  1. Let me get this right. Scouts expect Gordon's hit and power to come along as he fills into his frame... but there's absolutely no risk he outgrows shortstop?
  2. If it were my call I'd probably rotate Hicks-Escobar-Santana to give all 3 a look. Escobar's too hot to sit in favor of Santana for more than a day or two at a time, IMO. edit: to clarify, rotate Santana in at SS and CF, and not Escobar into CF (or Hicks into SS). I've seen enough Escobar in the outfield.
  3. Santana has the same skills as Bonifacio. Fast, switch hitting, middle infielder by trade, converted outfielder at age 23. He won't read balls off the bat as well as an everyday outfielder but I think he has enough speed to make up for some of that and ultimately put up near-average level defense in the OF (like Bonifacio). If he continues to get on base, he could be a real roster saver as a backup to everyone but catcher. There's a golden opportunity here.
  4. One morning before school my mom rummaged through my backback and found a pack of smokes. "Not mine" I said. "Someone put em there" I said. "Wait till your father gets home," she said. Longest day of school ever. Nobody had my back that day
  5. "... And verily, I say unto you, pay 1/10 strkeouts per 9 as a tithe. And behold, your defenders slave for you."
  6. That still could be related to injury. To hear Kubel tell it, he hurt one of his knees in ST last year, and in compensating for that hurt his quad. He mostly played through it and put up a bad year. Is something like that going on again? Unless we can get an accurate read of his knee/leg condition, we can't know whether his skills have declined IMO. He's still only 31.
  7. Should we do another lap on sample size? Kubel's had a lousy couple of weeks, no doubt about it. But he's earned a leash. Parmelee hasn't earned squat and its not for lack of opportunities.
  8. I'm cool with Barr but Bridgewater does nothing for me. As badly as we need to solve the QB situation, this was not the draft to do it IMO.
  9. In ST, he did not look like the old Guerrier. Is his elbow still bugging him? How was his velocity in Rochester?
  10. Not that we need 13 pitchers but its not even like Guerrier has lit up the IL. In 5 IP he's given up 2 HR's while striking out 3 and walking 2. I am trying to keep an open mind but this doesn't make sense from any angle.
  11. Yeah I understand now. Wow. Who does that? Meaningless foreshadowing? Sad thing is I will probably watch season 2 and be disappointed all over again.
  12. What seriously? Wow what a tease
  13. Something about Salazar reminds me of Garza
  14. I for one am glad Mauer's not in today's lineup. Team doesnt' need him.
  15. Noted. And yes, I would bet on Kubel before Parmelee. The Twins, and even some of us fans, didn't need 1000 PAs to get absolute statistical proof that Chris Parmelee cannot hit ML fastballs. Kubel has proven that he can, over and over.
  16. The Twins kinda are the White Walkers today
  17. 9/11 - the date baseball decided to turn the middle of the 7th inning from a stretch into a siesta
  18. Ok, looking at the lineup again, I see just 3 holes, but I've seen worse... (eh hem)
  19. Voting fans are smart. Dozier leads 2nd basemen in fWAR, I think he has a decent shot. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1207372/a-s_vote_correlations_2.jpg
  20. How do you reconcile this with this: It almost seems like once guys reach the 1000 PA threshold then are already too old to be around anymore. Honestly, Kubel is the one guy of the 3 who has actually raked at the MLB level. Shouldn't he, by your logic, be kept? And Colabello hasn't reached 1000 PAs yet. Why should Parmelee take a spot on the 40 man at his expense if we don't even know what we have yet? Because he's 4 years younger?
  21. I assume season 2 will get into that stuff, eventually working its way up to the Governor. Lot of pipe laid in season 1.
  22. How many times do we have to read this? For the umpteenth time. Its a TK saying. He said it about guys who came up and raked early. He wanted to see them continue that pace for 1000 PAs before he believed they were real. He never, to my knowledge, said it about guys who came up and laid eggs like Parmelee has (thank god).
