anything to do with the narrative that players slump because of sporadic playing time (as would happen when platooned)? No idea what the answer is. Anyone know of research on the death of the platoon and/or everyday playing time vs sporadic playing time?
When they opened up Perkins shoulder last year there were reports that the labrum was worse than expected. Opening day was always an ambitious target. Perkins isn't pitching off a mound yet because he doesn't feel strong enough to, so this development is just confirmation that he probably won't be ready until late spring at best.
That's a good point IMO. Despite the strikeouts I think Sano's at bats were, on average, very competitive. Not the same quality of strikeouts compared to someone like Rosario or Buxton to a lesser extent. I expect 40 homers / 100 walks / 150 k's from Sano this year.
Someone can look it up, but my memory is the opposite. He punches the high fastball into center-left his whole career. Whereas he's grounded to second on the low fastball, if he swings at all. Lately he has been looking befuddled when those low ball/calls don't go his way.
They just DFA'd Park, don't need the roster spot. If by chance Park, Vargas, and Sano dominate AND Mauer struggles then maybe you DFA him to get Park onto the roster.
Polls also showed Bernie doing better against Trump than Clinton in a general. You must have pretty low regard for an electorate to think some weak sauce religious smear would improve his standing. Especially coming from Trump.
I reckon the atheist is the harder sell. Again, Trump is essentially an atheist. Kennedy a Catholic, Obama an African-American. Identity has a tendency to take a back seat to message in this country, every time. Unless that identity is "crook."
The one takeaway from this election should be that voters can't be lumped into different boxes and the guy who checks the most wins. Trump is for all intents and purposes, a godless east coast elite. He won the bible belt, because he was a stronger candidate than Clinton who was the weakest nominee since Al Gore. I really think you're short selling the capacity of the average voter to digest a candidates message versus "identifying" with them.
Yeah I'm going to have to send a few coin to the ACLU. They're looking for a plaintiff with standing against Trump for his abuse of the Emolument's clause in the Constitution. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/02/donald-trump-conflicts-of-interests/508382/
Are you saying that Sanders would have lost the Latino vote? To Trump? A. Impossible, and B. This is identity politics again. That's not what people care about. Polls had Sanders up 9-10% when Clinton was up 3-4%, right before she clinched the nom. The electoral map showed him with more EC votes. All races / sexes / etc. included in the population.
Wasn't the rationale for nominating Clinton in the first place that she stood a better chance to beat Trump in a general? Despite the polls showing Sanders with a 9-10 pt lead over Trump into mid-summer. Dems really need to back off the identity politics IMO. Being the "first" (fill in the blank) is always going to lose to someone who speaks to the issues people care about.
